Its true, there's is general lack of quality full backs when they game starts. Most are either too expensive, too old to be worth buying, or very young and will need few years of playing.
I've had good degree of success with retraining the more pacey center backs into the position. Sure, it also takes a while but not 5 seasons.
They're usually very effective , in fact, they're usually better purely for defense purposes. Just don't expect most of them to succesfuly support the attack 50 times per match.
Bocchetti , Otamendi , Zapata, are the few that i can recommend. All are young, and already premier league quality when the game starts just need to be trained for new position. Otamendi in particular is class and worked for me as first team fullback even in Real.
