Hello everyone, been reading through a few of the current stories on the forum and it has motivated me to give it a go myself. Another reason I’ve decided to give a story a go is for motivational purposes. I have found it hard to stick to a save since FM13 has been released, but sharing it with you guys on the forum will definitely motivate me to keep it going! Anyways enough with the boring talk, time to get this story moving.

I’ve gone for Wigan, and I have no idea why. Maybe it’s the fact they have been stuck in the same situation for a good 5-6 years now (only just avoiding relegation) hopefully push them higher up the table and one day be pushing for European competition places. I have no target in mind, as you can most probably tell from the stories name. I’m just looking to play, and evaluate where I am, and what I can do from then on. Could find myself in a relegation battle….or maybe push for a top half finish. We’ll just have to wait and see.

I have played pre-season already, and have also finished all transfer activity at the club, unless someone comes in with an extraordinary offer of course.

Transfers In

- Ryan Donk – CB | £2.6 Million
- Wellington Nem – CAM | £3.2 Million
- Gelson Fernandes – CDM | £3.5 Million
- O. Hiljermark – CM | £1 Million
- Juan Albin – CAM | 3.1 Million
- S. Camara – RW | Loan
- R. Lemaitre – LB | Free
- N. Helenius – ST |3.6 Million

Overall I’d have to say I’m happy with the signings I have made. I wasn’t planning on bringing in this many players. But for the prices they were available at, I couldn’t turn them down. A few transfers have been spread over 24 months as well. Very excited about the prospect of Wellington Nem!

Transfers Out

- C. McManaman – ST | Loan to Preston
- M. Boselli – ST | Loan to Spurs
- J. McArthur – CM | 3.3 Million to Wolves
- Piscu – CB | 1.3 Million to Huddersfield
- F. Fryer – CM | Loan to Leeds
- R. Golbert – CB | Free to Luton
- A. Crusat – LW | 2.2 Million to Forest

Felt these players weren’t cutting it for Wigan, so decided to ship them off. Also receive 500k a month from Spurs for the loan of Boselli, which isn’t too shabby if you ask me.

Just had a look at our fixtures over the first couple of months, and I can honestly say I have never seen anyone have a tough first 10 games as we have! Looks like it could be a long season for us. I’m going to set a target of at least 10 points from the first 11 games. Think it’s safe to say I am not looking forward to September!

Cheers man appreciate it. Going to be a challenge thats for sure

awesome stuff mate, will definitely be following, I did 3 wigan saves on fm12 and only stayed up once, but with the great young signings you've made you look like you can do it. If you're still in september/october/earky november, why don't you throw a contract at Royston Drenthe? He has around 25k p/w wages but he'd be a great addition, as wigan don't have much pace in the team. But it's your story man, great so far KIU

August

West Brom 0 - 2 Wigan

Quite an even game but we took our chances very well. Great header from Ivan Ramis from a corner and a late goal from Camara sealed a great win for us.

Wigan 2-0 Fulham

Another 2-0 win for us. Got to say im surprised at how well we’ve started. Goals from McCarthy and once again Camara won us the game. Another pleasing aspect was another clean sheet.

Bristol City 1-3 Wigan (Capital One Cup 2nd Round)

Played a weakened team in this match, and we only just pulled through. Went 1 down early on but managed to ****** an equaliser late on to take the match to extra time. Extra time was fairly straight forward and our class showed as we took a two goal lead.

September

Wigan 2-1 Man City

Wow. When City took the lead early on with a great strike from Aguero, I was fearing the worst. But two goals in the second half from Ivan Ramis and Kone won us the game. Defended extremely well in this game… 3 games 3 wins. What a start.

Man Utd 4-0 Wigan

It was coming sooner rather than later. We gave away an early penalty and there was no coming back from that. United completely outplayed us…Van Persie and Gaitan grabbing both goals for United.

Wigan 1-4 Everton (Capital One Cup 3rd Round)

Funnily enough we took an early lead with Helenius grabbing a goal on his first start for The Lactics. But Everton scored 3 with-in 15 minutes and dominated from then on. Everton where sitting top of the table and have started the campaign amazingly, having sold Fellaini as well.

Wigan 1-3 Newcastle

Looks like our form is slipping drastically. Once again we were dominated from start to finish, a late consolation from Helenius helped make the score line look a little bit more respectable. But in all honesty we deserved to lose, really hoping we can win our next game against Newcastles rivals Sunderland, but The Stadium Of Light is a hard place to go that’s for sure.

So after 5 games, we are currently sitting 8th with 9 points. Al though the last 3 results of the month weren’t very convincing on our behalf, we have had a fantastic start to the season, could get even better if we manage to win our game in hand (It’s against Chelsea but you never know). I’ll leave you with the league table as it stands. Think the next couple of months are going to be very interesting for us. Cheers for checking my story out as well. Appreciate the comments etc!

