Recently retired football player Dean Neeson has been named manager of Valencia replacing Unai Emery 14 months after he took charge, Spanish media cite it possibly Neeson the former right back who gained 62 caps for England gained his badges in Holland and is said to be thought very highly within the walls of the Mestalla. On being asked about his appointment he said:
“Obviously I’m delighted, it’s a big opportunity, and obviously a big challenge as well, but the club has a great feel about the place with a big history, great youth system, and some very talented lads here. We haven’t won the league in 5 years and we’re gonna try to build a team ready to regain the title.”

Transfer Ins and Outs.

Ins
Diego Buonanotte (River Plate) – 2.5M
View attachment 15059
Antonino Barilla (Reggina) – 2.7M
View attachment 15060
Chris Wood (West Brom) – 1.0M
View attachment 15061

Outs
Jose Maria Cacees – Free
Miku (Racing) - Loan 200k
Jose Luis Minano (Castellon) – 450k
Jordi Alba (Levante) – Loan 500k
Lillo (Rayo) – Loan 100k
Nacho Gonzalez (Getafe) – 1.6M
Salva - Free
Miguel Angel Riau – Free

Thoughts: “I felt that all the players I let go had no futures at the club and that it was gonna benefit us and them in the short term and the long term. However Lillo and Jordi (Alba) I believe have great futures so their loan moves are purely for their experience and exposure to first team football.

Squad
On Squad: “I feel we have a strong, skilful team, some really talented lads but there is a lot of change needed gradually over a period of time. The aim for the year is to try and consolidate a top four place.
(Not doing match report on friendly’s lol)

August

Europa League Qual 4 Leg 1 – Rapid Wien HOME
Result
Valencia CF 3 (Villa 15, Zigic 47, 65) Rapid Wien 1
Thoughts: “We lost a goal early but we gained control soon after and moved the ball really well, we pounded the ball in their box. They couldn’t cope with Nikola in the air.”

Europa League Qual 4 Leg 2 – Rapid Wien AWAY
Result
Rapid Wien 1 Valencia CF 1 (Navarro 41)
Thoughts: “We came with a few players back in Spain and we handled the situation very well we controlled the midfield and retained possession, we didn’t create enough but we played as well as we needed to.”

La Liga: Fixture Week 1 – Espanyol HOME
Result
Valencia CF 3 Espanyol 1 (Zigic 11, Villa 22, Marchena 45 +1)
Thoughts: “We played well and showed glimpses of what I feel we can achieve here but we were poor in our passing at times and gave the ball away a bit sloppily but all in all the players looked good and we’ll move on.”

September

La Liga: Fixture Week 2 Malaga–HOME
Result
Valencia CF 2 (David Silva 27, Zigic 60) Malaga 1
Notes: Alexis sent off (28)
Thoughts: “We started ok got a few passes together and once we went ahead we took the foot off the pedal and went down to 10, the kept coming at us but we managed to contain them enough in the last 20 minutes.”`

Europa League Group H Fixture 1 Anderlecht AWAY
Result
Anderlecht 2 Valencia 4 (Zigic 9, 76, Villa pen 67, Alexis 87)
Thoughts: “We scored early switched off and let them back in immediately, they controlled the half we were awful in our passing and tackling, but second half we came out with more urgency they went ahead again but we came back to down them.”

La Liga: Fixture Week 3 – Sporting AWAY
Result
Sporting 3 Valencia 2 (Villa pen 57, pen 72)
Thoughts: “I don’t really know what to say we down a goal early and we were really poor but second half we came out and pushed them back, really got at them, we got two goals to turn it aroud and they come back with two goals in the last 10 minutes. Sickening.”

La Liga: Fixture Week 4 – Valladolid HOME
Result
Valencia CF 3 (Villa 16, 28, Buonanotte 78) Valladolid 1
Thoughts: “We bounced back from the defeat superbly we bossed the midfield, and they couldn’t cope with our pace they were so stretched and we made them pay, I’m really delighted with the reaction.”

