2014 World Cup thread

As I have quoted before. When I have done some media work that the players I have spoken to they do not want to play in it regardless what fans think. They just want to go home after missing out on a World Cup Final.

I understand it, but I doubt that applies to every situation. For one I think Brazil players will be fired up for the game after the Germany loss.

Just moving away from the 3rd place playoff for a second who do you guys think will win the goldenball? Got to be Rodriguez for me the kids been a revelation.

(I apologise if this has been brought up already but not kept up with this thread much recently)

I agree. German fans are wanting it to go to Kroos. They reckon he has been the rock in the German team.

Yeah Rodriguez for me too.

I think Rodriguez deserves it, but isn't it most of the time that someone who wins the cup gets the price?

Just googled it, romario was the last world cup winner to win the golden ball, but I do see your point as by the time the final has been played, quarter finals are long forgotten and that's when we last seen Rodriguez.

I just don't like it... playing for a 3rd place no one will remember, you play to win the World Cup, if you don't then you're a loser like everyone else. No one will remember in the future... oh yes they finished 3rd!

Imagine having a 3rd place in the Champions League? It's the same logic.

Now that's debateable. If Singapore finished 3rd in the WC by some miracle ... I am pretty sure people here would remember it for a long time. It's only viewed as a 'loser' match by countries who have won world cups before. For a small country, finishing 3rd could potentially be the greatest sporting achievement in their history

Maybe it's just me but I would remember the fact that Singapore got to the semifinals rather than 3rd or 4th place .

Hmm well it all depends on perception I suppose ... Nonetheless, I don't really mind the match as it apparently has had a lot of goals throughout history. Should be fun

Yeah, I agree with that, each person probably sees it differently. Hope for a goal fest!

If the game is filled with goals then why not? Let's hope for a fun game to watch as both teams no longer has anything but pride to play for.

LOL that's cruel. But honestly can you really see Brazil winning after their humiliation?

It was more for the Arsenal comment actually - I'm not sure on tonight, all depends what teams and mentalities turn up

both don't really want to play the game
