Blasphemy! A wee club in the north-east threaten sir Alex Ferguson's dominance!

Are you playing as Newcastle or are you simming and having a type of journalist save? This is really interesting anyways.

Playing as Newcastle, of course - just trying to add a little depth to the story. Not sure if it works though.

Leeds United: Shingo Takei sold to Manchester City - Matteo
View attachment 349653

by Dominic Matteo
Leeds United fans will be disappointed to hear the first transfer in January is an outgoing one. Manchester City have moved quickly to secure the signature of our attacking full back Shingo Takei for £3.2m.

Shingo has been a loyal servant for Leeds over the past four seasons after we brought him from Crystal Palace for £15.75m. The fee we got for him looks tiny compared to that but we must accept Shingo is now 32 years old and his best playing days are behind him. He has played 175 games for Leeds, scoring 2 goals and assisting for another 20.

The sale sees the squad a little weakened but with Harry Redknapp preferring to play Phil Jones there we should be able to cope without a new player in this position. It will be interesting to see which area we strengthen though.

Leeds United: Hamaye Fanta signs from Q.P.R. in mega-deal - Matteo

Leeds United moved quickly to ease fans concerns after yesterday's sale of long serving Shingo Takei. The board announced the signing of world class left winger Hamaye Fanta from Queens Park Rangers. Hamaye, 28, cost a fee of £33m and spoke about his determination to prove worthy of the hefty price tag.

His form during the three seasons he spent with Rangers suggests he might just do that. Fanta managed 16 goals and 18 assists in 91 games. He came in England from Gremio and curiously cost Q.P.R. the same fee Leeds paid for him.

Was Leeds taken over by a tycoon? Also any chance of posting Arsenal's history?

Old Trafford in disbelief as wonderkid Ashby leaves for Blackburn!

Manchester United fans are shell shocked by today's announcement youth academy product Joel Ashby turned us down to sign for title contenders Blackburn Rovers. Ashby, only 17, was already an established first team member and a crown jewel in Sir Alex Ferguson's new generation. The £20m fee we received for him is little comfort and concerned fan clubs have already come out with joined declaration expressing their disbelief that Manchester United is turning into a selling club.

Ashby betrays us for Rovers

Ashby managed 3 goals and 2 assists in 11 starts and 10 sub appearances this season - which is the first in his career. The fans have every right to feel disheartened after we had the chance of watching this lad for so little. They slammed Joel for his lack of patience and going after the money at such early stage of his career but also pointed out Manchester United need to start challenging for silverware soon before this sale turns in a general trend.

Arsenal Watch

Following a clumsy start of the season, managed David Moyes spoke with passion about his plans to take the club forward. Moyes inherited a strong Gunners squad from Josep Guardiola in December 2025 and just turned two full years at the club. He did well to improve on a worrying 14th finish in Guardiola's last season producing 9th and 5th finishes and taking Arsenal back to the European stage. His ambition is to repeat the feat this year, too, and challenge for Champions League football the next season.

Arsenal have failed to bring trophies in their recent history but can call themselves unlucky after coming runner-ups for the Champions League in 2022, the Premier League in 2021, the FA Cup in 2017 and the Community Shield in 2021.

Chelsea sign Barcelona defensive midfielder Varillas

Chelsea announced their first signing for January today. Peruvian defensive midfielder Dany Varillas (24) joins the Blues from Barcelona in a £17.75m deal. Despite seeing him transfer listed, Barcelona fans expressed disappointment at Dany's departure and the "low" transfer fee.

Varillas is a peculiar transfer target given that Chelsea now have five midfielders in the squad while full back and center back positions are considerably short of options. This announcement comes with heavy rumours circulating that the manager is facing the cull and whether Varillas is his transfer target or an appetizer for a new about to be hired candidate remains to be seen.

Newcastle open 2027 with best win of the season and cut Rovers lead to four points

Newcastle inflicted more damage on visiting relegation favourites Birmingham in a 8-0 win, the most convincing score in a competitive match this season.

Newcastle and Blackburn head to head in titanic battle

The lads were under some pressure after Blackburn won comfortably on Saturday and extended their lead to seven points. Whatever hopes Birmingham came with to take advantage from this were quickly tarnished as the Magpies ran rampant to score three in the opening 16 minutes. The visitors held that result until half time but their defense switched off after the break to concede five more. The lack of fight will trouble their manager Darren Ferguson but I have no complaints. With seven different names on the scoresheet Hristov's tactics are getting the best out of the players and it should do miracles for their confidence.

Score brings sentimental memories

We are now four points behind Rovers but we need to remain calm. Two games in hand mean we have it all in our hands and a couple wins will see us pip them to the top. And what better way to signal our intentions than winning 8-0. As the great Sir Bobby Robson said, "Well, we got nine and you can't score more than that."

Europe still possible on Merseyside

Míchel was in fighting spirit in front of the reporters after the 1-1 home draw with Queens Park Rangers. The manager declared we are still chasing European qualification and he has every confidence we can get it. It is refreshing to hear some positive words for a change after the recent injury mire. Even if it comes after another disappointing result at Anfield.

Míchel promises the Kop European fight

I must say Míchel isn't speaking blank words to appease the crowd. A quick glance at the form table informs us Liverpool sit in front of Chelsea, Manchester City and Queens Park, all of which are in the mix for Europe. In fact only Arsenal from the teams around us are in better form but we are above them in the table. It is a remarkable turn of events for a squad as ravaged by injuries as us.

Injury crisis instills togetherness in team

I've always said there is an upside in every negative though. Tough times and limited numbers mean the players have grown a sense of togetherness and an extra bit of resilience. They know each other a lot better and show more desire to play for each other. Falling behind in the score won't affect their morale as much anymore. Of course it is a precarious balance as fitness is ever so important in such a physical league and we simply cannot afford to lose more bodies. But it is worth noting for all the trouble we have had to deal with we do look a better side than in the autumn.

Rovers maintain form to rebuild 7 point lead on the top

Once again Blackburn take advantage of Newcastle's participation in numerous competitions and play their game earlier than the opponents. This is a heavy bonus for Rovers in the title fight because Newcastle need to win all 3 games in hand to get ahead in the table and all this in a heavily congested schedule. In the meantime we can head in each game without immediate pressure and it shows. The lads are brimming with confidence and sweep away the opposition.

The lads are brimming with confidence

In another time and with Newcastle closer to our backs we could have reacted differently to an early penalty like it happened against Oxford. Not now. Buoyant support from the fans saw us score three within the first half hour and despite conceding another before half time we never really let Oxford back in it. Reduced to ten men just before the break, Oxford didn't have enough left in the tank and it allowed Luca Boccaccini to grab his second goal. Luca is in a fight of his own with Newcastle's Jim Priestley for the top scorer award and currently has the upper hand in that duel.

Boccaccini vs Priestley for the Golden Boot

I think this kind of schedule gives us a great opportunity to heap more and more pressure to Newcastle. It will take a single wrong step from them and their games in hand will no longer be an advantage. We have to make the most of it while it lasts and hope they falter somewhere before the pressure returns to us.
