FEBRUARY

Athletic Bilbao 7 (Muniain 15, 28, Balenziaga 20, Griezmann 24, 67, Llorente 65, Alvaro og80)
Granada 1 (Keko 90)

Ruffier returned from injury here but he didnt have much to do. We had a goal disallowed also. Guillermo got 4 assists.

--

Sevilla 1 (Dzeko 1)
Athletic Bilbao 4 (Benat 27, Llorente 30, Laporte 52, San Jose 67)

Considering I forgot to do a team talk and we fell behind after 40sec this was a great result.

--

Real Valladolid 2 (Kozak 50, 79)

Athletic Bilbao 5 (Llorente 9pen, Griezmann 11, 28, Muniain 15, Laporte 73)

Thats 16 goals in our last 3 league games - we are on fire!!!

--

UEFA Europa League 1st Round 1st Leg
Viktoria Plzen 2 (Chlup 33, Bakos 77)
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Iker 76, Susaeta 83)

I fielded a backup side here and though I was disappointed with the result I am confident we can get the job done in the 2nd leg.

--

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Muniain 16, 66, Llorente 63pen)
Malaga 0

SUMMARY

A fine month as we pretty much destroyed every one of our opponents apart from Viktoria Plzen but if I fielded a full strength side against them we probably would have scored half a dozen more lol.

I agreed to sell Borja Ekiza at the end of the season so that will open up a space for one of my B team players to make the step up next season. Bragana, Mere and Velasco are the leading contenders.

MARCH

UEFA Europa League 1st Round 2nd Leg
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Garrido 39, Nilsson og41)
Viktoria Plzen 0
(Athletic Bilbao win 4-2 on aggregate)

Through we go to face Zenit in the next round.

--

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Inigo Martinez 8, Llorente 45, Guillermo 88)
Villarreal 2 (Altidore 35, Moi Gomez 78)

An entertaining game. Both sides missed a penalty, Azpilicueta got sent-off for the 3rd time this season but that couldnt stop us as Guillermo struck a late winner.

--

Celta Vigo 1 (Alberto 33)
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Guillermo 32, Balenziaga 51)

We had 15 attempts but believe it or not we were 2nd best here as Celta somehow had 24 efforts!!! We had a goal disallowed here also.

--

Alaves 2 (Porcar 1, Emeghara 45)

Athletic Bilbao 4 (Guillermo 2, Muniain 10, Llorente 34pen, 70)

--

UEFA Europa League 2nd Round 1st Leg

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Iker 68, 79, Susaeta 90)
Zenit St. Petersburg 1 (Witsel 9)

I am delighted with this result as I expected Zenit to be a tough test for my backups but they did a fine job.

--

Athletic Bilbao 2 (Llorente 36, 70)
Barcelona 2 (Messi 56, Casasola 89)

A decent result but obviously I was disappointed to concede a late equaliser.

--

UEFA Europa League 2nd Round 2nd Leg
Zenit St. Petersburg 1 (Shatov 51)
Athletic Bilbao 1 (Garrido 79)
(Athletic Bilbao win 4-2 on aggregate)

I am so proud of my backups here as they didnt cave in despite being camped in our own half for most of the match.

--

Athletic Bilbao 2 (Griezmann 57, Guillermo 90)

Levante 0

A good win but Nieto got injured and is out for 4-5 months. He is becoming a bit injury prone unfortunately.

SUMMARY

I am very happy with this month. On the field everything was great as we have pretty much secured the title and we are also closing in on the Europa League as we have been drawn against CSKA Moscow in the next round.

The main source of my happiness though was in the youth intake as we got several decent prospects and 3 standouts. No Aitor's in there but this was my best intake so far by a long way.

ENGLAND

Friendly
England 5 (Thorne 16, Hughes 18, Barkley 33, Rooney 40, Zaha 63)
Tunisia 1 (Nouioui 38)

LINEUP - Gilchrist, Clyne (Chambers), Thorne*, Caulker, Shaw, Hughes (Carroll), Wilshere (Ward-Prowse), Oxlade-Chamberlain (Welbeck), Zaha, Barkley (Keen), Rooney (Kane)

Callum Chambers, Thomas Carroll, Harry Kane and Peter Gilchrist (a regen) made their international debuts here.

