Pre-Season Transfer Business

i2iBlog_JanTransferWindow.png

So we're in the 4th season now and realistically we should be looking at developing some of our young talent, that's why the objective of this window is to off-load some of the older players and pave way for the youth.

I'd also like to strengthen where necessary and hopefully add some good depth to the team.

Transfers Out

Sam-Byram_2837015.jpg

View attachment 313163View attachment 313162

English Right-Back Sam Byram has been sold to Fulham for a fee of £6,000,000. The Englishman has constantly been upset at his lack of first-team Football at St. James Park and has ultimately decided to leave the club with manager Paul Clement keen to move the youngster on.

Spanish striker Ayoze Perez has been sold to French side AS Monaco for a fee of £25,000,000. It is believed that the youngster wanted to make a return to Champions League Football and made strong conversation with manager Paul Clement regarding the situation. A fee was accepted by Newcastle and the striker has since completed his move to France.

View attachment 313163View attachment 313158

Dutch play-maker Vurnon Anita completed a switch to Stoke City during July, the play-maker has had a few exceptional seasons with the Toon but with Newcastle looking to develop Dele Alli and Adam Quinn it is believed that Anita's departure was purely down to paving way for the youth. The fee is believed to be around £8,500,000 for the 29 year old.

French veteran Yoan Gouffran was sold during the window to West Ham United for a fee of £2,000,000. Despite having two good seasons with the club the Frenchman is looking like a fringe player for the upcoming season and has thus been moved on by the North-Eastern club.

Total Income during the Pre-Season

French winger Florian Thauvin was signed by Newcastle from French side Olympique Marseille. The Frenchman has been a fringe player for the past two seasons but hasn't stopped impressing Newcastle manager Paul Clement who was keen to snap up the young winger. A fee of around £5,000,000 was agreed by the two clubs.

View attachment 313149View attachment 313163

Spanish striker Paco Alcácer also joins the Toon from Spanish side Valencia. The pacey forward was scouted by Newcastles staff throughout the previous campaign and with a price tag of only £15,000,000 Alcácer was soon snapped up by the Magpies to replace the outgoing Ayoze Perez.

kranevitter.jpg

View attachment 313146View attachment 313163

Argentinian Defensive Midfielder Matías Kranevitter left Brazilian side Fluminense to join up with fellow Argentine Gasón Gil Romero at Newcastle United. A fee of £6,000,000 was necessary to get the signature of the Midfield dynamo who is said to be excited to join the English club.

View attachment 313147View attachment 313163

Newcastle United have also confirmed the signing of Mexican right midfielder Hirving Lozano from Pachuca for a fee of £7,500,000 which is believed to have met the release clause of the youngster. Although he is said to leave his beloved club, Lozano is said to be very excited to join up with Paul Clement in England.

Chris-Smalling-010.jpg

View attachment 743129View attachment 313163

England Central Defender Chris Smalling has joined Newcastle United on loan until the end of the season. The defender has been struggling to break into United's first-team as of late and has thus decided to make a loan switch in an attempt to gain more minutes on the pitch. The fee is believed to be about £2
00,000 per month making it roughly £2,000,000 for the season.

Total Spent on Players:

£36,750,000

This concludes our transfer business for the season so far, and while I don't plan on adding many more players I am still trying to move a couple on. I'll post updates if any changes are made but for now I'm very happy with our squad, some bargains in there!

Feel free to ask if you'd like to see a screenshot for any of the players who were brought in/left the club.

Not a lot to talk about in this game, we opened our campaign for the season with a very bland 0-0 draw. But Selhurst Park is a tough place to go and with our new members of the squad still trying to blend in it will take some time. It's early days and I'm not too disappointed. Defensively we were very good and Hennessey made a wonderful diving save to keep out Florian Thauvin on the stroke of half time.

Bony (57,76), Fellaini (70)

This match was much more pleasing, I played a slightly rotated squad in order to keep things fresh but our players reacted very well and scored a few late goals to help us get a 3-0 win in the first-leg. I now feel fully confident of our chances to reach the group stage and am delighted with Bony's performance.

Hector O.G. (18), Bony (64)

We picked up our first win of the league season after overcoming newly promoted Burnley in a 2-0 victory, Bony was once again in the spotlight as he put in a brilliant performance as the lone striker. Remy Cabella was also a star turner in our team as he set-up both goals, I'm delighted with the result and hope we can build on this in future games.

