Smiling Faces.

We travelled back to England, to say our goodbye's to the family, it wasn't to upsetting, because if everything worked out then i'd move them over to Spain with us. We only had a little family so thats what me and Sarah talked about. The house that the chairman had gave us was unreal, we couldn't get our head around the fact that he was taking a complete gamble on me, yet he still gives my a mansion!

Back in Spain.

I remember my holidays to Spain. I always used to think on the plane back, what it would be like to live there and how good it would be. If i said i wasn't going to miss England, i was lying. I'd miss watching all the English football. But i knew i needed a job and this was the first place to start my Spanish stardom ;)

I reported back to the club, and had another meeting with the Board, and they said tomorow would be my first press conference. This was my chance to start my new era of the "I Hate Press". I knew that the press would kill to see anybody fail, so they could slap it all over there tabliods. I ironed my Press suit, and was all ready for the interview.

My Time Infront of the camera.

I had been looking foward to this, the club land rover dropped me off outside the press conference, and i was escorted in by my two security gaurds. Flashes were going of everywhere, i stopped and heard one fanish fan shout, "Mr, you better get us promoted!". Pretty good English if you ask me. I walked into the conference and Carlos was sat there, along side some other random bloke.

The first question they asked me was,

"You're pretty unknown to the Spanish leagues, so are you suprised you got appointed as the Valladolid boss?"

I replied; "I was suprised, but it's all sink in now. I know the task thats in hand, and i know what these fans want, promotion.

"Thats right, the fans are keen on getting back into the league of the liked of Barcelona & Real Madrid. Are you the man to do this"

"If i didn't think i was the man, i wouldn't of taken the job, i'm confident of the squad of players i have here, and everything is set up for a succesfull campaign"

They were the key questions that got asked. They were alot of Q's but only really just the same old like, "are you looking to sign any players" which i replied with "We'll have to wait and see". The media were all talking in English, Luckily because i dont speak a word of Spanish, and i knew that would be a problem when i train the players tomorow.

Reporting for Training.

I turned up at the ground and got myself some snap from the bar, and a few bottles of Lucazade, today was the day where my old boots came in handy, good ole' trust worthy World Cup Adidas Boots ;)

I went downstairs into the 'Club lounge' where all the players were. I slowly opened the door, by this time my heart was racing. All the players stopped what they were doing, and turned round. I said "Well, This must be the players". They all laughed and came over to shake my hand. I was still learning names from Football manager but i remember a few.

Manucho, the former United striker came over to me. "Hello boss. Welcome to Valladolid". "Ahh, someone who speaks English. I remember you from your United days, nice to meet you, and thanks"

I told the players to follow me down onto the training pitch, where i was joined by my coaching staff, they had told the players to start there stretches whilst we all had a chat. They all introduced themselves to me, and said there roles. I knew deep down i wanted to bring in my own backroom staff from England, but i wanted to keep some of them, purely for there Spanish talking.

First training session over.
I had completed the first training session with the lads, after some crossing drills, shooting, heading, positioning and discussing tactics. I was now heading home, I had pretty much decided what my tactic would be, knowing that this was the strongest squad in the league, i went for a 4-3-3 style tactic with a target man, which i was pretty sure was Manucho.

Squad Review.
The sqaud is pretty much built off star players, espicially for this league, but i had marked down some of the hot prospects for the season.

They were all part off this squad i was hoping to knock straight back up into the top division.

7TH Of July.

5 days into the job, and my first interview as Coventry job. The interview was set for 2PM so i had plenty of time to prepare for it. I drove to the Ricoh at 9 so they could run me through what would happen. When i got there, the players were starting training, so i decided to take a look and talk to a few of the players. There training was top notch, and i couldn't wait to get into the job, and watch them train 5 days a week. I spoke to a few of the boys including, Aron Gunnarsson, Freddy Eastwood & Goalkeeper Keiren Westwood. Aron welcomed me to the club and we had a talk for about 20 minutes about what he thinks the club should achieve in the up coming season. Freddy promised me he would bang in the goals, and he also stated who he'd like to be partnered by upfront. Keiren wasn't the same though, he said straight away he'd like to leave the club for a bigger one. He also said who he thought should replace him though. When i got to training, they were just warming up. There fitness levels were top notch for just coming back.

When i got into the stadium, i got shown where the press conference would be done, and also how we'd do it. I ran through them what i was going to say, and they said that's fine. They, the directors, said that there would be over 20 Reporters at the press conference including BBC, Four Four Two & Sky Sports. That's when i got nervous, i knew if i mucked this up, that would be the end before it even started, i had to get it right. The Chairman walked into the room and said to me that they might want pictures of us outside the stadium and you holding a scarf. I said that would be fine, and we went our separate ways.

