Man City 4-1 West Brom, Eastlands

PA-10142992.jpg

A double from star striker Carlos Tevez helped Manchester City well on their way to a comfortable 4-1 win over newly-promoted side West Bromwich Albion, even though they had to play most of the 2nd half with 10 men after ex-captain Kolo Toure was sent off for a 2nd bookable offence just after the hour mark . The Argentine opened the scoring on 22 minutes after picking his way through the West Brom defence before cleverly chipping Boaz Myhill. It was 2-0 when Tevez then set-up his strike partner Edin Dzeko to score a terrific curler from the edge of the area, 2-0 the score at half-time. Tevez made it 3 as he got onto the end of a David Silva cross. Kolo Toure managed to score before he was sent off heading home from a Silva corner and getting onto the end of a Vincent Kompany flick-on. After the 4th goal, West Brom hit back immediately through Paul Scharner as he quite comfortably slotted the ball past Shay Given in the city goal, Given who had to come on at half-time because Joe Hart picked up a knock and the England goalkeeper is likely to be assessed on Monday morning to determine how long he is going to be out for. Man City were always in complete control and really showed their superiority with their 24 shots compared to West Brom's 9, the only downside from City's point of view will be that they didn't keep a clean sheet.

Everton 0-2 Liverpool, Goodison Park

Steven-Gerrard-Liverpool-Middlesbrough-Premie_1137431.jpg

Liverpool ensured that their Merseyside neighbours poor start to the season continued as they cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win to silence the Everton faithful. Liverpool dominated from start to finish in the 214th Merseyside derby, going ahead by Mr. Liverpool Steven Gerrard by doing what he does so often a 30-yard screamer after just 16 minutes. Gerrard had the chance to make it 2 with a penalty but saw his effort saved by Toffees keeper Tim Howard. However Liverpool did get their 2nd but this time it was through Dirk Kuyt as the Dutchman just placed the ball in the bottom left corner just out of Howard’s reach from a Meireles cross on the half-hour mark. 2-0 at half-time. The 2nd half evened itself out a little with chances at both ends first Torres hitting the post then Tim Cahill heading just narrowly wide. As tempers raised towards the end of the game you could tell this was no ordinary game with 6 yellow cards in the 2nd half, even the fans were hurling insults at each other. Liverpool continued their good start to the season sitting in 2nd place only behind leaders Arsenal on goal difference winning 3 out of 3 games.

Sunderland 1-3 Arsenal, Stadium Of Light

robin-van-persie-arsenal-jersey.jpg

Arsenal overcame a resilient Sunderland side to maintain their 100% start to the season. A double from Robin Van Persie inspired Arsenal to victory. Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas got his side off to a flyer by scoring a terrific curling shot with the outside of his foot after just 2 minutes. Cultured striker Robin Van Persie doubled Arsenal’s lead with an absolute fluke just 4 minutes after Fabregas’ opener, the Dutch striker then got his 2nd of the game on 23 minutes by coolly netting a side-footed finish from an Eden Hazard cross. Centre back Thomas Vermaelen making his first start of the season was then sent off on 36 minutes for a rash tackle on Jordan Henderson. Arsenal played the 2nd half with 10 men and were starting to get stretched at the back and Sunderland were applying a lot of pressure and finally got a goal that they deserved on 70 minutes through Asamoah Gyan as he scored a well-timed finish from close range. Life is looking up for the Gunners as they sit 1st with 3 wins out of 3.

Arsenal 3-1 Fulham
Van Persie (33,34), Emmanuel Thomas (72) - Hughes (82)

arsenal-robin-van-persie-2011.jpg

Two flashes of genius from Robin Van Persie nudged Arsenal on their way to a 3-1 win at the Emirates and making sure that the Gunners still lay top of the Premier League. Van Persie opened the scoring on 33 minutes through a lovely chipped shot from the edge of the area, Fulham had defended terrifically for that opening half an hour. Fulham then gave themselves a mountain to climb as Van Persie got his 2nd of the game just under a minute after he had opened the scoring, for the second he blasted in one of those fierce left foot shots that flew past Mark Schwarzer in the Fulham goal, 2-0 at half-time. Fulham improved defensively after the break but still couldn’t stop Arsenal’s players darting through their defence. Jay Emmanuel-Thomas got the 3rd goal which was his 2nd of the season after Eden Hazard darted through the Fulham defence to take the ball round Schwarzer before laying it off to Emmanuel-Thomas to tap the ball in, Fulham did grab themselves a consolation goal as Aaron Hughes leapt above Gael Clichy to send the ball past Rene Adler, who was making his debut in the Arsenal goal after joining the Gunners for £15 million from Bayer Leverkusen.