Bony (45), Alli (50)

Another impressive away win in the Czech Republic saw us claim a 5-0 aggregate win in the Europa League play-off meaning our group stage qualification is complete. I'm delighted and very proud of the lads following this victory, we were superb.

Early days so there's not much to talk about, but in our 2 matches so far we've not conceded, in totality we haven't conceded in 6 matches which shows our defensive strengthening has paid off. I'm delighted with our start.

Here's a look at out results from the month, as you can see we've not conceded a single competitive goal so far, hopefully something we can build on going forwards.

View attachment 313118View attachment 313117

Long serving Newcastle defender Steven Taylor has today completed a transfer to Championship side MK Dons. Taylor, 31 is believed to have become frustrated at the limited amount of first-team Football and with the addition of Chris Smalling, Taylor has taken it upon himself to move down a division in a bid to play more minutes on the field. The fee is believed to be around £600,000.

Taylor has been a Newcastle United player since 2002 with his only move from the club being a loan spell at Wycombe Wanderers back in 2003/04.

Townsend Leaves Newcastle

View attachment 313118View attachment 313111

Andros Townsend has completed a deadline day move to Premier League side Southampton, the English winger has fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of Hirving Lazano and both parties agreed that a move was the players best bet of breaking back into the England squad ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

The fee agreed by the two clubs was £5,000,000.

Townsend, 26 only moved to St. James' Park from Tottenham last season but having failed to impress manager Paul Clement had found himself out of favour prior to his move.

I'm pleased and surprised to see us as a First Seed team, but delighted at the same time as it means we avoid all the big names, now let's crack on with the draw!

Greek side Panathonikos join us in Group F, very pleased to have avoided some of the big names such as Roma, Marseille and PSV. Let's see how the rest goes before I make my judgment.

And Now the Third Seeds

We're now joined by German side Augsburg, a side who did very well last year to gain qualification to Europe, certainly not one to take lightly.

And Finally, the Fourth Seed Teams

With French side Toulouse rounding off our group, that concludes the draw for the 2017 Europa League Group Stage.

Europa-League-1.jpg

e76b11eab6.jpg

Overall I think we have a good chance of progression from our group. We face travels to Greece, France and Germany but I'm confident on my boys. I think we can win the group.

It was exciting to be present for my teams first ever venture into the Europa League, not the club's but certainly mine during my managerial campaign. It was an experience, although nowhere near as tense as the Champions League draw. That room last year just stunk of fear.

Despite our expectation in the Europa League being set at reaching the First Knockout Round, I don't see why we can't win this tournament. Newcastle's last major trophy was a UEFA Cup back in 1969, how about another one?

Capital One Cup 3rd Round Draw

Newcastle United will face Tottenham Hotspur in the 3rd round of the Capital One Cup, the match will be played on Wednesday 27th September at 19:45pm.

A tough draw to kick off the cup..If we want to win this silverware we're gonna have to beat big teams along the way, looks like we have to start at the races!

Gil Romero (4), Emanuelson O.G. (14), Lozano (49), Bony (61)

A great way to start the month, an emphatic 4-0 win over Leicester City in which we dominated both on and off the ball. Great to see Lozano get his first goal for the club and Bony looks like he is set to continue his fine form.

Cornelius (31), Sarabia (56), Cabella (68), Alcácer (88)

Our great start to the season continues following a 3-1 win over Norwich City. We did however concede our first goal of the season from what was poor marking on the set piece, however I'm pleased to see the fighting spirit from our squad and am delighted to see Alcácer grab his first goal for the club.

Maupay (26), Spajic (49), Vincent O.G. (58)

A disappointing result as we fell to defeat in our opening Europa League group game to Toulouse. We didn't play well and ultimately I think we took Toulouse for granted, we'll learn from our mistakes and move on but the fact we lost a home game is particularly disappointing.

Aguero (14,17), Haidara (41), van Dijk (44)

A brilliant fightback just before half-time saw us come from 2-0 down to grab a point against Manchester City, after being behind by two after only 17 minutes I feared for the worst but the lads proved me wrong and dug deep. I'm absolutely delighted.

van Aken (27)

We finished the month with a 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the 3rd round of the Capital One Cup, with the draw being one of the more difficult picked from the hat I'm delighted that we've managed to progress. Tottenham had multiple chances but our defensive unit and more importantly Karl Darlow kept Spurs at bay with some fantastic saves/blocks, a brilliant defensive display!

