Best team to never win Champions League

Rangers 9 in a row team where probably up there with the best not to win it, but it was their own fault they didn't, so I'll say Juventus side about 2000-2005. They had some immense players.

My top 5 :

Arsenal
Chelsea
Bayern Leverkusen - The 2002 runners up side which had stars like Ballack, Lucio, Schneider, Berbatov, Neuville etc. etc.
Valencia
Atletico Madrid - the side which came runners up on .... ( After a little Googling ) 1974 :)

Liverpool 2007 Athens

You don't get it, side who has NEVER won CL ... lol

haha well so was Chelsea ledg Juliano Belletti scoring the winner for Barcelona against you in 2006!!!!!

Ledg? Please tell me you're joking?

Anyway, I agree with the Roma and Juventus posts. They have had superb sides.

hes a well respected player at stamford bridge i used a strong word.

Chelsea and Arsenal being the obvious ones.

I'd strongly shout for Valencia, Roma, Ath Madrid, Stade Reims and Leeds United.

I'd consider Arsenal to be the best out of these, having a great sqaud as mentioned with Vieira, Henry and co. and having the unbeatable side in 2004, not to mention the best ever defence record of the Champions League in 2006, yet they haven't won it..

The two teams i would have to say have already been mentioned. Arsenal's invincible team in 2003/4 somehow never achieved the same success in Europe. Chelsea seem to have done everything but win the Champions League in the last four years or so. Arsenal were also desperately unlucky to lose out in 2006. After such a brilliant run, famous victories, including "1-0 at the Bernabau" and after taking the lead through Sol Campbell and Jens going crazy.

I knew before hand that only a Chelsea fan would make a thread like this.

Don't get mad get even, go win it next year (if you can that is)

But Chelsea aren't the best team never to have won the Champions League fact.

If you are talking in terms of team names Arsenal is the most noticeable absence from CL winners

If you are talking about teams then the Chelsea 07 team are not the greatest group of players not to win the Champions League.

So either way

Chelsea aren't the best team never to have won the Champions League fact.

New here, so please don't bite. :)

I would say that the Arsenal invincible team really deserved the recognition.

Chelsea aren't it because after all, it's only in the past decade that they've been around season after season at the top level. Hardly the most disappointing of displays though the fact they were inches from glory is kind of harsh and I'm sure if we were to be asking this question in tens years time and Chelsea having not still won it, they'll be the answer.

Rafael Benitez's Valencia side deserved it. They were awesome and one of the most memorable sides to have played for me. So balanced. Smashing Madrid was nice to see too.

There was a time when Roma had Gabriel Batistuta, Francesco Totti and Cafu yet they still couldn't win it.

Maybe I'm just sad that Batistuta had never won the CL before.

Tottenham 1962 champions league got cheated out by Eusebios Benfica, the eventual winners

  1. Chelsea
  2. Bayern Leverkusen
  3. Arsenal
3 quality teams, who have all lost out on the final hurdle.

It's interesting to see so many people mention Arsenal and or Chelsea. Something interesting to note is that, no capital of a democratic country has ever had a team that won the European Cup. In fact the only European capital to have won it is Madrid. A capital of a formerly fascist country. Where as. the smaller industrial towns have won many, Manchester, Liverpool, Milan, Munich. Etc, etc...

That having been said, I think Arsenal are far and away the best to never have won it.

Red Star Belgrade - Belgrade = Capital of Serbia?
