2014 World Cup thread

I don't expect anything significant to be done with the Suarez thuggery. Zidane only got a 3 match ban after his disgusting headbutt in 06. They won't have the balls to do anything

Genuinely wouldn't be ****** off if we sold Lukaku for 30+mill and bought Bony instead. Said all last season Bony offers far far more and with Swansea signing Gomis he may be off??

Really? I think he disappears in a lot of games.

I was very impressed with him last season personally. Drogba was like that, i watched Drogba anonymous for 89 minutes and then bang, scores the winner with a thunderbastard and everyone says how great he was lol.

Loved Gabby giving it to Roy straight. No Roy you weren't good you were ****** awful and the fans won't be happy after that performance. The bloke is seriously deluded if he thinks that was an excellent performance.

I remember after Liverpool lost 2-0 to Everton at Goodison he said similar things and that it was our best performance of the season ... It is times likes this the manager needs to admit we were not good enough

I really want to like him.... but I just can't... he's such an outdated manager it's unreal.

We need someone tactically astute and capable of getting the most out of an average team.. like many managers have at this World Cup so far... (Chile, Columbia, Costa Rica, Mexico, etc.)

I think the conditions in Brazil have possibly helped those teams as well. They are all well suited to them.

James Rodriguez is just too much! Up there for player of the tournament so far, Man Utd should have bought him a couple years ago when linked.

I remember that he was a God for me in FM!

Edit: Oh my God this James Rodriguez is seriously on fire. What an amazing goal!

There's nothing worse than a manager trying to kid the fans.

Drama for Greece.

Possibly one of the most boring teams in the competition and manage to get through the group.

Greece v Costa Rica in the last 16, you have got to be kidding me

BTW, call me cynical but there were three minutes of added time, only 30 seconds were played. The other 2 and half minutes were the penalty and the celebrations!?

Yeah i remember playing FM 11 (which i still play) and had him at Liverpool when he was 32 and he was unreal still!

How are they boring? They have as many shots as Colombia in the game that they lose 3-0, had to resort to ultra defensive mode because they have a player sent off in the first half against Japan, and today definitely the better team, although the penalty is a dodgy one.

RE Suarez:
- Longest ban FIFA can impose is 24 matches or two years
- They have the power to impose a worldwide ban but that is highly unlikely
- The worst punishment they have ever gave is 8 games for Mauro Tassotti

At this moment the likelihood is that he is almost certain to miss any remaining games of the World Cup, even if Uruguay reach the final

Lugano should take his head out of Suarez **** so that he can see the incident again.

To be fair, Zidane wasn't a repeat offender and the reason he headbutted Materrazi was because the defender was insulting him. Not trying to claim that it justifies anything but certainly makes it very different from the Suarez scenario ...

Considering that his last ban was for 10 games ... I really doubt FIFA can just give him something pathetic like a 5 game international ban. This might very well be the case that they throw the book at him especially since it's also the second time his deceitful ways has got his country through to the next round of a World Cup
