In a game which lacked much real entertainment, Watford reached the 3rd round after beating Brentford 3-0 at home after a brace from Tom Cleverley and a goal from loan striker Jonathan Cristaldo. Brentford never really had much chance in this game, and deserved to go out in all honesty.
Andy Scott said:
Watford were the better side here and deserved what they got which was a 3-0 win, so well done to them and I was a bit disappointed with our effort throughout the game, we could of certainly done more.
Max King said:
I'm pleased we haven't been part of a 'cup shock' as it sometimes gets morale down quite a bit between the lads and can affect your season badly, so it's good to see no complacency is creeping in.
United grab late winner to beat Watford
Big potential - Macheda's two goals vs Watford helped United to 3 points at Old Trafford
Watford were extremely close to a draw vs Manchester United at Old Trafford, but a late winner from Zoran Tosic spoiled the fun for Watford. After Macheda put United 1-0 up in the 7th minute, things didn't look great for Watford but a penalty from Jure Travner and an amazing free kick from Arvydas Novikovas gave Watford an amazing 2-1 lead at half time to shock Old Trafford and people watching around the world.
United turned on the style after half time and in the 67th minute finally equalised with Macheda grabbing his 2nd of the game in a very impressive performance from the Italian. Then with just 5 minutes to go, Zoran Tosic won the game for United with a brilliant volley on his left foot to put United in the driving seat and also gave them all 3 points.
Sir Alex Ferguson said:
Gotta' give Watford credit, it was one of the most tense half time team talks we've had in a long time and they really made us hot under the collar, but I'm delighted we've got the win in the end but kuedos to Watford.
Max King said:
I'm delighted with the effort and I firmly believe on another day we could of won this. Great performance and we're unlucky to come away with nothing.
Watford able to tame the Tigers
Distraught - Myhill hangs his head in shame as he costs his team 3 points with own goal
In a massive game which could determine who was relegated, Watford came out with all 3 points. The first goal of the game was certainly a freak accident, when Charlie Austin went to lob 'keeper Boaz Myhill, the ball hit the bar and then rebounded into Myhill's face and then into the goal to make it 1-0 and Hull lost all confidence after this incident.
It was 1-0 at half time, and the second half wasn't really entertaining at all with both sides cancelling each other out time after time, and it was a penalty from Danny Graham that settled things in the 74th minute to make it 2-0 Watford in a massive win for Max King's side.
Phil Brown said:
I'm more than disappointed, I'm depressed.
Max King said:
I expect both me and Phil Brown will be in two completely different moods after this game which is understandable, as I really think we dominated them but it was a poor game of football and we probably could of got the ball down more and tried to play it about more, but the pitch was a bit damp today because of the bad weather but at the end of the day we played well and got the win so I'm delighted.
I'm really sorry there isn't much detail this update and no player of the month etc, but I had to rush through to get the update done as I'm going home soon and this was the only option if I wanted to do an update for you lads, deeply sorry. ![Frown :( :(](https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f641.png)
