Brief Background History
Northern Ireland has always been a football nation. With legends such as Gerry Armstrong, Pat Jennings and of course the
world renowned, arguably the best footballer of his generation, George Best coming from here obviously shows the country has the potential to be a strong footballing nation.
Despite our proud footballing tradition, we have yet to replicate the World Cup squad of '82. After that the national team began to drop in quality and soon became one of the weakest footballing nations out there.
Even with Lawrie Sanchez' superb management of the nation from 2004 onwards, including the unforgetful 1-0 victory over England and the 3-2 victory over Spain, we have always fallen short at the final hurdle during qualification for major tournaments.
Northern Irish fans have always been at the heart of the team and are always regarded as the 12th member of the squad, anytime Northern Ireland have a fixture at Windsor Park you can be sure as **** the stadium will be packed out.
Now onto the story....





Nigel Worthington Resigns

The nation is in shock after hearing of Nigel Worthington's resignation as Northern Irish manager. Nigel has refused to speak to any press about it and there is speculation that it is a matter of his wages between himself and the IFA (Irish Football Association). The search for a new manger begins...



(Just curious if there is anybody who would like to follow my story. Would like to see before i decide to continue any further. No point in starting it if no one is interested. :))




 
I'll be following mate :) i was going to start a northern ireland story myself :P wasnt sure on wether national team or the mighty blues was a better idea so i binned the idea :P Good Luck :D

New Northern Irish Manager Unveiled
Northern Irish football fans are once again in shock after the IFA's decision to place a seemingly unknown young manager in charge. The IFA reveled that ex-semi professional footballer, Andy Derby would take charge at Windor Park and that they have the utmost faith that he can succeed in this role.

During a press conference, Derby had this to say:
To start my managerial career with my home country is an honor and I will do my utmost to get us qualified for the World Cup in South Africa. We are in a strong position in our group and we should be able to secure 2nd place with a good chain of results in these next upcoming weeks.

This will be tough, I dought you'll finish second, but you might win the qualifiers. (al long as Henry's not playing) And yes I know your Northen Ireland. I'm just saying!
 
Looking Good so far. Are you going to be using younger players for a brighter future, or older player who tbh are not much better?
 
If only you had joined this site about a couple of months ago then you would understand why Aannddyy asked the question :D
 
Aaron Hughes remains as Captain
Despite several rumors, Aaron Hughes remains as captain of the Northern Ireland squad while the vice captaincy was given to Man. Utd defender Johnny Evans.

Aaron is a born leader and rightly deserves to keep his role as captain. I have decided to give Johnny Evans the role of vice-captain as I feel his first team experience in the Premier League will help some of the lads who might struggle when playing the larger teams.

Northern Ireland's first game will be a friendly against Israel in a couple of weeks time which Derby will probably use this game to experiment with the squad. Derby is set to announce his 26 man squad for this upcoming fixture shortly.
 
Israel Squad Announced

With some surprises in the squad choice, it seems that Derby is trying out some of the youngsters such as Corry Evans and Craig Cathcart.

Def: Aaron Hughes, George McCartney, Johnny Evans, Brian McLean, Craig Cathcart, Tony Capaldi, Corry Evans, Lee Hodson

Derby commented on his selection this afternoon:

Israel scrape Victory

Not the best start I had hoped for. We dominated in this match and had a lot of chances to pull in front but we didn't take them. We gave away a silly penalty and we went downhill from there. The fans are undoubtedly unhappy about this but I promise we will have a much stronger performance for our qualifying match against Poland next week.
