A New Season!

July 2010

At last! Those tiresome days in the summer have past, with little football to quench the nations thirst. But all is fine now, football is back, and looking down to one of the lowest leagues, a remarkable story can be found. Having been newly appointed last season, to his first job in football, Ben set about transforming Cadbury Athletic, guiding them to second place and winning the play off final. The side are now in the Baker Joiner Midland Football Alliance.

There have been some changes in the running of the club, this season. Most noticeably the change of vice-captain, from Danny Harvey, the centre back, to new signing, 37 year old Alex Russel, the previous Royal Marines and Bristol City player. The assistant manager, Carey, was also replaced with Gavin Cosson, who should help in masterminding this higher standard of league.

It was a busy pre season for the Cadbury team, with 10 games, playing in Czech Republic, Azerbaijan, Russia, Spain, Italy, Armenia and England. It seems that Cadbury has chosen the pre season opposition for financial reasons, and who can blame them, after all they are trying to bank roll consecutive promotions!

Once again a fairly good pre season for Cadbury, with lucrative matches, and great experience for the boys.

Cadbury In A New League
August 2010

The second season has begun for Cadbury Athletic, and after a solid, and lucrative, pre-season the boys seem raring to go, with the young captain helped by the experienced Alex Russell taking up the vice captain role, having learnt valuable leadership qualities after a season with the Royal Marines.

The side start with only 3 league matches, against Rushall Olympic, Biddulph Victoria and Studley. They are certainly in for a tough opening game, with Rushall Olympic tipped for 1st place, although the following two are with relegation candidates. Cadbury are also into the FA CUP! Their first game is the First Qualifying Round against Merstham, with a possible Second Round Qualifying match afterwards.

A great start to the season, undefeated, in second place with 9 points, behind Westfields who are on 10 points after playing an extra game. The club have also advanced to the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, which if won will lead to a staggering £3000 prize, and the path to further riches kept open! It is safe to say that Cadbury have once again silenced the critics, showing them that they can handle the big boys!

The Run Continues
September 2010

After a fantastic first month, Cadbury have 3 more league games coming up and will be wanting to continue the undefeated run. They play Willenhall Town, Sutton Coldfield Town and Long Buckby. Furthermore, the boys have a tasty F.A. Cup tie against Chippenham, in the third qualifying round, if they can win that and the following fourth round, then they will finally make the one and only F.A Cup! They also have a more realistic match in the F.A Vase, against Dudley Town.

Long Buckby 1 - 0 Cadbury Athletic

Well a mixed month, terrific success in the cup, reaching the FA Cup first round, having drawn Blue Sqaure North side Nuneaton! Also the side are through to the F.A Vase first round. However after 2 more unbeaten games, the side were finally toppled by Long Buckby, who are down at 18th place. This means Cadbury are in tenth place, with four games in hand, and only 7 points of the leaders, meaning a potential 5 point lead when the side draw level on games. They just need to bide their time, as such all is good for the Cadbury team!

Draining Month For Cadbury Athletic

October 2010

The side have had a great start to the season, despite being far down in the league positions. This is due to their own success in the cups, and they have many games in hand. The side face Alvechurch, Oadby Town, Highgate United and Boldmere St. Michaels in the league, with other games in the FA Vase and FA Cup, facing Malmesbury Victoria and Blue Sqaure North side Nuneaton respectively. A tough and gruelling month is in store for the side. Perhaps this is why he management have claimed to have reduced the intensity of training this month, in an effort to try and keep the players rested, and stop tiredness leading to injuries.

A tiring and dissapointing month for the team in the league, failing to get any more then one win, and a very surprising loss against relegation candidates Oatby Town. However once again a terrific month in the cup, with the side progressing to the third round of the FA Cup! This has led to a profit of £30,000 this month!

The month has led the gaffer to be very worried in the depth of the squad. The side are often having to turn out players who are not fully fit, as they are having to play many games in the month, due to their success in the cups.

End Of Cup Success!
October 2010

With the season starting to build up pace, Cadbury have 4 games in the league to play. Coleshill Town, Causeway United, Bridgnorth Town and Daventry United make up the opposition, in what should be four relatively straight forward games, with none of the teams in the top half. Cadbury also have 2 cup matches this month against Yeovil and Eccleshall. In the FA Cup third round critics will surely think that a win would be a step to far; and after a great cup run perhaps their time is up. However, they should progress to the next round in the FA Vase, where they are playing Eccleshall.

Cadbury Athletic 2 - 1 Bridgnorth Town

Daventry United 0 - 3 Cadbury Athletic

Well what a contrast from the previous months. A great run in the league, with four wins out of four, and being knocked out of both cups. The side are now in 8th place, with 6 games in hand and only 7 points off, meaning they are in good stead for a top place, and run at the title, especially now that they can focus on the league and not the cups. The main worry is that the players are very tired, after playing 24 games in just 3 months. What's more, they have 14 games in the next month, in order to catch up with the pack.
