Two weeks ago, in anticipation of Football Manager 2024, I deleted Football Manager 2023 only to realize I'm too addicted to the game that I ended up re-installing it and trying to build something that can be replicated, and enhanced in FM24's new match engine with all the positional play additions. I set out to create a 2-3-5 with an Ajax team before transfer updates, a save which I could transfer to FM24 and test out the additions, and with this particular tactic - I'm having a blast!
My initial thinking was how I could make Dušan Tadić a wide creator that he is(, or well, was) for Ajax while achieving a 2-3-5 shape which is supposed to dominate games, as Ajax should be doing in Eredivisie, and which is something Ajax is currently not doing. To me, from the get go, it was clear that Trequartista was the role for him, but it's a role I have never used before in FM, so I experimented a little, and end results for the tactic in general were amazing for me. From football perspective, how it played out, how beautiful the football was, down to the results, winning every trophy there is in already the first season.
Now, caveat to that, my road to Champions League final was very easy, and in two instances, I got very lucky. Knocking out Real Madrid in semi-final on penalties, and beating Liverpool in the final with a 93rd minute penalty goal to finish the match with 2-1. Domestic trophies were pretty easy to get.
My biggest disappointment was that in the league, my team didn't have the highest amount of possession, AZ comfortably took that spot with 65% average possession, while my team came second with 62%.