I went to my room, the managers room, to be greeted by a bunch of grapes, flowers and some cards. I started to eat the grapes and check my Statement. Within half an hour the grapes were gone and i was sitting there watching the TV. I thought i might go and see the players again to properly introduce myself. After about, 20 minutes of thinking whether i should or not, i decided to.

When i saw them this time they were playing a little 10 v 10 match. I watched the game and when i thought it was needed, i told them how to perform better. After 10 minutes the score was 3-0 to the First team. Freddy got all the goals. He cheekily said to me 'I told you i would boss' and we had a little laugh.

After about 40 minutes outside watching them train i got called inside to meet a Coventry City Legend, Jimmy Hill who managed the club between 1961 and 1967. He said to me that he was full of confidence i could take them back to the Premiership where he thought they should be. He told me how they managed the club back them and told me what tactic's would suit the side. He told me some players that i should look out for and he then went to the Legends bar outside the stadium.

It was now only 20 minutes away from the interview and all the Reporters were crowding the press conference room. That 20 minutes went so slowly it seemed like 2 hours. But when they called me into the room, it felt like i was gonna be sick. My final thoughts as i walked into the room were 'Don't, ****, it, up'.
..

The Interview.

As soom as i got into the room, they all welcomed me, and i welcomed them to the Ricoh Arena. Then the Chairman made a statement about how he was glad he got me as manager and how the contract worked out ect.. And them asked for questions. First it was BBC, they asked me if i was glad to become manager of Coventry City. Obviously i said yes, it's a dream come true. Then Sky sports popped in a very difficult question, Are you happy with your backroom staff?. I hadn't met my backroom staff before so i did what all great managers so, Lie out my ****. I said that i was very happy with them, and i'm looking forward to working with them for hopefully a very long time. Before i knew it, i was at them end of the interview. I couldn't even remember what i said, but i'm sure i said it well. They all gave me a clap and then they took pictures of me & the Chairman shaking hands in agreement. I was so chuffed it all went well i brought some champagne and celebrated with the Staff.

When i got home at around 9PM. My wife was sitting on the sofa watching the interview. When i got in the room it was just ending so i asked my wife 'How was i?' And she replied 'Well, To be honest, You were great!!'. At the beginning of that answer, i could swear i was going to be sick, but by the end i felt invincible. I took them all out to Pizza hut and the kids ordered the most expensive pizza.. Nothing changes..

great update mate  looking forward to the next one ;)

Starting pre-season.

A few weeks of training and it was time for the first game of the pre-season campaign. Our first friendly was against the u18's. I hadn't seen them play yet, I'd just leave that down to my assistant, Angel Felix. He'd just let me know if there was anyone worth shouting about and who deserved a chance in the first team.

Pre-game preperation.

I sat the players down before they went out to do there stretches and told them the team. I'd scribbled it down onto the white board and all the players seemed happy enough with it.

We knew how the u18's would line out, as they were in the same dressing room. Everything was friendly. I just told the players to go out there and enjoy themselves. I told them to make there first impressions on me. Everyone had a clean slate at the team, so it was there chance to prove to me they were worthy of being at the club.

First Half
Even though this was only a friendly it still had a big meaning to it. This was my first chance to see the players in a 90minute game, even if it was only against the youngsters.

In the 30th minute Manucho opened the scoring with a bullet header. I said he was my target man and it was looking good so far.

Half Time
I told the boys the same thing, just go out there and prove a point, i told them that this was just the first game where many of us would have to break the fitness barier to get back to there normal selfs.

In the 58th minute, Albert Bueno latched onto a nice through ball from Sesma, which he slotted under the keeper into the bottom corner. Almost like me in the old days.

And then in the 67th minute, a brilliant bit off dribbling from Bueno which seen him jink passed 2 players and play a ball through to Marquitos who fired the ball into the top left hand side of the goal.

Full time thoughts.
I was happy with the work both lads put in. Some exceptional football was played as well. I told the players to go home and rest, and then report back for training tomorow where we would discuss how we did, and make improvements etc.

My Key Man.
Marquitos was a key part of the win today, his vision and pace was key in setting up 1 goal, and grabbing one for himself. I didn't actually realise he was that quick, but he'd certianly give Walcott a run for his money!

Good pre-season win there.

Expect more of the same.. ;)
