Newcastle United today defeated Hull City 2-0 to reclaim top-spot in the Barclays Premier League, goals from Virgil van Dijk and Remy Cabella helped lift the Toon up to the peak of the table following a dominant home performance in which they restricted Hull City to 0 shots on target.

Newcastle Playmaker Rémy Cabella did however suffer a serious injury and is believed to be out of action for around 3 months, a big blow for the Toon as Cabella has by far been their most influential player this season.

(I posted the Cabella injury before the Cup game..Not sure why)

Newcastle Manager Paul Clement took to Twitter to express his delight following the match.

Newcastle United have looked like a much stronger side this year with many fans expecting a top 4 finish.

Newcastle Secure Europa League Victory

Newcastle United today moved a step closer to qualifying for the Knockout stages of the Europa League following a dominant 3-0 home win over Panathonikos. The Greek side struggled to get a foot-hold in the game and having lost their opening 3 games they maintained their 100% loss record here at St. James' Park.

Goals from Hatem Ben Arfa, Chris Smalling and Marouane Fellaini were enough to fire the Magpies to a 3-0 victory having converted 3 of their 8 shots on target.

Newcastle on the other hand have moved within touching distance of qualification after moving top of the group on 9 points and with expectations of reaching the elimination stages the Toon will surely be looking to top the group.

Manchester United loanee Chris Smalling has been very impressive since arriving at St. James' Park, not only staying strong defensively but also providing a threat from set pieces.

Two great wins there mate! seems like team got good confidence at the moment!

Poor Fortnight for Newcastle

Newcastle United slumped to a 2-1 defeat to Southampton at St. James' Park, having started quickly the Saints managed to hold onto their lead despite a late goal from Spanish winger Pablo Sarabia.

A poor result for a Newcastle side looking for a top 4 finish, with manager Paul Clement describing the performance as "Disappointing" and claimed that the Newcastle squad "Lacked the passion and energy", harsh words from the manager but perhaps some much needed ones following the level of the performance put in by the team.

The Toon followed up their loss to Southampton with a draw away from home at the Liberty Stadium, despite scoring a goal through Hatem Ben Arfa in the 3rd minute the Newcastle defence quickly fell asleep and allowed an instant equaliser from Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson. The roles then switched as Swansea's backline fell asleep to allow Chris Smalling to nod home from a corner, poor marking from the Welsh side as the loanee defender put the ball past Fabianski. Substitute Bafétimbi Gomis found a late equaliser to deny the Magpies chance of claiming the 3 points away from home, the Frenchman latched onto a Sigurdsson through ball before slotting the ball past Tim Krul in the Newcastle net.

After the game Sky Sports reporters caught up with Paul Clement to get his views on the past couple of matches.

Sky Sports Reporter: "So Paul, what are your thoughts about the past two matches? Only one point from a possible six, will this disrupt your teams momentum?"

P.Clement: "Well it's disappointing..We started very slowly last week against Southampton and today we started quickly but lost concentration towards the end, we need to sort these issues."

Sky Sports Reporter: "Are you still confident of a top 4 finish?"

P.Clement: "I don't wanna get too far ahead of myself, we're playing well but there's a long way to go at the moment, we'll take each game as it comes and hopefully we can do well."

Ah not so well then lol

Haha! As I read your previous comment I was just thinking "Wait until you see the next update!"

Played these games throughout the week so I'm just quickly doing the updates now, I'm not just rushing through the game!

Newcastle Qualify for Knock-Out Stages

Newcastle United have confirmed their place in the knock-out stages of the Europa League following a 1-1 draw with Toulouse at St. James' Park.

Mexican winger Hirving Lozano scored the opener for Newcastle after cutting inside on his left foot before curling the ball into the bottom right hand corner, however a poor tackle from Haidara led to a penalty to Toulouse, which was converted by Dominik Furman to grab a point for the French side.

While the winner of the group is still undecided until the final match has been played, Newcastle's sum of 10 points is enough to send the Magpies into the elimination rounds, a pleasing but expected result for the Tyne-Side Club.

Newcastle Manager Paul Clement seemed delighted with the qualification, as seen on his Social Media site.

Dutch Goalkeeper Tim Krul also expressed his happiness with the qualification over Twitter.

Re-Capping November

a06ebf04715fb30930eb267128616d3f.png

November was a 50/50 month, we started off brilliantly with 3 clean sheet victories in a row but then we slumped towards the end by only picking up 2 points out of 9. A couple of bad injuries have caused some setbacks but I feel we should be able to crack on and perform without some of our star players, but we'll see how we do in December.

