2014 World Cup thread

I am not being defensive. You came into the debate stating such and such yet you try to discredit someone elses opinion on something. I am stating if you want to read what has been said previously which is why I used the caps for it not because I am being defensive but to highlight what I already said. And then you quote "but the risk is low" I know that. I have said that. Jeez.

Thats why I said you like to nit-pick.

I am not being defensive.

BUT SERIOUSLY YOU GUYS THE **** WORLD CUP IS ON CAN WE DISCUSS IT INSTEAD OF HIV

I really want to see the group H results. Belgium are through, obviously, so they could be complacent against Algeria, but if they are Algeria only need one goal to leapfrog them into first place. Russia and South Korea are both okay outfits, but Russia are massively missing Shirokov, and they're two and three goals respectively off second. Doubt either of them'll make it through but hey, who knows.

Yeah both should be good, I think both Portugal and Ghana will have goals in them I like the look of ayew hopefully this match turns into a you have a shot we will have a shot.

Could do, Gyan's a big stage player and now he actually has some support in the Ayews. That group is still so open, it's crazy when before the tournament that was considered something of an open and shut group.

Portugal Vs Ghana should be good as both teams need massive goal swings to qualify and need Germany to beat USA by big margin.

Hopefully we see a fluid attacking game from Portugal, been a massive disappointment.

I just hope Belgium don't rotate so much rotation has properly stung my fantasy football teams this week was always gunna happen I know but so annoying.
i think Belgium should have too much for Korea and Algeria seem pretty handy with the ball so they should overcome a very disappointing Russia side. Looks like they've been capello'd (I jest)

The whole point was that someone said they would "rather" be bitten in a game than hacked. I pointed out the other potential risks a bite can carry. There is nothing wrong with doing that. It is not sensationlizing anything like others seem to think and others jump on board just to nit pick and score points.

The debate did take a turn and I helped to do that. I am not bothered about it but you are correct it could be taken to another thread but I am more for talking about the World Cup also but as Suarez has bitten someone then in a slight way it has all been relevant.

Portugal are such a disappointing team in terms of personnel, year on year. They've hardly ever been able to create top class forwards - ****, even Eusebio was naturalised from Mozambique - and their last good one was Liedson, who was Brazilian. All that crazy midfield talent and then ******* Helder Postiga gets put up top. It says a lot that he's like their eighth highest scorer OF ALL TIME or somesuch madness.

I did a blog for Fantasy I-team on this group so I was quite interested to see how it turned out

I agree their lack of talents in strikers is embarrassing when you consider the talent in midfield and wingers.

I just hope everytime Portugal plays that Moutinho, Ronaldo, Nani clicks and play some attacking football but they look as disjointed as England.

Belgium are playing South Korea. ;)

Oh my bad. That's... potentially even more interesting then. SK are a decent defensive team, they just have no strikers apart from Son. That group is wide open then, because Russia are very capable of beating Algeria by a decent margin.

The Russians will melt under the heat and it will be a dull game because of Capello.

SK is not really decent defensively, I mean they conceded 4 against Ghana, 4 against Algeria, 4 against Mexico and 2 against USA in just this year, and they barely qualified for the World Cup. They have much better attackers than defenders too.

Think the biggest injury of the tournmanent so far has been the one to Shirkov ... Russia's gameplan centred heavily around him

Be fair to Fabio, he lost Shirokov. He was their main goal threat and it totally unbalanced the side. Desperately unlucky.

Yeah, although most of those results were in friendlies. Shipping 4 to Algeria was mostly because they got desperate and threw everyone forward. South Korea have always been quite well organised defensively, with a talented crop of defensive midfielders, but this time around I think individually their defenders haven't quite been up to scratch, and their attackers - Son and Lee Keun-Ho excepted - haven't been able to make up the shortfall.

Reports that Kevin Prince Boateng and Sully Muntari have been sacked from the Ghana team.

In terms of star power, no. In terms of actual importance to the team, he's tied with Ronaldo. It's a massive shame.

Non football related content within. Please ignore if you don't mind getting HIV from Suarez.

Not to derail the thread again but just to clear up any misinformation people might have gotten about getting HIV from being bitten.

The only sources I've ever seen for HIV or AIDS being transferred via biting label it as being: "epidemiologically insignificant". So whilst it is possible, in reality it's an absolutely tiny risk. The piece quoted said the risk of infection was "high" and then listed HIV as one of the diseases that could be transmitted. That would seem to imply that a human bite is highly likely to transfer disease, and equally likely to transfer any of the diseases mentioned. Its failure to qualify the likelihood of transmission is blatant sensationalism.

It listed HIV, Hepatitus at the end because it could be possible to contract. There are other infections that are higher risk that can from a human bite. In a report of fifty cases of bite injuries over a third contracted a Staphylococcus aureus infection. Yes quite high and potentially serious. Also any bite that has pierced the skin can also lead to blood poisoning, meningitis and endocarditis if the infected area is not treated with antibiotics.

That doesn't make any sense. It's position in the article doesn't have a great deal of bearing over what it actually says and the way that it says it.

There are associated risks that come with being bitten, I don't deny that. I don't think anyone with a working understanding of biology could. However, that doesn't change the fact that the source you quoted sensationalises the risk of contracting HIV from such an injury.

Complain to the actual medical site that wrote it then if you disagree with them.

Now, Muntari is reported to have slapped a senior GFA official during a heated meeting, while Boateng "verbally abused" coach Kwesi Appiah, said the GFA.
The Ghana FA have added: "The decision was taken in the wake of his unprovoked physical attack on an executive committee member of the GFA and a management member of the Black Stars, Mr Moses Armah on Tuesday 24th June, 2014 during a meeting.
"The GFA has approved coach Kwesi Appiah's decision to suspend Kevin-Prince Boateng indefinitely from the Black Stars.
"The decision was taken following Boateng's vulgar verbal insults targeted at coach Kwesi Appiah during the team's training session in Maceio this week.
"Boateng has since showed no remorse for his actions which has resulted in the decision."
