2 New Loanees Arrive

Ball Makes Use Of Colchester Link

Manager Chris Ball has taken advantage of the club's affiliation with League Two side Colchester United, bringing in two players from the club on loan until the end of the season.

19 year olds Louis Dunne and Eoin McKeown are both products of the Colchester youth system and both are yet to make a competitive appearance in senior football, but Ball has seen enough to convince him that they can add value to the wings campaign this year.

Louis Dunne is an Irish midfielder, who can play down the middle or left side. He is noted for his determined attitude and has a good first touch and passing ability. McKeown is an English striker with good finishing and off the ball movement. He will provide much needed cover up top after the recent injury to Flo Bojaj.

Ball said he was delighted to have the youngsters on board and hopes they prove to be every bit as good as he thinks they will be. Wings fans may get their first look at the youngsters in Saturday's league fixture away at Poole.

A Win & A Loss for Welling

Welling's Unbeaten Run Ends At Poole

Welling's run of 12 games unbeaten in all competitions came to an end at Poole Town in the National League South. However, they were able to follow up the disappointment with a comfortable victory against playoff hopefuls Hampton & Richmond Borough. It leaves the Wings 6th in the division, but now 8 points off top spot. At the bottom end of the table, there are no less than 8 teams becoming embroiled in a battle against relegation as only 6 points separate the teams in 15th to 22nd.

Welling travelled away to Poole Town this afternoon for a game they were heavily expected to win, with Town finding themselves stuck firmly in the relegation places.

But it was the home side that started the game the better and took a surprise early lead on the 10 minute mark when centre back Alfie Kilgour headed home the first senior goal of his career.

Welling looked awful and it took 25 minutes for them to register their first shot on goal, a wayward effort from winger Joseph-Dubois.

Welling manager Chris Ball was becoming increasingly animated on the sidelines with his team struggling to get any sort of foothold on the game.

The teams came out for the 2nd half, with Ball making a couple of changes and the wings seemed to have abandoned their 5-2-3 wide formation, for a narrower 3-5-2.

The tactical change looked a positive one and it projected on the pitch as Welling completely dominated the entire second half. With 63% possession in the 2nd half, they mustered up 11 shots on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net and went down to a disappointing defeat.

Chris Ball said after the game "That first half performance was by far the worst we've played all season".

Welling followed up their disappointing result against Poole Town with an away game at 5th placed Hampton & Richmond Borough. Welling had kicked off the season against Borough and fallen to a 2-1 home defeat.

Both sides made a steady start to this one, but the first real chance fell to Welling on 17 minutes. Chritian Nanetti getting down the right wing, crossing across the face of goal where Tom Richards was waiting to tap in to an open net and put the wings 1-0 up.

Hampton & Richmond wern't behind for too long though as they scored themselves only 4 minutes later. Midfielder Max Kretzschmar with a lovely effort from 23 yards curled into the top corner.

But it wasn't long before the wings were back in front again. Louis Dunne bagging his first assist for the club, poking a cheeky little through ball into the path of Durojaiye who hit a hard shot past the Borough goalie.

Borough had a great opportunity to level the scores again late in the half, but striker Matthew Gillam fired his shot wide when confronted by Welling goalkeeper Perntreou after he was plaed through one on one.

That wasn't the final piece of action from the 1st half though. United floated in a free kick from deep in the 3rd minute of stoppage time, Ian Gayle jumped for the ball but his shirt was being vigorously pulled by Borough centre back Alex Laird and the referee awarded the penalty. Olumide Durojaiye had been pretty safe from the spot this season and today was no different as he made no mistake in making it 3-1 to the wings.

Welling started the second half with a 4th goal, Durojaiye completing his hat trick with another assist from new man Louis Dunne, giving the wings a 3 goal cushion and seemingly putting the game beyond Borough.

Hampton & Richmond looked dejected after that goal and struggled to string two passes together for the remainder of the game and offered no threat to Welling who seemed happy to see out the rest of the game and recorded a comfortable 4-1 victory.

Adekunle Signs New Deal

New Contract For Jordan Adekunle

Left winger Jordan Adekunle has signed a new 1 year deal with the club.

Adekunle was signed at the start of the season by manager Chris Ball and has now had his stay extended after some fine performances this year.

Adekunle has appeared in 17 games across all competitions and chipped in with 3 goals and 6 assists so far. He has 32 dribbles to his name in those games and with his lightning pace is a constant threat going forward.

Chris Ball said "I'm happy to tie Jordan up for another season. He's a good lad with the right attitude. He works hard in training and that is being transferred onto the pitch with some good performances for us this year. He fully deserves this deal and I look forward to seeing him continue improving".

Welling Through To 3rd Round of FA Trophy

Havant & Waterlooville travelled to Welling for their FA Trophy 2nd round clash on a cold Tuesday evening. The two sides had shared a point a month ago in the league after drawing 1-1, but neither side would be looking for a draw and an unnecessary replay tonight.

Welling started the game passing the ball around really well and recorded 76% possession in the opening 15 minutes. They nearly made it count too when Christian Nanetti was sent through one on one with the goalkeeper only to hit his shot over the bar.

On 19 minutes, Welling nearly took the lead again when Louis Dunne hit a powerful shot at goal which beat keeper Jacob Marsden only to be cleared off the line by Addison Garnett.

Come the 31st minute and the home side were in front. Nanetti cutting in from the right before crossing for the in form Durojaiye to volley a nice effort past Marsden and into the back of the net. A fantastic strike for 1-0.

Just before half time, Welling increased their lead to 2. Nanetti curling a corner into the box for Kyle Clinton to rise above the Waterlooville defence and direct his powerful header into the top corner.

Welling picked up the 2nd half where the left off the 1st and came so close to scoring a 3rd when Ben Jefford's long range effort cracked against the post before bouncing out.

Havant & Waterlooville had struggled all evening and only managed 3 shots on goal, so it was no surprise to see the away fans, all 51 of them, leaving with 5 minutes still remaining.

It finished 2-0 and Welling progress to the next round. A really good performance here tonight in a game they dominated from start to finish. Christian Nanetti stood out as the best performer in a whole team that played well.

Welling Keeper Out

Welling Lose Keeper For Up To 7 Weeks

Goalkeeper Kleton Perntreou will be out for up to 7 weeks after suffering a broken finger in the National League South game against Truro City.

Perntreou was attempting to catch the ball when the incident occured and will now spend the next few weeks seeing a specialist.

Manager Chris Ball will be keen to get his first choice keeper back to action as soon as possible. Perntreou has been ever present this year for Welling, playing in every single game for the wings.

Ball is likely to be on the hunt for a new keeper to come in to provide cover for the injured Perntreou and it remains to be seen who he turns to.