If things don't improve I may be forced to bring in a player or two.

After 12 games we now sit in 3rd place, only a couple of points above 6th but only 4 behind 1st placed Chelsea, I'm pleased that we've only lost one match so far but disappointed in the manner we lost it, especially at home. But hopefully we can crack on and pick up some much needed results to cement our place in the top 4, especially following a poor end to November.

In the Europa we currently sit top by one point with a single match left to play, Augsburg at home.

Hopefully we can pick up a win in that game and top the group, which for a club of our stature should be a pretty expected result, but bar our loss to Toulouse we've played very well throughout this European campaign so far!

9b7f44374276c683c6eb82a2a9012341.png

We currently have three injuries in the squad with only two being serious.

Bony is expected to return for our League match against West Ham in December whereas Cabella and Alcácer are not expected back until late January/February time which is disappointing, but we have a good squad at out disposal and can hopefully manage without them!

Although we are lacking in the Striker department with Bony being our only available Striker, so a loan may be necessary in the Winter transfer window.

Newcastle Avoid Tough Draw

2eb26a8376.jpg

Newcastle United have been drawn against Brentford in the Quarter-Final of the Capital One Cup following their 2-0 victory over West Ham United, having avoided teams such as Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool the Tyne-side will be delighted with the trip to the Championship side and will feel confident of reaching the Semi-Finals.

ESPN reporters caught up with Newcastle United manager Paul Clement to hear his opinion on the draw.

P.Clement: "Obviously it's a much kinder draw than we could have had, but Brentford are a good little club and we'll need to be at our best, but hopefully we can progress further into the Cup."

West Ham United Continue to Struggle

Following a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United, West Ham contnue to struggle as they sit bottom of the table with only 5 points after 14 matches. The match saw a rotated Newcastle side with Wilfried Bony being brought back into the side, only to be substituted at half time due to fitness reasons. Dele Alli, Rolando Aarons and Massaido Haidara also came into the first team with fitness levels seeming to be a concern in the Newcastle camp.

2c6b716266a517e8b77a33b78fc8ae07.png

The somewhat rotated side remained dominant however as they possessed the ball very well in the middle of the park while creating chances by exploiting their pace down either wing. West Ham showed why they foot the bill in the table as they failed to carve out any opportunities and were restricted to only one shot on goal throughout the 90 minutes.

Newcastle's first goal came through half-time substitute Hirving Lazano as he latched onto a Dele Alli ball before slotting the ball under Costel Pantilimon to make it 1-0, the winger playing as a False-Nine as opposed to his usual wide role which proved to be an interesting but successful decision by the Newcastle Manager.

90th minute substitute Hatem Ben Arfa made it 2-0 from the penalty spot following a late challenge on Dele Alli from Winston Reid as he rifled the ball into the top right hand corner, a sublime penalty and a comfortable result for the home side.

With West Ham United failing to pick up points they now look increasingly likely to drop down to the Championship with many fans calling for Manager Simon Grayson to be sacked, things are looking blue for the Hammers.

Comparatives are starting to be drawn between the current performance levels and their relegation from the top flight back in 2011.

England Drawn into Group F

England have today been drawn into Group F for the 2018 FIFA World Cup which will be hosted by Russia, with England having won the European Championships back in 2016 they will now be looking to claim their 2nd World Cup, the first since 1966.

Here is a look at the World Cup Group Stage draw in full

Following the draw, Sky Reporters caught up with Raheem Sterling and Jordan Henderson to hear the view of the England squad on the group stage draw.

Sky Sports Reporter: "Raheem, Jordan..Can you summarise your thoughts on the draw for us?"

J.Henderson: "Well we've been drawn quite a nice group in the end, Ecuador, New Zealand and Wales so obviously we feel confident in our chances of qualification for the knockout stages, but we'll have to do our best and avoid complacency when it comes to Russia 2018."

Sky Sports Reporter: "Raheem, what does it mean to be in a group with Wales?"

R.Sterling: "I think it's great, they've done very well to qualify and obviously have some top players such as Bale, so we'll have to be alert but we want to prove that we're the best team in the UK, so a chance to 1up Wales will be a good way to prove that."

Sky Sports Reporter: "Ahead of the tournament which starts in June, just how confident are you and the rest of the team ahead of the World Cup?"

J.Henderson: "We won the European Championships in France last year, so we need to go out and show why we're the best in Europe and hopefully the World. We're confident but it'll all come down to how we perform on the day, hopefully we can be at the top of our game."

England and Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge took to Social Media site Twitter to voice his opinion, fair to say he's delighted!