I wish Maiga was doing as well on my story as he is on yours. Keep it up mate, loving this so far :D

Nice start. I will be interested to see how you develop Fraser Fyvie

October

Sunderland 0-3 Wigan

What a fantastic result. Considering we had lost 3 in a row in all competitions beforehand. We completely controlled the game from start to finish. Al though Sunderland are fighting for their lives I’m still chuffed with this result!

Wigan 0-1 Everton

Once again, Everton have beaten us at Home but this time in the Premier League. This time it was a lot closer as a contest and an early goal from Baines was just enough to nick the win for Moyes’ men, on to the next game.

Wigan 1-0 Spurs

Thanks to a goal keeping master class by Al Habsi, we managed to nick a 1-0 win over AVB’s boys. Al Habsi most certainly won us the match, and received a 9.6 rating for his performance. Very pleased with how well we have performed against the big teams this season.

Chelsea 4-0 Wigan

It seems that I either just nick the win, or get absolutely battered by the top teams, and the second definitely happened here. Al though two of their goals where penalties we fully deserved to lose. Chelsea have started slowly but wouldn’t be surprised if they’re pushing for the title come the end of the season.

Novemeber

Liverpool 1-1 Wigan

We were very unlucky not to walk out of Anfield with all 3 points. We took the lead through a Helenius goal, but once again gave away a penalty which Gerrard converted. Overall very pleasing result, Rodgers was sacked the day after leaving Liverpool in 14th place.

Arsenal 3-0 Wigan

Away from home against the top 4, we have been useless. To be fair I am managing Wigan, but in future I am definitely looking to make us more competitive when we travel to the bigger teams in the country. Arsenal are currently sitting top of the league and going well, so not too disheartened by this result.

Wigan 1-0 West Ham

We just managed to get the win in this one. In all honesty West Ham deserved something from the match, but Kone’s clinical finish late on won it for us.

Southampton 1-2 Wigan

Great result away from home. Adam Lallana gave his side the lead early on, but another goal from Kone made the score-line level at half time. It was a close second half, but substitute Beausejour scored a screamer with 9 minutes remaining to seal the win for The Latics. Really pleased that we have managed to win a few away games this early on in the season.

Wigan 0-0 Stoke

A really boring match. Both teams defended well and kept shutting each other out. Dissapointed we never managed to score whilst playing at Home, but we will move on to the next game and hopefully get the goals going again.

So at the end of November, we are sitting in 5th after playing 14 games. Im very happy and surprised with how this season has gone so far, only thing that can be improved on is the amount of goals we are scoring. We have only managed 15 goals this season but somehow are sitting in 5th, imagine where we could be if we scored more? Anyways I better not get too far ahead of myself, im managing Wigan after all. I’ll leave you with the league table.

lovely story. What tactics you playing as wigan dont have any out and out wide players.

good luck with this :)
i shall be following as i live in wigan and you are already doing great :D :P

i play with wingers, either
Beausejour, Albin or Wellington Nem (On the left) and rotate between Camara and Myiachi on the RW!

Cracking selection with Wigan. This has been keeping me sane at work, keep it goin!

yeah good luck hope u keep them up and u seem to be winning games battling the drop which is great cos it increases the gap i will be following from now

Sorry about the lack of updates, been sucked into the game a little too much! :D But anyways, I have played quite a bit and im well into the second half of the season. Here’s how its been….

Decemember

Swansea 1-0 Wigan

We were very unlucky not to get something out of this game, Swansea scored a late goal through Gary Monk. To be honest I was really ****** off after this game, as Wellington Nem missed an open goal with about 15 minutes to go. But oh well…Onto the next game.

Wigan 4-3 Reading

Wow what a game this was. This by far, has been the best match I have played on this seasons FM. It had everything, goals, penalties and overall great football. Every goal was a great one and neither keeper could of done much. Helenius got himself a hatrick as well, im content with how he has played this season, but I think a more experienced striker is needed as Kone isn’t scoring enough. But anyways 3 points in the bag…

QPR 1-0 Wigan

This was almost like a spitting image of the Swansea game. When I say we deserved something from the match, im not just saying that from a biased point of view (believe me lol). But Rangers scored a goal early on through Cisse, after that it was all Wigan…We hit the post/bar about 3 times and should have got something from it. This match just made it even clearer that a new striker was needed.

Wigan 1-6 Norwich

I don’t have a clue what happened here, but Norwich where amazing. I know there is no excuse when it comes to letting in 6 against a team like them, but we looked like we didn’t want it. I think the score was 4-1 at HT, which shows how poorly we performed. The score line didn’t flatter Norwich in the slightest. I let rip into my team to make sure no repeat of performances like this in the future, let’s hope it works

Wigan 2-2 Aston Villa

Pollit got his first start of the season, as Al Habsi was ruled out for 6 weeks due to an injury (can’t remember exactly why). Pollit managed to save 2 penalties in this game, but apart from that he was **** lol. Was at fault for both of Villa’s goals, I know he has been a loyal player to the club, but his contract is expiring at the end of the season, and I couldn’t be happier haha. Our form is very inconsistent at the moment…This needs to be addressed.

