2014 World Cup thread

Not sure what you are on about. Generally defenders don't expect their holding midfielders to play a back pass' right into the danger zone

Defenders drop deep from goal-kicks and generally mark their men but we'll agree to disagree

We both feel the other is wrong, that's not going to change

Please don't make me dream ... Rodgers would make the perfect England boss atm

I think Rodgers' impact has come from consistent coaching though, a luxury he won't have if he is the England boss. That's why it's such a tough gig, you need to be able to drill you players in a very short amount of time.

This World Cup truly is bonkers and unpredictable.

This has to be the first when in the 'group of death' theoretically worst team takes the lead after 2 rounds.

Story for the ages. Truly spectacular.

The last time France was leading 3-0 at half time was 1930 against Mexico. This World Cup had broken so many records it's crazy.

Generally defenders use their eyes and notice the guy who's already smashed home one goal making a run in behind them.

Yes Gerrard didn't get to the ball like he wanted and it probably kept Suarez onside but if your two center backs can't keep an eye on one player and stop him from walking into a mile of space then it's them who are to blame. It's for that reason they do often tend to drop deeper at goal kicks to stop any stupid route one goals going in. Isn't the first time it's happened to England.

Except he didn't make a run in behind them as he was already in a offside position. So unless you discovered a defender that has eyes in the back of his head, I can't see your point. We all agree that it was stupid for Cahill and Jags to step up and play Suarez offside. We all agree that Captain Slippy made a stupid error. Let's stop dragging this out by trying to absolve Gerrard of the blame

Wait what?

Suarez was stood between them both, Cahill can see him because he's looking towards Cavani who is the other side of Suarez. Cavani makes the run forward to the ball and Suarez drops in between Jagielka and Cahill and makes the run in behind Jagielka.

Jagielka was stood in no mans land when Cavani ran forward off him and Cahill who can see Suarez whilst all this is happening is far too slow to follow him. By the time Suarez gets the ball it looks like he's 10 yards offside because of how slow Cahill and jagielka are to react to it, he was about a yard off when the ball hit Gerrard.

No one is trying to absolve Gerrard of blame just he wasn't the only one involved. To say he was the main cause of it though is wrong, you're just doing what you do best and stirring.

I don't see why you guys are so upset, it's clear that this team only has this much immediate potential but for the future the story can be different. Surely I'm young but this seems to be one of the most talented (and entertaining) England generations . We'll see.

Hoping this game will be a foul fest. Had a tenner on there being 3 mins or more injury time in the first half with odds of 11/2

So I guess we're now going to overanalyze Suarez's second goal for next 5 months, as if it was some sort of complicated situation.

Gerard made an error, yes, was he the only one, no, was it a massive blundrer - also no, I'd like to see you compete in the air with brick wall like Cavani and see how many teeth you'd have left after the first attempt. That's it. Hardly worth a national debate. Unless you're really just butthurt Lampard didn't make the squad.
