What approach suits my team / I need a Tactic

Looking for a really good defensive tactic to use with Rangers for games against the bigger teams to hopefully get me qualification to the Champs League knockout phase.

I currently use Kofloks Goals Galore and it works really well but i need a second tactic to use when i am the underdog. I have looked in this section but i am not sure which tactics are defensively set up.

Here is my 3rd season squad

Want to play a possetion 4-2-4 not sure what it's called but normal 4-4-2 with AML/AMR with canales and ramsey as my main CM's. heres screenies of my regens who are good enough for my first team

Sorry my friend but this way I don' t think you can play possession football. In order to keep possession you have to be able to get the ball back when you lose it. Canales and Ramsey cannot do that. If you want to stick to that formation you could probably try to use Fellaini in one of the CM positions (maybe as a ball winning midfielder) but I 'm not sure how much could that help. In my opinion, in order to play possession you need a real dog in the midfield, a true DM and CMs more balanced between attacking and defensive duties than Canales. When you play possession football it is really helpful one of your CMs to "run with the ball often" so when you gain possession deep in your half he will carry it and give time to your team to get higher up.

I hope I helped you and remember that the football is a game that only you know how you want your team. I just said an opinion.
Good luck!

i have just entered my last six games of the season unbeaten. ive now got to play lyon, liverpool, lyon(2nd leg), chelsea, man city. i have gone over 100 league games unbeaten but have had problems winning recently- 1-1 with man u, 1-1 with spurs, 1-1 with wolves. i play 4-3-3 like barca and cant pick up a win anywhere now, no matter how much i change tactics

It probably has to do with the way you are using your players (defense, support or attack duties,), the specific instructions you give them (cut inside, move into channels) or the general instructions you give the team (passing style, width). Formation is useless if your players don' t have the right roles in the game. I' m using the same formation with Panathinaikos and just in 2012 I got my first champions league (I had to be very lucky as well). But given your roster you should score like ****.

I am Sheff Wednesday in 2014 and I am languishing in the championship, I have finished mid table for the last 2 seasons and my form has been so incosistent!

I am tried the jorge_jesus style tactic which worked for a while but I just don't score enough goals at the moment!

Here is my team...

Nicky Weaver - GK
Stephen Darby / Greg Halford - WBR
Anton Ferdinand / Maximiliano Pellegrino - DCL
Mark Beevers / Daniel Alaya - DCR
Greg Cunnigham / Leandro Grimi - WBL
Keith Southern / Ebsen Hansen - DMC
Jack Collinson / Keith Fahey / Jermaine Pennant / Jerome Thomas - MR / AMR
Mateo Kovačić / Eric / Fabián Canobbio - AMC
Kazenga LuaLua / Wellington Silva (Loan) - AML
Shane Long / Cedric Bakambu (Loan) - STR
Connor Wickham (Loan) / Raul Tamudo - STR

Any advice much appreciated!

i think better than the otehr high scoring tactic you've tried (i'm a little bit biased) but have a look at the comment section people love it

I have just started a season with Napoli and am in need of a formation and a tactic to compensate with my new signings...
I have signed Hazard on loan. Gameiro, Kadlec(for the future) and Badelj.
Have no idea what tactic to use. But something to work with two upfront (Cavani, Lavezzi) and with Hamsik and Hazard being my main midfielders.
I already have Mattis goal machine but dont think that would work as only 1 upfront, otherwise that seems a good tactic for my wingbacks.

Thanks in advance!

For Football Manager 2011

In previous editions, this thread, or as it was named then, "What Tactic should i use?", was heavily unbalanced regarding users asking for help and users actually helping out. This year, we hope that the forum will flourish with discussion threads as how to approach the game, how to play a certain player or how to best utilize the fact that one only have Strong but really slow attackers.

But before we all have played the game long enough to get to know the current match engine and have sen just how much - or little - that the tactics really matter - please use this thread to ask for hints about what tactic suit your specific team. As always, the more information you provide, the better help you will get.

The absolute minimum information needed for anyone to post is the following

- Team
- Players ( screenshot)
- Season ( the current or have you alreadygot to 2013? )

And remember, the more we all help out in this thread, the forum not only gets cleaner from constant new threads asking for help, but also we get the interest and discussion going. As soon as I see a interesting discussion going on in here, I will move those posts into a separate thread so the topic stays alive and can get more indepth.

Cheers
im playing with blackpool but can not beat top teams

Ok, so I'm in my 2nd Season with Aston Villa after finishing 7th and winning the League Cup against Everton without any major signings apart from Andy Carroll, Charlie Adam and Alan Hutton plus afew on the cheap including Mahmadou Diarra (who is available on the cheap every year anyway), Michael Johnson, Axel Witsel and David Bentley. Board is in the early process of updating the youth facilities and stadium capacity. Still for the life of me I can't find a consistent approach for my team, switching between the 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1 Deep and 4-1-3-2.

Any ideas on formations? View attachment 173235 Thanks.

Hi guys

I decided to play with Fiorentina but unfortunately there are only two strikers so I have to find some tactic with only one striker

I am playing a high defensive line with the offside trap on. My two full backs are on support duty, whilst my centre backs have a defend duty ( central defender and ball playing defender). How would you advise i use tight marking here? Should the full backs have tight marking and the cb's without, or should they all not have tight marking? please help if you can :)

thanks

Can any1 help me please?