Your new CB would be amazing if it wasn't for his '3' in marking...still looks good though!

Alastuey looks class mate, agree with the marking issue, but I rekon a long term replacement for Azpilicueta. Always my fav time of the year. Iker & Guillermo are coming along nicely. Cant be too much longer until the next Aitor shows up. Good to see Messi having a shocker of a season with less than 8.0 average rating :p

Now begins the best part of this save when regens start shining. Good luck!

Athletic Bilbao 0

We were outplayed here but escaped with a draw. Ruffier saved a late penalty for us too.

--

Almeria 2 (Suarez 1, 11pen)
Athletic Bilbao 6 (Llorente 4, 71, Griezmann 19, Muniain 38, Herrera 43, Guillermo 52)

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Garrido 13, Ibai Gomez 51, 84)
CSKA Moscow 2 (Fierro 19, Dzagoev 41)
(Athletic Bilbao win 3-2 on aggregate)

What a game. Both sides had a man sent-off in the first half and we were behind at half-time but Ibai Gomez struck twice in the 2nd half to book our spot in the semis.

--

Athletic Bilbao 5 (Llorente 23, 44, 48, Guillermo 62, Muniain 75)
Real Sociedad 1 (Prieto 5)

We were fantastic here and could have scored 10 such was our dominance.

Alcorcon 0
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Benat 28, Inigo Martinez 77)

--

UEFA Europa League SF 1st Leg
Borussia Monchengladbach 2 (Rafinha 53, Werner 89)

SUMMARY

This month saw us clinch another Liga BBVA title and have one foot in the Europa League final. We are playing some nice stuff and the Europa League campaign has really helped my youngsters by getting more starts and experience.

I have began to plan for next season too and have some ideas in my head for future changes. Andoni Iraola however cant take a hint and retire!!! He wouldnt accept a coaching only contract but did take a ?20k a week paycut to become a player coach.

MAY - END OF SEASON

UEFA Europa League SF 2nd Leg
Athletic Bilbao 4 (Llorente 42, Griezmann 52, 59, Guillermo 80)
Borussia Monchengladbach 2 (Firmino 37, Rafinha 73)
(Athletic Bilbao win 8-4 on aggregate)

Into the final we go where we will face Everton who beat Spurs in the other semi.

--

Real Madrid 4 (Ronaldo 13, 22, El Shaarawy 59, 61)
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Llorente 29, Laporte 42, Garrido 72)

Only our second defeat of the season in the league this.

--

Athletic Bilbao 0
Sporting Gijon 0

A horrible result and performance and the first time we fail to score in the league this season. I did play some 16y/o players though.

--

Real Betis 1 (Victor 50)
Athletic Bilbao 1 (Sebas 42)

Bad news - Messi scored 4 goals to overtake Llorente in the top scorers chart!

--

UEFA Europa League Final
Athletic Bilbao 4 (Muniain 6, Guillermo 37, 79, Llorente 45)
Everton 1 (Pedro 60)

Always nice to win a final so comfortably. Llorente even had a goal disallowed.

--

Athletic Bilbao 2 (Iker 45, Laporte 51)
Atletico Madrid 1 (Diego Costa 49)

I would have liked to have played my youngsters more here but I had to field a strong side to give Llorente a chance to get the golden boot - to no avail.

SUMMARY

A decent finale to the season. We easily won the Europa League final by stuffing Everton 4-1. Hopefully we will never have to grace the competition again although it was great for my younger players and their development.

In the league we let things slip a little but that was mainly down to my team selections. Unfortunately Llorente got pipped by Messi to get the Golden Boot award.

I will post a season review and then it will all be about England in the 2018 World Cup (better not win it!!!)

END OF SEASON REVIEW

An interesting season with plenty of ups and downs and surprises thrown in for good measure!! Domestically we excelled in the league as expected and pretty much blew everyone out of the water. Although we scored 5 less than last season we pretty much ran riot in games with Fernando Llorente scoring tons and being ably supported by the likes of Guillermo, Muniain, Griezmann, Herrera and err Laporte!! lol

The Copa del Rey was a non event as we went out in the early rounds to Barcelona but we did manage to win the Super Cup.

