Season 2012-13: A New Chapter
After a successful first season in charge for manager Chris Saunt, He now begins life in League 1 with new players, a new stadium and a new league to get used to.
First of all the move into The Rotherham Community Stadium is a big occasion in itself but the first visitors will be fierce rivals Sheffield Wednesday on the opening day of the season followed by an away trip to Wednesday in the League Cup just 3 days later. The new capacity is 12000 and an increase in average attendances is expected beating a 3800 average last year. Postponed matches against Oxford last season could be a thing of the past but there is no under-soil heating at the new stadium so still alot of work to do for the ground staff this winter.
Many voices around Rotherham expect this season to be far from a relegation battle with the new signings that have been made. There is an increase in class and numbers at the back after losing Conrad Logan and James Tavernier who were on loan last season.
Expected Defence
Butland
Vincelot Jones McGivern Kennedy
In midfield there has been 2 notable signings. The first is new vice-captain James Harper from Hull City. Previously of Reading's impressive Premier League side a few years ago. A ball winner in midfield and much needed experience. The second a prospect for the future with Charlie Barnett coming in from Accrington Stanley.
Expected Midfield
Revell Woods Harper Schofield
Upfront has been rocked by the news that Lewis Grabban is injured for the first 2 months of the season and he will no doubt be missed. New signing Gregory Tade from Inverness CT scored 13 goals in the SPL last season and is some what of a coup for Rotherham. Max Clayton has been brought in which has excited fans with having such a bright prospect on their books. Chris Holroyd is expected to leave by the end of the transfer window but Kelvin Etuhu is expected to stay after reportedly making up with manager Chris Saunt.
Expected Strikers
Tade Etuhu