Aston Villa 4-2 Blackburn
Bent(17), Cuellar(56), Miller (60,82) - Biram Diouf (89), Rodallega (90+1)

Darren-Bent-Aston-Villa-Premier-League-PA_2554090.JPG

A vibrant Aston Villa side got their season back on track by securing a comfortable 4-2 win over Blackburn. Striker Darren Bent gave Villa the lead with a placed shot in the 17th minute. Centre-back Carlos Cuellar doubled the lead with a fine-header from point blank range on 56 minutes. An error from Blackburn’s left back Gael Givet allowed striker Kenny Miller to score a freak goal with Blackburn complaining for hand ball but nothing was given. Miller then added his 2nd of the game with a well struck shot from just inside the penalty area on 82 minutes. Aston Villa managed to survive a late scare as the visitors scored 2 goals in 2 minutes, first it was Man Utd loanee Mame Biram Diouf with a placed shot on 89 minutes, then new signing Hugo Rodallega fired in a header from a Brett Emerton corner in stoppage time.

Bolton 1-1 Sunderland
Lee Chung-Yong (81) - Welbeck (18)

119216hp2.jpg

After a 1-1 draw at the Reebok stadium, a key member of the Bolton side claimed that his team were fortunate to escape this match with a draw. On loan Sunderland striker Danny Welbeck gave the Black Cats the lead in the 18th minute with a fierce shot. From then on it was one of the most boring matches I have ever seen, the only thing that is worth mentioning is the Bolton equaliser coming from Lee Chung-Yong in the 81st minute with a deftly executed finish.

Chelsea 4-0 Blackpool
Zhirkov (18), Lampard (26, Pen 44), Pastore (60)

Frank+Lampard+Chelsea+v+Aston+Villa+Premier+B1OhKZZuRmal.jpg

Chelsea had their midfield to thank on a hard and bouncy surface at Stamford Bridge as they showed their strikers how to finish. A double from Frank Lampard inspired Chelsea to victory. Things did not get off to a good start for Blackpool as winger Yuri Zhirkov seized on an error by Luke Varney to score an incisive finish. Lampard relishing the chance at being back in the side (but playing in a more deeper role instead of attacking midfielder) doubled Chelsea’s advantage with a neat finish after some tidy footwork to slot the ball past Richard Kingston. Lampard then got his second of the game after Neil Eardley gave away a penalty on the stroke of half-time by taking out Zhirkov’s legs, sending the keeper the wrong way. 3-0 at half-time. £50 million signing Javier Pastore completed the rout getting his head on a Ramires cross on the hour mark.

Liverpool 1-0 Wolves
Meireles (79)

102899748ap015_wolverhampto.jpg

Liverpool showed their superiority in a 1-0 win over Wolves at
Anfield, but they could have and scored more, Matt Jarvis was facing his former club after leaving Wolves to join Liverpool for £7.5 million in the summer and as expected was given a hostile reception. Liverpool dominated the match in every area but just couldn’t find the back of the net. Raul Meireles saved Liverpool on 79 minutes as he scored a wonderful chipped shot from outside the box, Meireles’ goal kept up Liverpool’s 100% record and lay 2nd only behind Arsenal on goal difference.

Man Utd 5-2 West Ham
Rooney(3), Vidic (35,73), Valencia (49), Fletcher (58) - Noble (6), Parker (16)

