ZICO wheres zico then he has gta be the best playmaker in world of football ><

I won't vote in this. For me, picking a best player ever is impossible. You can't compare some positions. For example, and this is for arguments sake, who was to say Pele wasn't better than Gordon Banks? Maybe Pele was a very good striker, but Gordon Banks was a very good keeper. Comparing a goalkeeper and a striker is impossible

My vote for di Stefano due to his commitment and sucess at Madrid ;)

I personally can pick the worlds greatest ever player:
Cameron Jerome.

Where is roy keane. i am a liverpool fan but that guy was quality :)

Worlds greatest ever player?! Are you joking? He was good but no way near the greatest ever!!

He may not be overrated by most people but if he is on a poll for the world's greatest player then there must be something wrong.

I have to agree with many, in that Pele and Maradonna were wondermakers of their day, however they didn't play in the same world as the modern players do, I would say it is harder to maintain an entire career at the highest of levels....Pele was in the USA and Maradonna was a Napoli for ages, they were also surrounded by the finest South Americans of old when playing international footie, so were they really the best ever individual players??...perhaps not....

Zidane is one who done everything in the game (literally!!), he singledhandedly turned Juve and Real into solid, functioning machines that would destroy the opposition...however still not my 1st choice...

Ronaldo (fatty) has to be my choice....even with all players considered, I have never seen someone from the age of 17 frighten defences so much, he would WALK through them, he had it all. Pace, power, technique, first touch, tricks, heading - and above all was one of the finest finishers I have ever seen.

He was their best player and carried Brazil to the 2002 World Cup victory and he was maybe 50% fit!!!!

Zidane is the only one who can match his skills, consistency over a career, honours won and countries in which they were successful....Ronaldo will be my favourite striker forever!!

I wish I could put George Weah on the list....but he doesn't compare to these 2...

hmm pretty sure nedved, del piero, buffon, edgar davids, inzhagi and thuram probably have something to say aout that....

the same goes for casillas, raul, morientes, roberto carlos, guti, hierro, ivan helguera etc.
real madrid were already dominant before the galactico experiment began. in fact they didnt win anything for 3 years after zidanes first season where they were victorious in europe. And as well as the other i mentioned and zidane, im pretty sure figo, beckham, fat ronaldo and calude makelele (they havent been the same since he left) had a major imapct on reals success.

no doubt he was one of the greatest, but the sheer number of votes is down to the relatively young average age of users on this forum imo. few of them will have witnessed laudrup waltzing through midfield for both barca and maadrid (hes adored by both sets of fans, someone luis figo failed to achieve)

here are my opinions:

gk schemichel/buffon/casillas are all equal as goalkeeping gods of my time

full backs, roberto carlos and cafu are the greatest ive ever seen.

centre back: the one and only paolo maldini

defensive midfielder: makelele

attacking mid possibly zidane, but nedved and laudrup are strong contenders in my eyes

wingers: giggs and ronaldinho in his pomp

strikers: fat ronaldo was simply the best finisher of his generation. raul is the champions league all time top scorer and still going strong

Fair comments....I would debate whether Nedved should be up there....true he was marvellous to watch (even now!)....but Zidane just has that Xfactor...and I have also considered what the players I chose achieved all levels, for their whole career........Whereas the unfortunate Best, Giggs, Nedved and even Weah never got the changet to truly perform against the worlds best....or win the honours....so if we are being 'technical'...I don't think you can put them in the same bracket.

Nice team tho and I agree with you for more or less all of them! so be nice in your reply! haha...! (A)

ps - Casillas I think is the best keeper I have ever seen...Schmeical maybe....but casillas is half his size with all the same attributes! when Liverpool played Real 2 seasons ago, Madrid should have lost by 10! he was simply sensational!

ps - Michael or Brian Laudrup....I used to love watching Brian....Michael was at Barca but I never got much of a chance to see him play :(

michael laudrup lol.

casillas is a top keeper, schmeicel was an absolute beast in his prime though, he could stop opponents challenging for a cross through sheer intimidation alone. not quite as good a shotstopper as casillas sure, but hes a different type of keeper. his long throw was also deadly.

it is true about zidanes xfactor yes, he was a magician and the more i think about it, he probably was the best, and certainly the best of the golden generation of 90's/early 2000's football. i jsut dont think hes as far and away as the poll suggests, mainly down to the average age on the forum being quite low and he may be the only player some of them will have seen who was at the very top level.

it is true that best and giggs never got to show their skiills at the top level of international football, but giggs domestic and european trophy cabinet speaks for itself.
