Just finished my first season with Ajax, didn't win the league and wasn't overly impressed with my teams attacking consistency. Not dismissing the tactic in any way I think it is most likely my man management, do you have any advice?

Make sure OIs are set. Ask every possible older squad member to tutor someone, even if the kid is terrible and has no prospects. Do all pre and post game conferences. Never praise much in those, or at half-time. Train team cohesion, it's really important this year. Sell players with high aggression, low teamwork, low composure, etc. Even if they're high in other attributes, they'll bring your team down. Other than that...I don't know :P

My Ajax save is going decent. We hit a rough patch and got knocked out of the cup already, but I benched the troublemakers and we're rolling again.

GobBluthJD, I think you forgot to mention this:

1) get any in-game editor to boost the attributes, morale and conditions of your players

2) be ready to re-load and re-play matches if something went wrong

3) get insane results and make screenshots

4) post screenshots

5) wait until some noobs come, see the screenshots and say : "wow! you made amazing tactic"

6) feel yorself a great tactician

Good tactic but really struggling away at the big sides. I'm Everton, 6th after 20 games or so, just got beaten 5-4 on aggregate by Arsenal in the league cup semi finals. Lost 5-1 at Arsenal, 3-1 at United, 3-0 at Spurs... But doing well at home against them!

Do you stay on standard when playing the big teams away or counter/defending etc? Try changing it mid game but doesn't seem to work

Yea, I keep it standard no matter what. I always go through a rough patch here and there, especially in the early seasons when I haven't brought in the types of players I want.

Might be worth experimenting at counter/defending more, but I haven't tried yet

if it helps when i was playing with ajax i did switch to counter for a few away games, and it did well, especially with wingers but after a few away games of it the dreaded rough patch turned up, killed some moral off and things went back to the same again with the odd 1-0 win away and the rest were draws.

the only thing i can think of and only just thought of is maybe the counter would only work against the larger teams in the league, bottom teams wouldnt set up to attack ajax at home i dont think.

unfortunately my game broke and i couldnt load any of the back up saves, if i have the time ill try an entire season with counter.

I did end up winning the league in that save though and only conceding 10 goals, it was just the away performances always felt abit flat, the tactic is sold at home 95% of the time though

wow found a person butthurt here.

Ditto - feel your pain :D

Most important post ever - all forums - it put my thousand word posts to shame - you really thought this one out - you sure you wrote this or was it your mother - their is plenty of examples with people succeeding with this tactic - so what you are suggesting is not possible

In addition

Defensive or control as an alternative - control being the absolute most offensive solution - I think if you go attacking mentality the tactic might become to risky, however if you are one of those who don't care about 2 tactics then you could play attacking at home and defensive away - The idea on how it is currently works very well if you do it right.

Cheers