England's supporters will be hoping for a much more successful campaign than Brazil 2014 where the team failed to get past the Group Stage.

Superb story mate, really enjoying it. Would love to see Paul Clement manage in the EPL for real, would be interesting to see. Do you mind posting a screenie of your Team Instructions and of how Dele Alli is progressing when you get the chance please?

Thanks for the feedback! You and me both, that's why I found it interesting when he was linked with the Toon job in real life, that'd be hilarious if he got it!

Here are the team instructions I use on my F9 formation, it has to be tailored to your teams needs though so a bit of tweaking may be necessary! (Ayoze Perez was originally my F9 but Bony racked up 15 goals and assists there last season)

b3f9f5d270.png

There are also some player instructions but again, I can't post those as it depends entirely on the squad you have!

As for Dele Alli, he's starting to develop quite nicely, I also have a 19 year old regen who has 5* potential so I've been chopping and changing between the two, but with Anita being sold in the Summer the two now have a chance for more playing time!

68508bd4e9.jpg

Alli currently has 2 1/2* ability and 4 1/2* potential, he's a good little player!

(I play him as an Advanced Playmaker in Central Midfield)

Feel free to ask if you ever want to see any other screenshots. :)

KIU mate! enjoying the story :)

Thanks, friend! I've been chopping and changing the layout a bit to try and find a solution that works, I think the current Newspaper theme helps people to follow the story more easily as it goes game by game as opposed to a monthly update. Hopefully it works for you! :)

I've been following your Sporting save under the radar but I'll be sure to leave more feedback in the future, you were unlucky against Real Madrid! But hey, you won both cups and retained the title so overall it's another good year!

Still can't believe you get Kranevitter on a free, he's not really settled in for me yet but I'm hoping he'll come good!

Goals Galore at St. James' Park

Newcastle United fell to a late defeat at home to Chelsea in what proved to be a thrilling contest.

Nemanja Matic opened the scoring for the Blues after 16 minutes when he prodded home Bernard's cross but the Blues became complacent from kick-off as Ivorian striker Wilfried Bony found the net at the other end almost instalty!

Matic then put the ball past his own keeper in the 50th minute as he tried to clear a Ben Arfa cross only to slice the ball towards his own net, it was 2-1 to the Toon and Matic was soon subbed for his poor start to the 2nd half.

Veteran defender John Terry put the London side level after pouncing on a parried save from Tim Krul following an Eden Hazard free-kick before Diego Costa capitalised on a lack of communication between van Dijk and Krul to slot home into the empty net, it was now 3-2 to Chelsea.

Belgian Midfielder Marouane Fellaini leveled for the Toon after rifling the ball past international teammate Thibaut Courtois from 20 yards to make it 3-3 before Jamaican winger Rolando Aarons rattled the bar from a near post flick.

Newcastle were left to regret the miss as Diego Costa bagged his 2nd of the game to win the game for Chelsea, a devastating loss for the Geordies who fought so valiantly in this game and were by far the better team on the day. But that's Football.

Newcastle United have now lost two league matches this season, both of which were at Home.

Chelsea on the other hand have retained their spot at the top of the table following the dramatic late victory over Newcastle United.

FA Cup 3rd Round Draw

Newcastle United will play Chelsea in the 3rd round of the FA Cup at St. James' Park and having just lost a dramatic 4-3 match against them in the league I'm sure the fans will be excited for the tie.

Although Newcastle would have liked an easier tie you have to beat the best to be the best, and so if the Toon plan on bagging some Silverware this season they'll definitely be put to the test right off the bat!

The board have expectations for this Cup, so playing a stronger side may be required as opposed to the young squad we've played throughout the League Cup..But we'll have to see!

Newcastle Top Group Despite Loss

Despite a 1-0 home defeat to Augsburg in the final game of the group stage Newcastle United have finished as winners of the group, due to Toulouse's defeat against Greek side Panathonikos.

Newcastle amassed a total of 32 shots in the game against Augsburg but failed to find the net with Djurdjic finding the net for the German side with their only shot on target.

Newcastle will surely be disappointed at the manner of the defeat but having player a younger, rotated squad it was expected that they wouldn't find the net as many times as they often do..But to lose two matches in a row will no doubt be disappointing for the Magpies.

Newcastle United will now await the first knock-out stage draw to see where their fate lies in the competition.

Yeah its looking good mate, really solid layout and easy to read.

Aw thanks man :) glad to hear it, yeah unbeaten in over 50 games now so cant complain haha! Kranevitter has amazing stats on my save as well so if there anything like that on yours then surely he will become a great player :) hopefully he settles in quickly for you...sooner the better!
