Aberdeen Save 2022

January

Fixtures
Fix.png

4 Domestic wins. Needed a 2nd half comeback in the Scottish Cup against Dundee Utd but we knocked out a big beast.

SPL
SPL.png

Despite only dropping 2 points all season Celtic are only 10 points behind so they can't let up and risk playing youth players. Top 6 look set already with Hearts having a miserable season as are Ross County despite strong investment they look to be in a bad way with Queens Park only 2 years removed from the Champions League groups down in 11th. How long till Maciver breaks his record goals haul of 55 goals?

Champions League

We needed 2 wins to secure a top 8 finish and we did it in a decisive manner

Final Table
CL Table.png

The Dons make the top 8 but needed that last 2 wins. Celtic, Dundee Utd & Hearts all made the playoffs. Roma & Ajax are the big sides to go out.

Fixtures
Fix.png

It's our most dominant 2 month spell ever. MacIver has broken the scoring record and its impossible to say how high he's going to set the bar

SPL
SPL.png

We won't have the perfect season but it's going to be our strongest season over. The top 2 look set. Rangers vs Hibs for 4th looks the most exciting battle. Even the bottom 2 look set

CL Last 16 2.png

16 sides only contributed 15 goals in the 1st leg and we scored none! Loosing to former final opponents Leipzig. Like Celtic we turned it around in the second leg although we left it very late

Dundee Utd & Hearts lost by the odd goal in the playoff

Scotland

Two easy wins in this joke of a group.

April

Fixtures
Fix.png

3 Wins in the league secured the title once again. We beat 10 men Hibs to win the Scottish cup semi-final. Beating Rangers 8-0 was the cherry on top

SPL
SPL.png

Rangers, Hibs and maybe even Motherwell are keeping Dundee Utd. We might even see the team in 7th fail to catch the 6th place team on points. Ross County are all but gone. Anyone's guess from 8th-11th who goes into the playoffs

Champions League
Quarter Finals

CL1.png

It was a bad first leg after we had the lead and ended up being lucky to hold on while down to 10 men

Both Scottish sides come from behind and will face off in the Semi Final

CL1.png

We couldn't turn them over at Parkhead making plenty of work for the second leg yet again

We make it back to the final but only just. It was into the 2nd half before we took the tie level then with extra time looking the two substitute wingers combined to win the match, tie and bring us into another final. This our 2nd with Man City and it will be at Old Trafford.

End of Season 27

SPL - Winner
SPL.png

17th title in a row. The dream of a perfect season ended early and annoyingly as we won every game up to the end of the season till the last game where we were resting players for the 6th game in a row.
Celtic had the best non Aberdeen season in 15 years. Could they be a few steps away from challenging? The Champions League matches suggest they may be while relegating Dundee Utd to being the 3rd team in Scotland.

Hibs beat Rangers to the final Champions League spot which led to them firing their manager and be joined by Motherwell while Kilmarnock had a fantastic end to the season beating the disappointment of the season Hearts to the final European spot

Queens Park spent most of the season in the playoff spot where they finished and the same can be said for Ross County and the bottom spot which is a shock considering how strong they are. Finally, they will be joined by my local neighbours Cove after 9 seasons of investment costing me over £100m they have finally arrived.

Playoffs
Queens Park 5-3 Hamilton
SPL PLayoff.png

Poor Hamilton will forever be stuck in a playoff final it seems

Managers
Ross Countys change did nothing for their problems while my former u19 player and coach Alfie Stewart has made a steady start at St Mirren. Ely Jardim did what he could with the rotten ship at Ibrox that had nothing to do with him and i think they will only be worse without him next season.

Europe
Celtic had their best season in Europe for a long time beating us in a Champions League Semi Final before we only just turned it around in the 2nd leg.
Dundee Utd fell in the CL Knockout round once again
Hibs also fell at the CL Knockout round
Hearts also fell at the Europa Knockout round
Queens Park got a 2nd season in Europe and only lost in the Conference quarter finals on penalties
Kilmarnock's unscheduled trip to the Europa League saw a strong showing in getting to the knockout phase.

Squad Review

Goalkeeper
Squad GK.png

Only one keeper Joe Lawrie with 63 games

Defence
Squad Def.png

Cummings who will be 36 when the season starts is starting to fail and with over 1000 games for me with Scotland & Aberdeen in the 20 years. Will probably see fewer games next season and definitely fewer minutes. Any of the gang of backups could start. Wingers are the same as per

Midfield
Squad Midf.png

Petkov is also climbing the age barrier like Cummings will be 36 early on next season but he is still performing at a top level but backup Vieira has eclipsed him. The trio of Alvarez, Villegas & Memedi Kept Berry's minutes down but i'd like him to be starting by now. The left wing would be set but Piepenbrock wants a move and that is likely if we get a decent bid.

Attack
Squad ATT.png

MacIver took out every ounce of anger at loosing his top scorer spot last season by destroying every record known to the club. Craig & Burbano rotated the 2nd spot with Marini as a back up was tremendous.

Season 28
Aberdeen 2049

The Dons won a record-breaking 11th Champions League in a row, 13 in total. We are only 2 behind Real Madrid now. Yes, i am just copying and pasting it at this point. For the 7th season in a row, my sole focus of the season is a perfect season in the SPL. It's embarrassing that I've never managed this before and with MacIver now in his 30s and two players in their late 30s we don't have much time left

Squad

Goalkeepers
Squad GKs.png

Lawrie will remain no1 but we have a big upgrade in backup keeper in Ferreira who joined for free in the summer

Defence
Squad dc.png

Wingbacks are class and both in their prime. Cummings is 36 but his long-term replacement is found in Kassim Ahamed. ******* still keeps his starting spot. McDougall will be his main backup this season with the other defenders wanting to go out on loan.

Midfield
Squad MC.png

Few changes in the midfield. Petkov & Vieira are now splitting time on the right. Piepenbrock asked for a move and felt £313m was a fair value to accept. Clearly, nobody agreed. Jordan MacIntyre is the player looking to break past the 3 superstars and Scotland 2nd best player Gordon Berry

Attack
Squad Att.png

The front two will stay the same but due to Piepenbrocks injury im carrying an extra striker since Marini is able to play left wing. At least 1 of these players won't be with us next season.

Out
Out.png

Our main sale was Center Back Neta Buzorgi. I needed to clear up the centre-back position so i moved on to the first player i got an overvalued deal for. The Norwegian connection KJelstad & Langfjord both had the potential to be starters for us but got lost in the mix. Mike Thomas was a great backup LB but was not going to sign a new deal so Villa got a bargain. The rest never advanced from the reserves or loans