In the Champions League we surprisingly crashed out at the group stages. We were in a tough group but just didnt get the rub of the green needed in the big games and out we went. The silver lining however was the Europa League. With the level of opposition slightly lower I used this competition to give my youngsters plenty of game time and they took their chance and impressed me greatly. The big guns came out for the semis and the final though and we cruised it in the end.

There will be a couple of players leaving in the summer (3 have been arranged to go already) while I will hardly call upon Iraola next season so I will be injecting some new blood into the squad.......

My youth team won everything they competed in and my B team couldnt manage to retain their title in the Liga Adelante but did finish in a play-off position so still had a strong season.

I would be seriously upset with this result but not with England - cant do to well as a proud Scotsman and I am sure Aitor has Scottish blood in him somewhere lol

NOOOOOO!!! To be fair this was a great effort against one of the strongest sides left in the competition. We nicked the lead through Jones who promptly got himself sent-off by giving away the penalty from which they equalised but supersub Harry Kane struck the winner.

Make no mistake
I DO NOT WANT TO WIN THE WORLD CUP WITH ENGLAND. Yet i refuse to sabotage the campaign as I accept that a lot of my followers are English and they would like to see a true campaign.

Spain 1-2 France

FIFA World Cup Final

England 4 (Barkley 2, 18, Zaha 35, Shaw 45)
France 0

Lineup -
Hart, Clyne, Jones, Chalobah, Shaw, Hughes (Thorne), Wilshere, Zaha, Oxlade-Chamberlain (Curle), Barkley*, Keen (Rooney)

**** RIGHT OFF!!!! They had a man sent-off early on. I feel dirty as a Scotsman but pleased for Aitor!

HAHAHAHA! Oh the irony, a scotsman controlling a spaniard absolutely destroying the competition on the way to winning the worlds biggest sporting event for the english... beautifull ;)

You probably went all out in the team talk - giving an emotional speech about how you wanted to stay true to your Scottish roots and urged them to throw the game.....and then they steamrolled the French.

AITOR HERRERA APPOINTED AS THE NEW BRAZIL MANAGER

I had to leave England and because Spain did a decent job they didnt sack their manager so I was left to choose between Brazil, Portugal and Argentina. Brazil were willing to pay me ?60k a week which was 40k more than Portugal so I took the Brazil job.

PRE-SEASON

A few changes for the new season ahead as I took the decision to sell a few of my trusted soldiers!!!

Not much else is to be said as I was busy winning the World Cup but the board have agreed to expand the stadium by 8,000 so our capacity will be 60,000.

--

PLAYERS IN

Levante were the main beneficaries of our summer spending as my 2 most expensive signings came from them. The most expensive was the 5.75m I paid for LB Javier Gonzalez. He looks as though he will turn into a beast of a player and will be a speed demon.
View attachment 386543

Jorge Cenzual was brought in for 2.7m
View attachment 386542

These were brought in for a pittance.
View attachment 386541View attachment 386540

I tried to bring in Jorge Espericueta for 10m but he joined Borussia Dortmund instead.

--

PLAYERS OUT

I received 7.75m from Toulouse for Mikel Balenziaga. He made 211 appearances for me and scored 10 times. I felt that Rubio was ready to become first choice last season but I had no backup but with the arrival of Gonzalez that changed things.

Benat is also gone as he joined PSV Eindhoven for 5.25m. He played 200 times and scored 42 goals for me and was pretty good but with the quality of young CMs I have at my disposal I felt as though I had to cash in on the 31y/o Benat.

Borja Ekiza left for Celta Vigo for 1.5m and made 84 apps and scored 17 goals. I tried to sell him last summer but out he went this time.

--

SUMMARY

A few changes as expected. Promoted to the first team is Raul Galan, Raul Alastuey and Daniel Zaldivar. They are to replace Benat, Ekiza and Iraola - who I have put into the U19 side as he is now 36y/o and although he may play occasionally I want him to concentrate on his coaching - in the squad.

After Guillermo's excellent showing last season he is now a first team regular.

This will be my first team.....

