^^ cheers for comments guys :) Working on an update for either this evening or tomorrow.

16th September

16th September 2009.

I arrived at the training ground at around 10am. There won’t be a session today -- not the day after a big game, but I’ve organised a tactical meeting with the players ahead of the weekend’s fixture against Werder Bremen.

“Good morning, Bastian,” smiled the receptionist as she handed me a fax, “This arrived for you earlier.”

“Well done in Kiev. It’s never an easy place to go. It wasn't the greatest spectacle, but you got the job done and that’s the most important factor in the ECL. I’ll be out of town for the next few days -- I’ve some work to do for the FBS -- and I won’t be able to make the Bremen game, so I’ll wish you good luck now. Keep up the good work. Franz.”

I smiled a contented smile. It’s always nice when your efforts are recognised by others. Franz knows his stuff -- he’s been there; done that; and, for his troubles, he’s got multiple t-shirts to show for it. A team can’t perform brilliantly in every game -- it’s impossible, but if you can still get a result when you’re out-of-sorts you’ll stand a great chance of claiming silverware come the season’s end. Franz knows this, that’s why I enjoy having a proper ‘football man’ above me in the pecking order. I feel sorry for the managers out there who have to answer to accountants or billionaire play-boys -- those with no understanding of the simple game they’ve bought into. My job’s hard, but theirs must be almost unbearable.

The tactical meeting with the players went well. I’d already penned a plan to defeat Bremen (based on scout reports and Andries’ input) but it’s always good to seek the opinions of the players themselves -- after all, it’s them who have to put the plan into action.

Yes, the meeting went very well -- I think we’ll win the match.

I received a text from Anita, whilst driving home, “Have you asked Resi about dinner yet?”

“Oh ****,” I thought, “No.”

To be honest, I wasn’t 100% keen on the idea. Anita is my wife and Resi, well Resi is an interesting break from the pressures of football management that I’d prefer to have all to myself. Nevertheless, Anita wears the trousers in our house, and if she wants Resi to come for dinner then it’s my job to make it happen…

“Dinner at my place? Tomorrow at 7.30pm? Bastian.” I clicked send.

30 seconds later -- Beep, beep, beep.

“Sounds great. See you there J