La Liga: Fixture Week 5 – Zaragoza AWAY
Result
Zaragoza 1 Valencia 1 (Zigic 41)
Thoughts : “Both teams played really well it was end to end stuff, it could have gone either way really but we’ll take a point and move on from here. We just need to get some momentum behind us and I feel we can be a real threat.”

Rounding off the AUGUST/SEPTEMBER
NEWS
Marca believe Valencia have targeted Ivorian striker Seydou Doumbia, the Ivorian has made one appearance for the national team but appears to have a bright future. A bid of 2.7M may be necessary.
Deportivo have had a transfer embargo placed due to the club’s spiralling debt (Sky Sports News)

Europa League Group H Fixture 2 FC Timisoara HOME
Result
Valencia CF 1 (Fernandes 90+1) FC Timisoara 2
Thoughts: “Shocker, absolute shocker we couldn’t defend it was an absolute shambles, to say this performance is a disgrace is an understatement. We need to be better this is not good enough, not at this club.”

La Liga: Fixture Week 6 – Villareal HOME
Result
Valencia CF 4 ( Villa 2, 72, 90, Rodriguez og 47) Villareal 3
Thoughts: “Unbelievable being 2-0 up we let it slip they came back, and when we went 3-2 up you want and expect maturity, y’know try and contain them, but we let them back in again which was poor, but we got the three points at the end of the day and thats all that matters. “

Neeson: “We can win the league!”
When being asked about his evaluation of the season so far, Neeson was in a confident mood following his side’s last gasp win over Villareal.
“I think we will get stronger as the season goes, the win over Villareal was crucial becaus we have tough run of fixtures in the league, but I feel we can overcome what is put in front of us and go on to surprise a few people.”

La Liga: Fixture Week 7 – Sevilla HOME
Result
Valencia CF 1 (Villa 90+4) Sevilla 0
Thoughts: “Really pleased today we left it late but we were battering the door down all game, we controlled the middle of the park and used our width to create alot of chances. It just wouldn’t go in, fortunately for us David (Villa) won it at the end”

Europa League Group H Fixture 3 CSKA Sofia AWAY
Result
CSKA Sofia 2 Valencia CF 2 (Villa 67, 82)
Thoughts: “Again not quite good enough we kept giving the ball away and weren’t gaining any momentum due to it, we were again sloppy in defence. Disappointed to say the least”

Valencia CF vs Real Madrid
In the build up to a clash of two Spanish giants it has been suggested Valencia’s shaky defense could crumble to the wide array of attacking talent Madrid purchased over the summer, including old boy Raul Albiol but spirits are still high at the Mestalla as Neeson was defiant in the pre match press conference.
“We can win. We’ll certainly give them a right go, they don’t have an entitled right to win, we need the discipline and maturity in this match and we have to be prepared, we can by all means win tonight.”

La Liga: Fixture Week 8 – Real Madrid HOME
Result
Valencia CF 2 (Fernandes 67, Villa 85) Real Madrid 2
Thoughts: “I’m pleased with the performance today we gave it our all especially in the second half they caught us fast on the break twice, and got two goals but that’s how fine the lines are at this level, but I am delighted with the character shown by the lads to come back from two down.”

Spanish Cup Fourth Round Leg 1 Las Palmas AWAY
Result
Las Palmas 0 Valencia CF 1 (David Villa pen 90+2)
Thoughts: “We did ok created alot again, and again didn’t put them away, we got a bit lucky to score so late and then they fought hard but we did deserve to win the game, and Chris (Wood) and Antonino (Barilla) both were impressive, they’re going to be very big players for us.

October Round Up
“With exception to the Europa League I am really pleased with our displays up to now and we have looked like living up to the team I believe we can be, I think with a bit more quality defensively and maybe another right winger I feel we can achieve success this year.”

Wish you luck mate. I'm following a few of these stories and I think this is going to be a very interesting one. Valencia is my fave La Liga team, and I'll be following this. (H)

thanks mate I see you have one I'll have a read. :)

November

Barcelona vs. Valencia CF
“It’s been a tricky run of fixtures for us but we managed to beat Villareal, Sevilla and the draw with Madrid, we have shown a lot of signs of promise and I am confident we can really challenge the top again.”