With Augsburg and Toulouse both winning their opening games we have a lot of work to do if we're to qualify from this group, but I'm confident and hopeful that we can pull it out of the hat and escape the group stages.

Capital One Cup 4th Round Draw

Newcastle United will face West Ham United in the 4th round of the Capital One Cup, the match will be played on Wednesday 1st November at 19:45pm.

Another home draw which is definitely favourable to us, but West Ham are a great side and we'll do well to beat them, but I'm confident we can progress again!

Definitely, I feel I've got a much better squad heading into this season. Hopefully I can reclaim a top 4 finish!

Some nice transfers in and out there mate and a great start to the season!

Glad you agree! Really happy with the business we did, didn't wanna lose Ayoze but couldn't turn away a £25m bid, Paco Alcácer is a more than capable (If not better) replacement, and for only £15m!

I have a feeling mike ashley may of been reading this story, as ive heard/read rumours that paul is a contender for the newcastle job! Hopefully he can do as good a job!

Bony (4), Lascelles (17), Nielsen (28), Gibson (54), Alcácer (86), Ben Arfa (90+3)

We began the month with an exciting 4-2 win at home over Fulham, despite being 2-0 up we quickly blew our lead but we fought hard and managed to catch Fulham out late by scoring 2 in the final 10 minutes, our squad fitness showing a bit more energy than our opponents who had a very ageing squad.

Bony (1), Thauvin (9), Parker (Pen 55)

For our 2nd game of the month we travelled to Deutschland to take on Augsburg in our 2nd Europa League match, having lost our first match we needed to bounce back if we were to qualify, and with Augsburg already having won their first game we couldn't afford to give them more of a gap above us. We came out firing in this game, knowing that Augsburg would grow into the game we went with an attacking mentality in order to gain an early lead, this paid off as Bony and Thauvin put us 2-0 to the good before Augsburg pulled one back via a 2nd half penalty, but he held strong and took the 3 points back to England. We're back in it now!

Coutinho (15), Bony (26), Lascelles (70)

A lucky victory here, but not an undeserved one. We were on the back-foot for the majority of the game but we held strong defensively despite being a goal down early on, we then found an equaliser through Ivorian Striker Wilfried Bony before tightening defensively and keeping possession in the middle of the park. Upcoming youngster Jamaal Lascelles nodded in the winner from a Cabella corner to seal 3 points for us, a fantastic away victory.

Liverpool's inability to hold a 1-0 lead see's the Merseyside club knocked from the top spot in the league for the first-time this season.

England Qualify for Russia 2018

Louis van Gaal's England have qualified for the 2018 World Cup following a 3-0 win over Cyprus, with the European Champions looking to win their first World Cup since 1966 the Lions will be delighted to have qualified from their group with such ease and will now look to prepare for the trip to Russia in the Summer.

England were always favourites to qualify in the top spot but faced competition from a stern Ukraine side as well as a surprise package in Iceland, but nonetheless England have managed to progress in the competition with a game to spare.

Savitskiy (23), Thauvin (35)

Following an a fantastic away victory at Anfield we returned to action at St. James' Park, sadly we were only able to pick up a point against a strong Tottenham Hotspur side, wonderkid Pavel Savitskiy had a fantastic game for the opposition, he not only found the net for the opener but continued to cause trouble down the right hand side and was truly un-markable. But we rallied hard and found the equaliser through French winger Florian Thauvin, a fine strike from the Frenchman as the ball rifled past Lloris into the top left hand corner. We then held defensively to hold Tottenham at bay but failed to build any momentum from our equaliser.

Youth Facilities Upgraded

bf5ca5a28d.jpg

Newcastle United have today announced that the Club's youth facilities have been upgraded, according to BT Sport sourced the estimated sum spent on the renovations is believed to be around £2,000,000.

newcastle-united-academy-360.jpg

In recent years Manager Paul Clement has made it clear to the club of his intentions to develop young players to keep the clubs tradition, BT Sport spoke to Clement, 34 earlier today.

BT Sport Reporter: "Newcastle United today announced the completion of work on the academy, what can you tell us about this?"

P.Clement: "Well as known to the media I've made it clear in recent years that I'd like to develop talent here at the club as opposed to signing from abroad. Adam Quinn is a player who has developed very well here and what I hope to be the first of many. I'm a man of tradition and I fully believe this country should be developing talent, for the heritage of the game."

