Having retained the Portuguese league last season, S.L. Benfica go straight through to the
UEFA Champions League Group stages.


2nd place in the league last season see's F.C. Porto avoid the best placed
play-offs and will go straight into the Group Stages though they will be disappointed
having lost out of the league title for the second year in a row. .


Sporting Club de Portugal finished an expectant 3rd and will contest the UEFA
Champions League Best Places Play-off; Though they will do so as an Unseeded team.
Manchester United, Valencia, Shakhtar, CSKA Moscow and Bayern Leverkusen are
among the teams they will have to overcome if they want to progress to the UEFA
Champions League Group Stages.