Ruffier

Rubio - Laporte - Inigo Martinez - Azpilicueta

RDG - Herrera

Muniain (LW) - Guillermo - Griezmann (RW)

Llorente

AUGUST

Athletic Bilbao 2 (Llorente 21, Griezmann 69)
Atletico Madrid 1 (Dezotti 1)

A decent win to kick start the season - especially since Laporte got sent-off early in the 2nd half.

Spanish Super Cup 1st Leg
Barcelona 4 (Insigne 4, Neymar 22, Inigo Martinez og72, Sanchez 79)
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Musacchio og50, Llorente 57)

We were doing ok until Azpilicueta got sent-off.

--

Espanyol 2 (Okoro 18pen, Suarez 90)
Athletic Bilbao 4 (Guillermo 14, Muniain 27, Llorente 29, Ayala og45)

We only had 4 shots on target so to score 4 goals is pretty pleasing.

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Llorente 16pen, Zaldivar 29, Griezmann 85)
Barcelona 1 (Neymar 90pen)

SUMMARY

This month was pretty hectic. We collected 2 trophies, had 3 sending offs, injured players and I had to settle in as Brazil manager!

On the field we have started off the league campaign strongly enough with victories over Atletico Madrid and Espanyol while we managed to overturn a 2 goal deficit to win the Super Cup and edged out PSG in the Euro Super Cup.

We have been drawn against AS Monaco, Rubin Kazan and Benfica in the Champions League so I expect to top that group.

I sold a couple of B team players during the month. Unai Lopez (100k), Eneko Satrustegui (135k) and Jorge Mere (2.5m) have all gone. Mere can count himself unlucky not to have got more chances as he has developed well.

SUMMARY

We won every game this month but while we started off brilliantly our performances tailed off towards the end of the month although injuries and suspensions played a part in that.

Having said that I have faith that things will improve on the field both short and long term as in my first team squad I have no fewer than 11 teenagers and they wont get any worse will they?!!

SUMMARY

A great month as we stepped up a gear and Guillermo was at the heart of it all. He has been unbelievable this season and is 1st place at the moment in the league for goals, average rating and assists YET HE STILL ISNT GETTING CALLED UP FOR SPAIN!!!!!

What makes it all the more incredible is that he is playing at AMC and he doesnt have great stats for that position. His stats for me are perfect for the wing but I like my wingers to swap during the game and he cant play on the left hence why I play him in the centre.

NOVEMBER

Granada 2 (El Arabi 14, Keko 44)
Athletic Bilbao 4 (Griezmann 8, Iker 28, 67pen, Azpilicueta 39)

An entertaining match with 6 goals, 1 penalty and 2 sending-offs.

--

UEFA Champions League Group B
Athletic Bilbao 1 (Sebas 41)
AS Monaco 1 (Yarmolenko 39)

This point is enough for us to progress into the next round. Iker had a goal disallowed.

--

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Llorente 15, 22, Guillermo 90)
Barcelona 1 (Insigne 84)

A fine victory and it also opens up a 5pt gap over 2nd placed Barcelona.

--

Athletic Bilbao 2 (Griezmann 53, Gonzalez 87)
Real Madrid 1 (Illarramendi 57)

A fantastic result as we really grinded it out somehow. We traded a goal each but then Zaldivar got sent-off with 20min to go. They pressurised us but I thought we had nicked it when Llorente scored but it was disallowed. Herrera then hit the bar but Gonzalez tucked away the rebound to win it for us.

--
UEFA Champions League Group B
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Susaeta 21, Garrido 89pen)
Rubin Kazan 1 (Luiz Adriano 48)

This win means we will win the group - pretty boring match though.

SUMMARY

We werent at our best this month in terms of getting goals etc but considering we faced Barca, Real and Monaco that was maybe to be expected. We are 20pts clear of Real Madrid already which is quite something!!

SUMMARY

I was lazy this month (watching the Newcastle game) as I didnt do any press conferences and even missed a few team talks lol. We did ok however and despite having a few injuries we navigated our way through the month easily enough.

In the Champions League we will come up against CSKA Moscow while we will meet Real Betis in the Spanish Cup.

My B team are having another good season and are currently top of the Liga Adelante.