BT Sport Reporter: "Were you surprised at Mike Ashley's agreeable stance in regards to accepting your requests? He doesn't hold a reputation as the most 'giving' chairman."

P.Clement: "Not at all, Mike is great guy and he just required an elaboration on why we needed to upgrade the facilities, but after seeing the progress made by the likes of Quinn and Aarons he came around to the idea of repeating the process, it's a great move for the club."

England Star Signs New Contract

jamaal-lascelles-wide-portrait.ashx

New England star Jamaal Lascelles has today signed a new 5 year contract with Newcastle United according to Metro sources, it is believed that the club are eager to tie the upcoming youngster to a long term deal amid interest from other clubs following his call-up from his Country.

It is believed that his new contract offers wages of around £30,000, currently double what Lascelles is earning.

I'm delighted Jamaal is staying at the club, after his successful loan at Burnley he's come back to the club as a brilliant central defender and has been one of the best members in our team in recent weeks. He's fully deserving of his England recognition, he's a great lad.

Zaradoukas O.G. (26), Alcácer (90+2)

In our last European match we fell to defeat against Toulouse at home, this time we were a lot better. We came into the match knowing we needed a win in order to maintain hope of qualifying from the group stage, I played a rotated team in order to keep things fresh but nonetheless we had a good squad on the pitch. The first goal came as an own goal from the Greek side, some lovely build up play that resulted in a drilled cross which was knocked in by the PAOK defender. Haidara saw red shortly after half-time for a late challenge which put us under a huge amount of pressure, but the team responded well and rallied defensively, before hitting Panathonikos on the counter to nab our 2nd goal of the game through Paco Alcácer, a great performance and a big win!

Cabella (8,12)

We finished the month with a very impressive 2-0 win against West Bromwich Albion at St. James' Park. Paco Alcácer was tired coming into the game and Bony is still away on International duty and so I decided to bring in Rémy Cabella as a False-Nine with Adam Quinn playing as a #10. The plan worked brilliantly as Cabella latched onto a ball from Quinn and slotted under Ben Foster after only 8 minutes. Cabella also bagged his 2nd of the game after nodding in a Danny Rose cross, a wonderful set of finishes from the Frenchman and although we took our foot off the gas after the going 2-0 up I'm still delighted with the result.

Could Newcastle fans soon be seeing Rémy Cabella lining up in a new position? Only time will tell.

(Burnley are 20th with 2 points)

As you can now see we're sitting in 2nd place after a very successful month, it's still only early days but we're certainly looking like a top 4 team. UCL qualification is definitely the aim for this season, but hopefully we can push on and get a top 3 finish, we've been brilliant at both ends of the pitch so far.

Newcastle's star playmaker Rémy Cabella has been ruled out for up to 3 months after sustaining a Damaged Achilles Tendon in a match against Hull City on Saturday. The Frenchman currently has 4 goals in 10 games as well as 6 assists and currently leads the average rating leader-board with an astonishing 8.07 rating.

Newcastle will now have to turn to the likes of youngsters Adam Quinn or Dele Alli in the hopes of maintaining their winning momentum.

Newcastle United today beat a resilient West Ham United side to progress to the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup. The Magpies started strong when Full-Back Massaido Haidara converted from a drilled cross after 60 seconds. Dele Alli added a second after 35 minutes when he rifled his shot into the bottom left hand corner, a well deserved 2-0 lead for the Toon as they dominated much of the first-half, not only in possession but in chances created.

West Ham United failed to find a response following the start of the second half as Newcastle continued to hold strong defensively while keeping the ball for long periods of time, a well deserved victory for the Magpies who will now progress into the Quarter-Finals.

Following the game, BBC reporters caught up with Newcastle United manager Paul Clement.

BBC Reporter: "Mr. Clement, your side today progressed into the quarter-finals of the league cup, what does this mean to you?"

P.Clement: "I think it shows the progress we're making as a club, although the cup is not a priority we are still able to win games due to the flexibility and diversity of our squad, I'm thrilled."

BBC Reporter: "Will your progression into the Final-Stages see a change in the Cup XI?"

P.Clement: "I don't think so, these lads have done tremendously to get this far and I fully feel that they deserve to play throughout the entirety of this cup run."