Wigan 3-2 West Brom

The score line makes this match look a lot closer than it really was. We played fantastically well and should have scored several more! A late goal from West Brom made the score look a little more respectable….But all in all a good win for us.

January

Wigan 0-2 Chelsea

Chelsea scored with 13 seconds on the clock. This took the stuffing out of us I think as we never really threatened throughout. Hazard added to the score line to make it a straight forward win for Chelsea. Interestingly we had 52% possession though. Just couldn’t do anything with it.

Stoke 1-0 Wigan (FA Cup 3rd Round)

One disappointment this season has been our cup runs (if you can call them that). Out in the 3rd round of both cups isn’t good enough. Stoke scored a real scrappy goal from a set-piece, but apart from that we looked comfortable; I need to get my team to take their chances more often. The amount of games we have thrown away this season is unbelievable…New striker please!

TRANSFER UPDATE

Ins

- Nathan Redmond – RW | £6.25 Million
- Marcus Berg – ST | Loan
- Diskerud - CM | Free

Out’s

- Jordi Gomez – CAM | 1.3 Million
- David Jones – CM | 800K
- Di Santo – ST | 1.4 Million

Very excited about the new additions to the squad. Redmond and Diskerud are great prospects for the club and will hopefully have many successful years at the DW. As for Marcus Berg, his deal is a short term loan, but if he can impress then I will look to make it permenant.
Tranfers out don’t really need much explaining. Surplus to requirements and helped fund the Redmond deal!

Fulham 0-3 Wigan

A fantastic performance and result…. Berg managed to get himself a goal which was very pleasing. We scored with 23 seconds on the clock, and similar to what happened to us in the home game against Chelsea, happened here for Fulham. Their heads dropped and we took advantage. We looked very strong at the back. Ryan Donk looks to have been a great addition to the squad.

Wigan 0-0 Man Utd

Made up for the 4-0 drumming we received at Old Trafford. We kept united very quiet and could have won this game ourselves! Redmond made his debut for the club and received the man of the match award. Really can’t wait to see him develop into a fantastic player. Can see the likes of United and co coming in for his services in the future.

Newcastle 3-1 Wigan

Really frustrating result, we took an early lead after Berg managed to net his second in three games since signing. The first half was an absolute breeze as we went in 1-0 up. Then we completely switched off and let 3 late goals in. Don’t know whether the players thought we had the game won already, but we completely let this game slip. Newcastle is a tough place to go, but the way should have won this!

Anyways, after 24 games we are sitting 11th in the table. As you can see European football really isn’t out the question. It will be hard to get there, but that’s what I’m working for! Even finishing 11th would be a good achievement in my eyes, as Wigan have only just managed to survive by the skin of their teeth over the last couple of seasons!

Really enjoying this story, and hope you guys are too!

February

Wigan 1-2 Sunderland

Very disappointing result considering we took the lead, and let it slip whilst playing at Home. The defence is definitely the weak point of our team. This summer my main priority is to bring in a few defenders and hopefully strengthen that area of the squad.

Everton 1-2 Wigan

What a fantastic result, possibly our best performance of the season. Everton pulled a goal back in the 91st minute, but apart from that it was a walk in the park for us. I was expecting to lose this game in all honesty, but the boys proved me wrong and recorded a great win. Helenius has been very impressive since Berg joined, and has reclaimed his position up top. Scored both of our goals in this game.

Man City 5-3 Wigan

What a good game this was, we went 4-1 down but the boys heads never dropped. Another 2 goals from Helenius pulled the game back to 4-3 with minutes to go, but as we pilled everyone forward, Man City launched a deadly counter attacked as Nasri applied the finishing touch to make it 5-3 to Mancini’s men. Proud with how we got ourselves back into the game, didn’t really feel like a defeat.

Wigan 2-2 Liverpool

Two goals from Wellington Nem helped us gain a point against Liverpool. In all honesty we deserved nothing from this game, Liverpool where the better team but thanks to Wellington we got lucky. He also managed to win Young Player Of The Month Award for the first time, progression is being made.

March

Spurs 2-0 Wigan

Two wonder goals from Gareth Bale helped put us away, apart from that it was an even match. Both goals where identical, ran with the ball from his own half, taking on 5-6 players in the meantime….then applying a cute finish. From what I have seen in this game, Bale looks massively over-rated on this year’s game. Looks to be in the same league as Messi/Ronaldo. Only time will tell if im correct or not though.

Wigan 3-2 Arsenal

Goals from Wellington Nem, Helenius and Albin, helped us get one over Arsenal. We like to make our matches entertaining for the neutral that’s for sure! A 5 goal thriller which could of had gone either way. Strangely we seem to be performing better against the stronger teams in the league; we need to take this form into the crunch matches. Very pleased to get the win though!

West Ham 1-0 Wigan

There you have it, a perfect example of the point I made in the last game against Arsenal. A team in which we should be looking to pick up at least a point against has gone and beat us. I’m not that bothered though because firstly we were away from home, and secondly our final run of games we can easily pick up points in all of them!

Here is a look at our final 7 league games….could a European finish be possible?????