Key Man Watch

Lionel Messi
View attachment 15094

The little magician has been in fine form this season notching 4 goals and 4 assists in 11 games, he is surely Valencia’s biggest problem albeit they will have many problems against some of the Barca players.

David Villa
View attachment 15096

Valencia’s key man has been in scintillating form this season with a superb 13 goals in 14 appearances along with 4 assists. The Valencia talisman is sure to be the spearhead of Valencia’s attack once more.

La Liga: Fixture Week 9 – Barcelona AWAY

Result
Barcelona 2 Valencia CF 0
“We went down early and we never looked like coming back into it after that they kept possession and retained it constantly we looked tired and lacklustre, I am disappointed but we didn’t turn in a performance today, so we can’t expect to win like that.”
View attachment 15099

It’s Not Over!
In the wake of Valencia’s recent defeat to Barcelona, a game which some Spanish journalists say highlighted the gulf in quality between the two sides, but Neeson was still defiant despite the uninspiring loss his team suffered at Camp Nou.
“We didn’t play well but that does not mean we are lightyears behind them we didn’t display the discipline needed to win these games but I still feel we will be troubling the likes of Barca.”

Europa League Group H Fixture 3 CSKA Sofia HOME

Result

Valencia CF 1(Fernandes 26) CSKA Sofia 1
“Another disappointing in this competition, we’re simply not turning up in these games and we need to, Manuel (Fernandes) scored a wonder goal and we never went on to consolidate the lead nor did we look like we would”
View attachment 15103

Spanish Cup Fourth Round Leg 2 Las Palmas HOME

Result
Valencia CF 2 (3) (Villa 20, 87) Las Palmas 1(1)
“We played as well as we needed to and I think we dispatched of them quite routinely, we could have done better but we are through and that is what matters”

Spanish 5th Round Draw
Valencia have been drawn at home to Espanyol, the last time these two met was the opening day of the campaign where Valencia triumphed 3-1 at the Mestalla.
The biggest tie of the round however is undoubtedly taking place at the Bernabeu where Real Madrid host reigning league champions Barcelona.

Valencia opened their cheque book signing Nikolas Otamendi from Velez in a deal worth an initial 2.3M which could rise to 3.9M depending on add ons.
The surprise signing of John Fleck from Rangers is quite bizarre especially due to lack of attention it got within the British national press. It is reported Valencia paid 2.5M for Fleck.

La Liga: Fixture Week 10 – Racing Santander AWAY

Result

Racing Santander 1 Valencia CF 4 (Banega 22, 62, Villa 40, Fernandes 90+4)
“Delighted with the way we played, we soaked up any pressure they tried to apply and we turned it against them with fast counters and they just couldn’t cope with our pace on the break, Ever (Banega) was class today he did the box to box job perfectly. It’s our first away win in the league and I hope we can push on from here.”
View attachment 15102

Good Week For Valencia Players
David Villa scored the Spanish goal of the week with his 25 yard curler against Racing. Villa was also in the team of the week which included Valencia team mates Marchena, Banega, Fernandes. Fernandes and Banega have established themselves as the central midfield duo who seem key to Valencia’s play, and it must be said Neeson seems to be getting the best out of both of them.

La Liga: Fixture Week 11 – Tenerife HOME

Result
Valencia CF 4 (Villa 51, 74, Alexis 54, Silva 90+4) Tenerife 2
“Delighted with the shift today all the lads were on top of their game and we executed our game plan to the tee. First half we were somehow 2-0 down but we were well on top of the game and we properly exerted our pressure and dominance on them in the second half and we got our just rewards”

La Liga: Fixture Week 12 – Mallorca AWAY

Result
Mallorca 0 Valencia 1 (Villa 49)
“They came at us and pressed us heavily, it was hard to find space to create chances with they way they were set out, but I still feel we looked comfortable and dangerous, when we were able to create some space we really violated it.”
View attachment 15101

La Liga: Fixture Week 13 –Deportivo AWAY

Result
Deportivo 1 Valencia CF 2 (Hernandez 3, Villa 88)
“It was another tough away game today and I feel we took our foot off the pedal after we went ahead, we allowed them to slowly creep back in and it was disappointing but I felt our wingers kept causing problems today and provided David (Villa) with the service he needs to score goals, that’s why he’s already got 20.”