Nemanja+Vidic+Manchester+United+v+Aston+Villa+sg7IUVkrQzTl.jpg

An efficient performance from last years runners-up Man Utd, saw their players comfortably overcome a lacklustre West Ham side. Utd striker Wayne Rooney got his side off to a flyer by scoring a finish that was executed with aplomb on 3 minutes. Mark Noble then equalised for West Ham in the 6th minute with a thumping long range free-kick. West Ham captain Scott Parker then put the away side in front after 16 minutes with a real poachers effort. Nemanja Vidic then drew Man Utd level as he seized on a Sotiris Kyrgiakos mistake to score a fine header from point blank range. Antonio Valencia then took advantage of yet another West Ham defensive error this time it was Wayne Bridge as Valencia raced clear to slot the ball past Robert Green. Newly appointed Scotland captain Darren Fletcher made it 4 on 58 minutes with a nice tidy finish from a Ryan Giggs roll back. Vidic then completed the rout as he yet again popped up from a corner to head home.
Newcastle 3-2 Tottenham
Jonas (3,73), Tiote (37) - Adebayor (6), Bale (30)

article-1255954-0899831B000005DC-73_468x286.jpg

In what was an end to end game full with goals, it was Newcastle who in the end secured a 3-2 win over Tottenham at St. James Park. Argentinean Jonas got Newcastle off to a flyer by scoring a tidy finish past Carlo Cudicini in for the injured Gomes. Tottenham’s loan signing Emmanuel Adebayor then equalised for Tottenham in the 6th minute with a well executed finish. Welsh superstar Gareth Bale then put the away side infront right on the half hour mark with a close range header. Newcastle’s anchor man Cheik Tiote put the newly promoted side level with an effort from the edge of the area which curled past the goalkeeper. Jonas then got his second of the night which turned out to be the winner 15 minutes from time with a well placed finish which was timed impeccably.

Stoke 2-2 Birmingham
Heskey (50), Pennant (75)- Jerome (21), Bowyer (84)

0,,12306~9216597,00.jpg

Ricardo Fuller was the focus of the media as his new club Birmingham drew with Stoke, Fuller’s former club. Explosive striker Cameron Jerome continued his fine start to the season when he gave Birmingham the lead with a well struck shot from inside the box on 21 minutes. Emile Heskey then equalised for Stoke, the former Villa man struck in the 50th minute with a powerful effort. Jermaine Pennant then put the Potter’s ahead with a cross-slash shot which caught Ben Foster out and it floated into the top corner. Birmingham’s equaliser came from a man who does it so often for the Blues as he darted his way through the heart of the Stoke defence to side foot the ball past Thomas Sorensen with just 5 minutes remaining.

West Brom 0-3 Everton
Arteta (20), Baines (50), Distin (67)

Tottenham+Hotspur+1+Everton+1+Rafael+van+der+Vaart+cancels+out+Leighton+Baines%27+free-kick+2.jpg

West Brom failed to cause an upset at the Hawthorns as Everton coasted to a very comfortable 3-0 victory. Flamboyant midfielder Mikel Arteta gave Everton the lead with a shot from 18 yards out in the 20th minute. Full-back Leighton Baines doubled Everton’s lead with a thunderous free-kick from the edge of the area just after half-time. Experienced centre-back Sylvain Distin completed the rout with a good diving header from close range on 67 minutes.

Wigan 0-5 Man City
Tevez (17,86), Kompany (33), Hulk (36), Dzeko (80)

Carlos+Tevez+Manchester+City+v+Wolverhampton+h5tbLYwreaIl.jpg

Wigan were absolutely hammered by a Man City, a performance like real champions, as their miserable start to the season continued. City’s star striker Carlos Tevez gave his side the lead with a fierce shot which went off the post in the 17th minute. Solid centre-back Vincent Kompany doubled City’s lead with a close range header just after the half hour mark. Hulk carried on City’s onslaught with a well timed finish from close range, 3-0 at half-time. Wigan improved dramatically in the second half but still couldn’t stop 2 more goals against them, Edin Dzeko capitalised on the Latic’s captain David Wheater to score from close range. There were no prizes for guessing who completed the rout on 86 minutes as that man Tevez popped up again as he so often does netting his 5th league goal of the season.

This feature is a little round-up of how the clubs i am controlling did in the Champions League this week, overall a very mixed week for English sides.

