Zidane is one who done everything in the game (literally!!), he singledhandedly turned Juve and Real into solid, functioning machines that would destroy the opposition...however still not my 1st choice...
hmm pretty sure nedved, del piero, buffon, edgar davids, inzhagi and thuram probably have something to say aout that....
the same goes for casillas, raul, morientes, roberto carlos, guti, hierro, ivan helguera etc.
real madrid were already dominant before the galactico experiment began. in fact they didnt win anything for 3 years after zidanes first season where they were victorious in europe. And as well as the other i mentioned and zidane, im pretty sure figo, beckham, fat ronaldo and calude makelele (they havent been the same since he left) had a major imapct on reals success.
no doubt he was one of the greatest, but the sheer number of votes is down to the relatively young average age of users on this forum imo. few of them will have witnessed laudrup waltzing through midfield for both barca and maadrid (hes adored by both sets of fans, someone luis figo failed to achieve)
here are my opinions:
gk schemichel/buffon/casillas are all equal as goalkeeping gods of my time
full backs, roberto carlos and cafu are the greatest ive ever seen.
centre back: the one and only paolo maldini
defensive midfielder: makelele
attacking mid possibly zidane, but nedved and laudrup are strong contenders in my eyes
wingers: giggs and ronaldinho in his pomp
strikers: fat ronaldo was simply the best finisher of his generation. raul is the champions league all time top scorer and still going strong
