Still not good enough to beat off the competition, should have been 6-9 points clear at this stage. I am aware Suarez has the reputation but getting sent off solely because of consistent diving is even more stupid than biting someone bigger than you!! Especially when a game is hanging in the balance. Thank lord Villa couldn't score there.
Chelsea are way behind in scoring charts but have made up with their defence. Jose Mourinho prefers defensive minded tactics and with a front three of Lewandowski, Falcao and Hazard, he can leave scoring to them.

Their defense is tremendous, it was only when I played them earlier in the season I noticed they had conceded just four goals (after they played me). It would be horrific if I end up losing the title to Mourinho on goal difference for freaks sake!

And Man City are on a 32 games unbeaten streak! They look in even better shape to win the thing!

Premier League predictions: Lawro v Ant & Dec

BBC Sport's football expert Mark Lawrenson is pitting his wits against a different guest each week this season.

This week he takes on English comedy and TV presenting duo from Newcastle upon Tyne - and, surprisingly, Newcastle fans - Ant & Dec. Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly first rose to fame as actors on the children's television show Byker Grove, during which and in their subsequent pop career they were respectively known as PJ & Duncan - the names of the characters they played on the show. Since then, they have had a very successful career as television presenters.

Lawro vs Newcastle fans Ant & Dec

A correct result is worth ONE point. A correct score earns THREE points.

Everton - Arsenal
Ant & Dec: We kind of think this will be a draw. 2-2.
Mark Lawrenson: I'll back the Gunners but it's not a rock-solid prediction. 1-2.

Newcastle - Q.P.R.
Ant & Dec: We win this, easily! 3-0.
Mark Lawrenson: Don't expect any slip ups from the Magpies after what they did to Watford. 4-0.

Stoke - Chelsea
Ant & Dec: About time Chelsea started losing pace! 1-1.
Mark Lawrenson: Geordies might be wishing for an upset here but I don't think it will happen. 0-1.

Manchester City - Crystal Palace
Ant & Dec: Draw, believe it or not. 1-1.
Mark Lawrenson: I don't. 5-0.

Tottenham - Aston Villa
Ant & Dec: Also quite an even match - 1-1.
Mark Lawrenson: This is a direct clash for European qualification. If Spurs players can't get motivated for it I don't know what can get them going! 3-1.

Southampton - Manchester United
Ant & Dec: Another draw. 2-2.
Mark Lawrenson: This time I'll side with the calls for a surprise result. 3-2.

Last week, Lawro got three results right, with no perfect scores. His score of 3 was just good enough to beat the predictions of Chelsea fan Charlize Theron, who managed two correct results with no perfect scores.

Premier League predictions: Lawro v Spike

BBC Sport's football expert Mark Lawrenson is pitting his wits against a different guest each week this season.

This week he takes on American film director, producer, writer, actor and Arsenal fan Spike Lee. His production company, 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks, has produced over 35 films since 1983. Lee's movies have examined race relations, colorism in the black community, the role of media in contemporary life, urban crime and poverty, and other political issues. Lee has won numerous awards, including an Emmy Award. He has also received two Academy Award nominations.

Lawro vs Arsenal fan Spike Lee

A correct result is worth ONE point. A correct score earns THREE points.

Stoke - Manchester United
Spike Lee: This is a place the Red Devils can drop points and let's not forget we must catch up with them. 1-1.
Mark Lawrenson: Those are the kind of games Man United usually take with ease. 0-2.

Tottenham - Q.P.R.
Spike Lee: Spurs will suffer, as usual, I don't know why they even try. 1-1.
Mark Lawrenson: We keep talking how Spurs need to pick up their performances and it keeps not happening - but I'd be really surprised if they fail to win here - 2-0.

Swansea - Arsenal
Spike Lee: We simply must win this game. 1-2.
Mark Lawrenson: I just don't know what to expect of the Swans - they could be tired after the Europa League game, but they also got a magnificent win there and it might inspire them for this game. 1-1.

Chelsea, Manchester City and Newcastle games postponed

Last week, Lawro got five results right, with no perfect scores. His score of 5 was good enough to beat the predictions of Newcastle fans Ant & Dec, who managed one correct result with one perfect score.

Mark Lawrenson Capital One Cup Final preview

1 March 2015

View attachment 416877View attachment 416876View attachment 416875

This season's Capital One Cup sees Manchester City new manager Jurgen Klopp taking his outfit in a first final against holders Newcastle and eccentric Dimiter Hristov. The Citizens are on a spectacular run of 34 unbeaten games and enter this match as heavy favourites. The draw was incredibly generous towards the Magpies as they didn't face a major club in any of the games till the final. Klopp and Hristov have already locked horns twice in the league, both occasions ending in 2-2 draws. This time there must be a winner - who will it be?

Team news:
Newcastle - none
Manchester City - Samir Nasri injured; Lucas Leiva doubtful
Weather report:
Wet, 12C

What a game and what a comeback from Newcastle to retain the Capital One Cup after being one down and reduced to ten men in the very first minutes! Tremendous character and great defending in the end to see out the final ten when the Magpies got another player sent off and finished the game with just nine on the pitch! The Citizens will be left wondering how they failed to win this - and their amazing unbeaten run comes to an abrupt end! Now let's take a look at match stats and individual performances:

League Table:

View attachment 416822

Gary Lineker: Good evening and welcome to Match of the Day for our thoughts on the 2014/15 Premier League season! It seems the race will be as tight as ever this time around and as we all know it is those direct 6-pointer clashes that play a decisive part in deciding who will fly and who will fall. For this reason we will be focusing solely on those giant games in Match of the Day. Stay with us as Alan Hansen and Alan Shearer aid me on analyzing the key aspects of what happened and why it happened for you!

Newcastle - Chelsea
2-0
View attachment 416819

Gary Lineker: Saint James' Park was the arena of one of the key remaining title contender clashes as champions Newcastle entertained league leaders Chelsea. The match was heated additionally by a harsh exchange of words between managers Dimiter Hristov and Jose Mourinho, who have a grudge since the corresponding fixture earlier in the season when the Blues came out 4-1 winners. The win would have granted either side the top position of the league table but was also very important as the third team still in the running - Manchester City - has two games in hand. Mourinho was dismissive of talks about lucky wins in his last two title contender derbies which Chelsea both won thanks to own goals from the opposition - but it was exactly an own goal from a Chelsea player that gifted the lead to the hosts just before the half time whistle. Calmed by this score, the Magpies dominated the second half and got a second goal with a great Leighton Baines strike to seal the game and return to the top of the Premier League!
Alan Hansen: I actually think the Magpies were in complete control throughout the game and luck had little to do with the end result. Possession was perfectly equal but the hosts made most of the ball when they had it and created a number of chances. I was surprised to see Chelsea so devoid of fighting spirit, it seems like Mourinho's comments before the game backfired spectacularly!
Alan Shearer: I'd like to point out two of the Chelsea players who deserve praise - Thiago Alcantara didn't stop trying during the entire game and was a key factor behind his team's large portion of possession. Mangala was tremendous in defense and won virtually every tackle or header he got into. Varane and goalscorer Baines excelled for the Magpies but it was Gino Peruzzi who got the PoM award with a combative, ever-tackling performance which culminated in creating the goal that sealed it for the home side.
Gary Lineker: This result provides yet another twist in the Premier League title race with Chelsea losing pace and dropping from top contender to third bookies favourite to win it. Newcastle go top but it is Manchester City in pole position with two games in hand and lurking just three points behind!