I want Akinfenwa to be a target man (of course)

Do you want a tactic made for you and you and your players, get a tactic recommended or an general approach recommended ?. If you provide some more information, I am sure you will get help but in my experience just writing "Help", rarely gets you any.

Cheers

I want a tactic and general approach recommended. I also have a dilemma with my strikers, should I play with Akinfenwa, who is stronger, and a better finisher than Kandol, who is pacier, just as good as Akinfenwa on the head, but a worse finisher (Kandol has 11 finishing, Akinfenwa has 14)

Birmingham

I am in 2014 with Birmingham. We have progressed nearly every year in the league, however, near the end of the season, the team starts making dumb defensive errors and cannot finish which causes them to drop tons of points. We were first last season and then drew with both small and big teams. We were up 4-1 at half in the FA Cup quarter final and ended up blowing the lead, taking a 5-4 lead and blowing that and losing on penalties and finished 2nd in the league. This season, we have played 4 games and all were draws. We would take the lead only to blow it in the most idiotic circumstances at the end of the game. We played Man City, Stoke, Tottenham and Burnley and tied all of them with very little goals scored. I normally play a 4-4-2 control and it works really well for like 10 straight wins and then my team just falls asleep. My team is as follows:
GK- Ben Foster
Vincent Enyeama
RB- Kyle Walker
Micah Richards
LB- Yuri Zhirkov
Fabio
CB- Phillippe Mexes
Phil Jones
Dante
David Wheater
Roger Johnson
CDM- Nigel De Jong
Ognjen Vukojevic
CAM- Simon Vukcevic
Kaisuke Honda
Dario Conca
LM- Samir Nasri
Niko Kranjcar
RM- Georginio Wijnaldum
David Bentley
Sebastian Larsson
ST- Romelu Lukaku
Abel Hernandez
Djibril Cisse
Demba Ba
Landon Donovan

hey guys i play with a man city team and i got this squad and tactics, im new to this so please any advice would be appreciated

QPR - Need help with Tactics

I really need some help with my FM2011 game playing as Queens Park Rangers. In my first season, I got the team promoted through the Championship play-offs with a 4-2-2-2 tactic utalising two defensive midfielders (which included Aleandro Faurlin, until I sold him at the end of the season..) and two advanced wingers. Also using balanced philosophy and control starting strategy, deep defensive line, narrow width, normal pace.

In my second season (playing in the Premership) I can't get a win for love or money. I keep losing by at least 3 goals each match. I have tried tinkering with my tactics, asking members of staff advice and I'm getting nowhere.

Team:
GK - Paddy Kenny, Graeme Smith
DF - Chimbonda, K Gorkss, D Shittu, M Connolly, Vanden Borre, Clint Hill, Rob Edwards, Max Ehmer, L Zauri, Mulgrew, Q Fortune
MF - S Derry, M Rowlands, H Ephraim, David Templeton, J Mackie, Vaagan Moen, A Balanta, Josmar Zambrano (loan - Tenerife), Ilkay Gundogan (loan - Man City), Wendel (loan - Atletico Mineiro), Adel Taarabt
ST - Tommy Smith, D Chiumiento, Wiltord, Helguson, Benjani, K Mphela

Any help appreciated!!

I managed to get QPR promoted with it, Taarabt is solid in the trequarista position and is a similar tactic to what QPR play at the moment.

I need help with tactic for Man Utd to make Dzeko score.
I play either: 4-4-2 or 4-3-1-2 both with wingers, supporting wing backs, Rooney as a advanced attacker (8,46 average), then a deep lying midfielder and either a Trequarista or an attacking central midfielder.
- The last player is Dzeko who i have tried playing as a Complete attacker and as a Target man

I play with a high defensive line, wide, and fast - I press more, plays directly and with floating crosses and with Dzeko put as target man
It's his first season and i thought he maybe should get used to the tactic - but hes has played 14 games scoring 1 goal and making 5 assists and these was in the first 6-7 matches, his average is 7,36

My problem is not winning, my problem is that Dzeko doesn't score. Further more i might need a way to make the wingers crosses work?

So I'm in my first season with Chelsea, splurged a bit (as you will see from the team screen) and got some good young talent in. We began the season well, with a run of victories in all competitions, but lately I've been leaking goals and also scoring far fewer than before.

Team: Chelsea
Season: One (2010-2011)

I would like to know what changes, if any, I should make to my formation.

Also, if someone could suggest changes to or even tweak these tactics of mine, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Finally, I know this ain't the right thread, but could you suggest some good buys for the DR, MC, AMC and ST positions? I'm currently looking at van der Wiel, Richards, Sahin, Rodwell, Pastore, Kaka, Wilshere, Pato and Lavezzi. I'll probably be offloading Bosingwa, Benayoun, Arouca and Drogba, maybe even Ganso (Paulo Henrique) at the end of the season, if not in January.

Thanks in advance. :)

EDIT: I lost out to Man City in the chase for Sahin, but managed to get steal van der Wiel from under their noses instead. LOL At any rate, I've also managed to get in Moussa Sissoko for 15mil euros and tied up a future 30mil euro deal for Kaka, so now I've got the other players I needed. Also, Ganso, Drogba and Arouca have improved, so I might keep them provided they maintain their current form. Now all I need is to tweak my formation/tactics and I'm set. :)
