1. FC Union Berlin - Capital Domination

That is the one thing that has always put me off managing in the Bundesliga! Love the country, the league, the teams, but hate the no under 17's rule :(

Yeah it's a bit daft. Good thing I didn't sell Ocampos in January though as I was planning on making him my backup left winger till the end of the season if I had sold him XD

April was a massive month for us and it really couldn't have gone much better! 3 league wins, 1 against 4th placed Dortmund, 1 against 6th placed Leverkusen and a fantastic 4-1 win away in the Berliner Derby against Hertha Berlin. To make things even better Schalke managed to beat Bayern in Munchen on the last game day of the month, allowing us to extend our lead at the top. We also managed 2 dominant 4-1 wins in the German Cup, firstly at home to Dortmund in the quarters and then away to Schalke in the semi final. Bayern beat Hoffenheim 3-2 in their semi to set up a repeat of last years final and that is now 3 out of the last 4 years that it will be a Bayern Munchen vs Union Berlin final!

League Table:

View attachment 247680

4 games to go and 4 points ahead of Bayern, who we play next at home in the league. Win that and we will all but have secured the title. If we lose then we'll start to get extremely nervous again as the run in would likely go right down to the final day!

Player of the Month - Torsten Schroder

View attachment 247679

Torsten wins the award for a 2nd month running after bagging 6 goals in the 5 games including a hatrick in the Berliner Derby. He's already cemented his place as a fan favourite and I suppose I have to credit Yeti01 for convincing me to go through with the deal and sign him!

Player Stats:

View attachment 247676

Schroder is already our top performer at age 19 and my coaches are now saying he's a world class striker, but still doubt he'll improve any in the future. Patrick Herrmann is probably enjoying his best form his joining the club on the right flank and maybe that is due to the fact he has heard we have agreed a deal to sign a new French wonderkid winger...

Other News:

1)
Although our finances aren't looking great, we were set our transfer budget after securing Champions League football for next season and I couldn't resist signing French winger Marvin Muller from PSG for an initial £14,000,000 (only £5,000,000 up front), with a couple of million in add ons. Lightening quick, with solid technical skills and work rate, the media describe him as a wonderkid and a front 3 of him Schroder and Brandt will probably be one of, if not the, best in the world in a couple of years time!

Next update will be a live update of the game against Bayern, can we get one hand on the Bundesliga title by beating them and moving 7 points ahead with just 3 games to go?

Come on mate you can win it!! That winger looks class too, very good deal.

FC Union Berlin vs Bayern Munchen - Live Updates

View attachment 247647

KICK OFF - We're off here in Berlin. If Union win today they will extend their lead at the top to 7 points with just 3 games to go, however if Bayern win they will cut the gap to just 1 point. Berlin are at full strength minus Seko Fofana, with only Mario Gotze out injured for Munchen with Denis Suarez taking his place in the side.

7 - GOAL - A perfect start here in Berlin for Bayern, with Denis Suarez putting them ahead after just 7 minutes following a through ball from Lewandowski which splitted the Union defence. How will Union react to this early setback?

13 - Ex Bayern man has a chance for Union after a short corner made it's way to him, only for his shot to rebound away off teammate Torsten Schroder.

17 - Julian Brandt goes close from 50 yards after a Manuel Neuer freekick was sliced to him, but Brandt couldn't put the ball into the empty net on the half volley from 50 yards out.

22 - GOAL - It's the man of the moment Torsten Schroder who brings Union Berlin level with a brilliant half volley from inside the area after a Julian Brandt cross. Game on!

24 - GOAL - Bayern are back in front here in Berlin with another goal from Denis Suarez, with the diminutive Spaniard turning the ball in at the back post following a great cross from Memphis Depay. The Stadion an der Alten Forsterei has gone very quiet again.

36 - A fantastic chance for Julian Korb to bring Berlin level once again however he is thwarted by Manuel Neuer.

48 - A second chance of the game for Sebastien Rode, but his strike from the edge of the box did not have the required power to beat Manuel Neuer. Berlin have started the second half well.

66 - Another Union chance falls to an ex Bayern player as Joshua Kimmich hits an effort low and hard towards the bottom left hand corner but Manuel Neuer is equal to it once again. Berlin are struggling to find away past the big German for a second time in the game.