Tottenham 1-4 Real Madrid
Lennon (18) - Ronaldo (Pen 3), Higuain (7,32), Di Maria (44)

Heurelho_Gomes_1844955c.jpg

Tottenham were welcomed to the Champions League but not in a good way as they were thumped 4-1 by Spanish giants Real Madrid. It was a day to forget for Rafael Van Der Vaart as he suffered a heavy defeat to his former club, a brace from Gonzalo Higuain set Real Madrid on their way to victory. Real Madrid started like a steamroller and were rewarded after Michael Dawson brought down Mesut Ozil just in the penalty area, Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up and comfortably slotted past Gomes. The Spanish side carried on their dominate start and were 2-0 up after 7 minutes through Higuain. After a shaky start Tottenham had a nice little spell in which they got themselves right back into the game as Aaron Lennon beat Iker Casillas to a through ball from Luka Modric. Higuain added his 2nd of the game with a placed shot. Winger Angel Di Maria completed the rout just before half-time with a well struck effort. Ex-Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho was sent off for a professional foul 5 minutes from time, but overall not a good start to Tottenham’s Champions League campaign and will be looking to bounce back away at FC Kobenhavn in their next Champions League game.

Shakhtar Donetsk 3-3 Chelsea
Jadson (11), Devic (85), Costa (89) - Pastore (52), Sturridge (60), Kalou (81)

article-1026759-019F811500000578-613_468x323.jpg
Marko Devic played the part of super-sub for Shakhtar as they grabbed a unlikely 3-3 draw against Premier League champions Chelsea on a fine summers evening at the Donbas Arena. Flamboyant midfielder Jadson gave Shakhtar the lead with a powerful effort in the 11th minute. Jadson then had the chance to increase Shakhtar’s lead further but he missed from the penalty spot just before half-time it was a great save from Petr Cech. Chelsea’s new £50 million signing Javier Pastore then equalised for Chelsea in the 52nd minute with a well struck shot from just outside the box which hit the woodwork before hitting the back of the net. Youngster Daniel Sturridge put the away side in-front on the hour mark with an incisive finish. An error from Shakhtar’s Andriy Pyatov allowed Salomon Kalou to score with a fierce shot. Then Ashley Cole made a mistake which was capitalised on by Devic to give Shakhtar real hope going into the last 5 minutes. Then with time rapidly running out, midfielder Douglas Costa then scored a tidy finish to make it 3-3,a very disappointing result for Chelsea.

Man Utd 6-2 Panathinaikos
Anderson (18), Rooney (28,41,47), Berbatov (33), Nani (54) - Karagounis (Pen 25), Sarriegi (85)

Wayne-Rooney-and-Nani-by-Javier-Garcia.jpg

In an 8-goal thriller at Old Trafford, Man Utd ran out 6-2 winners against a poor Panathinaikos side, the highlight of the game has to be a hat-trick from Wayne Rooney. Enthusiastic midfielder Anderson gave Utd the lead after 18 minutes, the away side then equalised after Ganso brought down Karagounis, Karagounis dusted himself down and sent Van Der Sar the wrong way. Wayne Rooney capitalised on a Panathinaikos error to smash the ball home. Berbatov then made it 3-1 with an absolute fluke of a goal just after the half hour mark. Rooney then got his 2nd of the game with a diving header from inside the 6-yard area, Rooney completed his hat-trick just after half-time with a scrappy goal which he bundled in. Nani made it 6-1 on 55 minutes as he powered an absolute peach curling into he top right hand side corner. Experienced centre-back Josu Sarriegi managed to pull one back for Panathinaikos as he headed it past Van Der Sar, 6-2 the final score, a comfortable win and this will surely give them a massive confidence boost.

Arsenal 5-1 Valencia
Wilshere (7), Van Persie (13,42), Chamberlain (74), Emmanuel-Thomas (83) - Mata (62)

wpid-Jack-Wilshere-thinks-winning-the-Carling-Cup-could-be-the-catalyst-for-further-silverware-at-Arsenal.jpg

In what had been billed as a close encounter, Valencia were thrashed 5-1 by Arsenal at the Emirates. Wonderkid Jack Wilshere got Arsenal off to a flyer by scoring a well-timed finish on 7 minutes. An error from Valencia’s Vicente Guatia allowed Robin Van Persie to score a well struck effort. Van Persie added his 2nd of the game on the stroke of half-time with a magnificent lob over the keeper. Flamboyant midfielder Juan Mata pulled one back for the Spanish side just after the hour mark with a deftly executed finish from close range. Alex Chamberlain then become the youngest ever Champions League scorer by scoring his 1st goal for Arsenal with 15 minutes remaining with a real poachers effort. Midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas made it 5 on 83 minutes with a long range drive from the edge of the area keeping up his 3 goals with 3 substitute appearances, a good solid win with an even better performance to go with it.
