2014 World Cup thread

However my point actually was about who's Thudd? Do you know of any other good young English holding midfielders who are coming up? We really lack that.

I'd like to see Jack Cork given a shot. Fabian Delph isn't a pure holder but he tackles and intercepts a lot so he deserves a go too.

Those who have played FIFA know the 3-5-2 does not work... Worry everytime Reus, Robben, Ribery ETC come against you

Lies, 3-5-2 is OP as ****. Just need dem pacey CBs ;)

Our midfield for the Euro's is going to be interesting... I just pray to god Gerrard actually does retire, as well as Lampard... because we are getting literally nowhere whilst they remain.

Even though Carrick/Barry would of been a backwards step... not as much so as either of them.

Tom Huddlestone, who Tottenham let go because he was behind about four wildly talented central midfielders and had had an injury-prone season. Tom Huddlestone, who plays in a role where pace is probably literally the least important attribute. Tom Huddlestone, who made 94 (NINETY FOUR) tackles this season gone, beating out the likes of Gareth Barry, Michael Carrick, Jordan Henderson, Yaya Toure, Jack Cork, Victor Wanyama, Mohamed Diame and even Gary ******* Medel, a player whose JOB it was to run around and tackle lots. Tom Huddlestone, who is literally the only English holding midfielder in his prime under the age of 30. Tom Huddlestone, who has come off the back of a fantastic season, where he was the heartbeat of an overachieving promoted side.

Good grief, if you think he's that bad then I hate to see what you require in order to give someone a shot in the ****** national team. Or perhaps we should just go back to Gareth Barry for 2016?

Championship league player at best. Hull were the only team that wanted him so that says wonders for him. The way you are going on he is World class. Laughable. Cant wait to see the top clubs wanting him. Oh yeah, they dont thats why he is at Hull. I have followed his career and the player that is better is Livermore by a country mile. Yes I have watched Hull this year and Huddlestone is still the same player that Spurs released because he is not any good for a top side. If you think he is the future then I am sorry you need to get a grip.

And as for someone comparing him to Pirlo and his role!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bemusment all round. You might get good results with him playing FM but that is no reflection on the real life player.

I wasn't comparing him to Pirlo, I was just pointing out the fact that someone like him who is renowned as being World-Class and one of the best players ever in that role lacks pace and tackling ability... yet you somehow deem it important.

Sigh... I give up.

One thing is for certain, a good team ethic and playing people to their strengths will always benefit the side better than all the best individuals put in a side

However, it is very hard to drop certain individuals IE Rooney, Gerrard etc.

Gerrard is retiring... please lord... let him retire... I want to see fresh faces in that midfield... so bored of seeing the same old failed recipes there.

The difference between Pirlo and Huddlestone is that Pirlo has a footballing brain which is far more important than any other ability in the game. That is worth far more than pace and tackling ability. Huddlestone has none of the said traits. Pirlo and Huddlestone being compared is like comparing a venison steak to horse meat.

Off you go and give up then. You know when you are beaten obviously.

Gerrard is still our best midfield option but you cannot play him as a defensive midfielder in a two-man midfield, it does not work.

But i am not sure who is going to replace him in the defensive mid role

You call Huddlestone a championship player at best yet he has had a good season in the Premier League with a relegation tipped team. Honestly there is nothing to argue here... because you will blindly believe yourself as being right.

Then you say he can't tackle despite GodCubed pulling out one of his crazy stats to prove you wrong... what more needs to be said?

Oh yeah Godcubed is a tactical genius because he pulls stats from other websites, how silly of me not to realise that!!!. Stats can be used to turn a **** player into a worldie if believed. I actually take time out to use my own eyes to judge players on abilities and not from websites or what other so wannabe called experts believe because they have keyboards to type stats from. Again if Huddlestone is that good he would be playing in a side that is challenging at the top end when Spurs let him go. He is not, end of argument as the top managers know what he is lacking in. Wenger would be in for him if he is so good, So would Mourinho and half the managers that watch players on a regular basis. So yeah as you said what more needs to be said about a player that is hardly any good and not rated by top managers. End of debate all round.

Yes, Huddlestone is not good enough for a top side, but he is still easily better than all the other options you can find for England, because England is precisely that awful. Name me another English midfielder that can pass, tackle and intercept balls? Oh and doesn't slip when it matters. Henderson is the only one like that in the World Cup squad.

**** no not Huddlestone! Heck I would sooner have Livermore or Carrick heck even Cattermole than Huddlestone.

The same Huddlestone that was looked at by Capello and not deemed good enough because he is too slow in pace and brain to be an international player of any quality. I think capello is a better judge of character than someone posting stats of a player on a football game forum. Yet people think he is the next saviour of English football. I know it's opinions but some are just beyond comprehension in the real world.

Whatever next. People putting up stats of Crouch's scoring record for England to prove he should be in the squad as well.