71 - RED CARD - What is it with Union Berlin and red cards in this fixture. Sven Bender gets himself sent off for a second yellow card for an off the ball incident. Complete stupidity and the Berlin manager isn't very happy!

80 - This is the closest we have been yet to a Berlin equalizer as Schroder hits the bar from 20 yards and Rojas is only denied a tap in by a last ditch sliding tackle from Bernat.

87 - He's got to score that! Julian Brandt gets played through on the inside of the Bayern right back, but sees his effort rebound off the post after putting it past the advancing Manuel Neuer. That may well be the last chance Berlin get to level here.

93 - Another fantastic save from point blank range from Neuer to prevent Berlin equalizing. The resulting corner finds Gnabry who turns the ball towards goal only to be denied by Neuer once again.

FULL TIME - Well the title race is well and truly back on as Bayern end Berlin's unbeaten season so far. Just how Bayern managed to win this game I'm not sure, with Union dominating the game both with 11 men and then when they went down to 10 men. If Bayern end up retaining their title then they have Neuer to thank!

Next update will be a May update, can we hold onto our 1 point lead at the top in the final 3 league games...

NOOOOO!!!! You can still do it mate come on!

We've done it! 3 wins from the final 3 games of the season to maintain our top spot and win become champions of Germany for the first ever time! We started with a scrappy 1-0 win away at Hoffenheim thanks to a Sebastian Rode goal in the 54th minute and followed that with a comfortable 3-1 win over Freiburg at home, with Schroder bagging a brace over his old club and Rode getting his 2nd of the month. Red Bull Leipzig managed to take a point off Bayern on the same matchday, meaning we only needed to take a point from our final day away at Wolfsburg to win the title. Luckily Sebastian Rode continued his goalscoring form and bagged himself a brace on top of a Benteke penalty off the bench to give us a 3-1 win and to bring the trophy back to the capital.

We finish on 83 points, 5 more than we achieved last season. Our title win ends Bayern's dominance of 5 straight Bundesliga titles and we secure a nice £34,000,000 which has put our finances back in the black.

Player of the Month - Sebastian Rode

View attachment 247631

4 goals in the 4 games in May from centre midfield, the German saved his best form this season for when we needed it most and stood in well for Seko Fofana!

Player Stats:

View attachment 247630

17 goals in half a season for Schroder, I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do over a full season! We scored plenty of goals all over the team, although only 6 goals between our two right wingers is probably an area which could be improved. The squad currently has 14 Germans, so I'll need to find two more in order to fit the squad regulations for next season. However our backup left back Ostrzolek is moaning about his game time and may need to be moved on, which would mean we'd have to sign another German.

Next update will be a live update of the German Cup final, can we complete a domestic treble or will Bayern be able to get their first trophy of the season?

YES!!! Huge congrats mate what an achievment

Well done mate, congrats! That competition history was looking way too one sided.

German Cup Final - FC Union Berlin vs Bayern Munchen

View attachment 247612

KICK OFF - Schroder and Rode get the game under way for Union Berlin in front of a packed Olympiastadion. Berlin are without the suspended Gunter and the injured Fofana, whilst Bayern are without Gotze, Badstuber and Bernat through injury. The surprise for Bayern is a change from their usual 4-4-1-1 to a 4-4-2 and bringing in Germany under 21 striker Loris Noto for his first start in the competition.
2 - The first chance goes to the German champions as Schroder drives at the Bayern defence and unleashes a viscious strike towards goal which cracks off the bar and bounces out for a throw in.

4 - GOAL - Schroder was never going to miss 2 chances in a row. Ex Bayern midfielder Kimmich rolled the ball down the side of centre back Knoche and Schroder was on hand to smash the ball past Neuer and put Berlin 1-0 up.

9 - GOAL - The Union Berlin fans are going crazy here as Matthias Ginter makes it 2-0 inside the first 10 minutes, converting a Herrmann cross from a short corner. Bayern need to wake up here or Berlin will run away with this.

11 - GOAL - It's 3! The ball was bouncing around in the Bayern Munchen area before coming out to Stafylidis, who slotted in Julian Brandt to curl one oast Neuer and make it 3-0.