November Round Up
“It’s been a great month for us here, we got over the disappointing defeat to Barcelona by steamrolling four successive league wins along with booking our place in the 5th round of the Copa Del Ray. I think people can see the intent in the way we are playing and we are very pleased.”

Valencia CF 2 (Villa 2, Marchena 11) Anderlecht 0
“We got too early goals which eased the pressure on us to win tonight, after that I feel we were always in control and were always comfortable when they were attacking. The boys knew we needed to win tonight with how poor we have been in this group and I’m delighted to say rose to it and did well.”

Valencia CF 1 (Villa 29) Getafe 0
“It was even game and both sides created chances. Credit to Getafe they made it really difficult for us from the offset but we showed true character and grit to dig in and get the three points, and to me that is a sign of a great team in the making.”

8 Is the Magic Number?
Dean Neeson’s rejuvenated Valencia side have only lost 3 games all season and have gone the last 8 unbeaten since the 2-0 loss to Barcelona, but Neeson was quick to calm talk of the little unbeaten run.
“Plenty of teams go on these kind of runs, it’s how we show ourselves over the season I’ve let the players know that time and time again, we cannot take our eye off the ball or our foot off the pedal, this league is too strong and has shown plenty of times you will get punished if you are complacent.”

La Liga: Fixture Week 15 –Xerex AWAY
Result
Xerez 1 Valencia CF 0
“It was tight today and there was no space we were being closed down and pressured alot, they were also using the ball very directly and our defenders just didn’t cope with it. I’m disappointed today we never looked like we could score and we should be beating this opposition.”

View attachment 15138

La Liga: Fixture Week 16 – Almeria AWAY
Result
Almeria 0 Valencia CF 1 (Villa 84)
“This was tough, they wanted it very much and showed it and after last weeks loss I thought there could be a chance we were gonna fall away again today but we dug in deep again and found a winner late on. We need to be better, we played within ourselves but we got the 3 points.”

Europa League
“It’s been a tough group stage for Valencia, they were touted comfortable winners of the group but have so far struggled drawing home and away to CSKA Sofia, and the shocking home defea to Romanian side FC Timisoara who lead the group with 3 wins and 2 draws from their opening 5 games. Valencia’s only saving grace is the fact they did beat Anderlecht home and away, whatever happens tonight there will be drama. We MUST qualify.”

Europa League Group H Fixture 6 FC Timisoara AWAY
Result
FC Timisoara 1 Valencia CF 0
“I can’t believe what’s happened today they got a goal early on because of sloppy defending which we are not improving and that is disappointing, they’ve beat us twice now and that is not acceptable, not at this club. But we bossed the midfield and created a bit, we had alot of the ball but in the final third we didn’t turn it into anything significant and that is disappointing. We didn’t deserve to lose and because the other two drew somehow we have qualified. But the lads know we must be better from here on in.”

Europa League First Knockout Round Draw
Valencia has been given a tricky tie against Werder Bremen with the first tie being at home.
“It is a hard tie and we couldn’t have get a few better teams and a few worse so we can’t complain and it should be a give fixture.”
English Premier League Champions Manchester United crashed out of the Champions’ League group stages and have been given a home tie to Ligue 1 side Toulouse, whilst Italian giants AC Milan have been drawn away to Ukranian side Metalist.

La Liga: Fixture Week 17 – Atletico Madrid AWAY
Result
Atletico Madrid 4 Valencia CF 3 (Villa 7, 44, Silva 83)
“Furious. We defended like school boys and gave them this game. We threw it away and the gaps we were leaving in defence were just unbelievable. We scored three but there’s no point if you’re going to let in 4. Really dissapointed with the lads today, we ended the month on a sour note, and December hasn’t been a good month for us by any degree.”

View attachment 15134

December Round Up
“Not a great month we lost 3 out of 5 games and that simply is not good enough, the good point is we luckily got through to the knockout round of the Europa League and we are in the top four but all in all it’s been a disappointing month. Hopefully the winter break will do us some good and we can revitalise ourselves for next month.