12 - Bayern create their first chance of the game but Lewandowski heads the ball over the bar from 7 yards after a great Depay cross from the right.

13 - It's nearly 4 here as Neuer has to react quickly to prevent Rode's strike from the edge of the box.

23 - The game has settled down a little here as Schroder tries one from distance, only for his shot to be deflected behind for a corner.

26 - Manuel Neuer makes a brilliant save to stop Berlin going 4-0 up from a Julian Brandt strike. A lot of these Bayern Munchen players look to have given up already.

42 - Sebastian Rode goes down with an injury and is to be replaced by young midfielder Dusan Krstevski. The decision may be a surprise to a few Berlin fans as they have Besic on the bench.

43 - Again we nearly see Berlin go 4-0 up as Schroder slots in Bender, who beats Neuer only to see his effort bounce down off the bar and get cleared on the line by a backtracking Boateng..

HALF TIME - Union are half way there to a domestic treble at half time with a 3-0 advantage.

65 - GOAL - Could the comeback be on? Bayern have pulled one back in here through reserve team striker Serkan Yaker.

68 - GOAL - The comeback is very much on. A Memphis Depay free kick from the left hand side was flicked on by Lewandowski and past Kevin Trapp into the top corner. Munich have over 20 minutes to find an equalizer.

91 - Berlin nearly extend their lead but Kimmich's effort is cleared off the line by Thomas Muller. 2 minutes left to hold on for Berlin.

FULL TIME - They made it harder than it should have been, but Union Berlin complete a season of domestic dominance by beating rivals Bayern Munchen 3-2 at the Olympiastadion in the German Cup final.

Next up will be a 2019/2020 season preview. It will be an interesting season as we look to defend all 3 domestic titles, whilst doing better in Europe and meeting our new squad rules in terms of domestic players. It will also be our last season at our current stadium...

Been meaning to read this for ages and have finally caught up! Outstanding piece of writing! Such a brilliant story. :)

Transfers:

View attachment 247560

Not quite as busy as last year but we still had plenty of business to do this summer and we made a nice £21,000,000 profit in doing so. The biggest sales this summer included left winger Ocampos to (who else) PSG for £20,000,000 (profit of £8,500,000). They've now given us £100,000,000 for 3 left wingers over 3 seasons! It also included Koray Gunter to Monaco for £17,500,000 (profit of £8,500,000), Rojas to Huddersfield for £7,500,000 (profit of £5,000,000), Besic to Barca for £11,500,000 (profit of £1,500,000), Trapp to Reading for £10,000,000 (profit of £4,750,000) and Benteke to Sevilla for £14,000,000 (profit of £9,000,000).

View attachment 247555View attachment 247554View attachment 247553View attachment 247552View attachment 247551View attachment 247550

Onto the incomings and we brought in 3 Germans in the shape of Berdt Leno for £10,000,000, Weigl for £7,000,000 and Sule from Hoffenheim for £17,000,000 in order to bring us up to 16 eligible German national team players in the squad. Leno and Sule will be first 11 starters, whilst Weigl will be backup in the midfield areas.

View attachment 247548View attachment 247549View attachment 247547

I've already highlighted the signing of wonderkid French winger Muller from PSG. We also resigned Malcom from Real Madrid for £7,000,000 after selling him for £15,000,000 in January to be our backup striker. What's even better is we had a 25% sell on clause so we got 25% of the fee back straight away. Finally we brought in a couple of players on loan in order to be backup in their respective positions.

Squad:

View attachment 247542View attachment 247541

The squad is a little stronger than last season on the whole and probably has a better quality in depth. In assembling this squad we also managed to make a nice healthy profit on transfers and meet the 16 eligible German squad rule so I've got to be pretty happy with what we've achieved.

German Super Cup:

View attachment 247540

Unfortunately we couldn't hold onto our German Super Cup after Munchen beat us 5-4 on penalties after a boring 0-0 draw inside 90 minutes. Not the best start to the season but ultimately I'm not that bothered about the German Super Cup.

Next update will be an August update with 4 Bundesliga games and a German Cup 1st round tie against lower league opposition.

Congratulations on the fantastic achievement!! Both you and the club earned it.
And also nice transfers.

Nice bit of business there in the summer, tidy bits of profit and good deal resigning Malcom like that as well
