VILLA BRING IN JEREMY TOLJAN

View attachment 188565

Aston Villa have made another move in the transfer window by bringing in 22-year-old Jeremy Toljan from Hoffenheim for 2.7 million, which could potentially rise to 3.4 million. The Croatian full back has been brought in to challenge Jordan Amavi for the left back spot, with not many others have the quality to de-throne Amavi at this time. When asked about his new full back, Lane said, ‘he has loads of pace and has bags of potential. Him and Amavi are both similar players, which is great to see in that left back spot’

TWO MASSIVE TRANSFER DEALINGS AT VILLA PARK

View attachment 188553
View attachment 188551

Aston Villa have spent big, and they have sold big. The big outgoing is 21-year-old Jack Grealish to Italian side AC Milan. The fee for this transfer is 32.5 million, which could rise to 48 million. Grealish was becoming unhappy at the back end of last season, and interest from big sides such as Arsenal and Man City had prompted Jack to put in a transfer request at Villa Park. Despite not wanting him to leave, Lane felt that it was the only thing to do. ‘I didn’t want Jacky to leave us, but if he wanted to go then he should go. And 32 million is massive for a team like ours, especially as we are now going into Europe.

One big player out, and one big player in. Villa have signed 22-year-old James Ward-Prowse from premiership rivals Southampton for a fee of 17.75 million, which could rise to 28 million. The rule of having English players in the European competition has prompted Lane to look for a homegrown player. ‘James is an incredible central midfielder who can also play on the right. Spending this much money on young player is always a risk, but I believe that Ward-Prowse can make a big impact for the club going forward.’

VILLA BRING IN SCHAUB AND REDMOND

View attachment 188548

Villa have gone out and brought another set of players for there side. 22-year-old Louis Schaub is the newest player to be brought into the side, which has been reported that the fee is 6.75 million, which could later rise to 8.5 million. The Austrian midfielder can play all across the middle of the pitch, and also in attacking positions. Lane is seemingly bringing in a lot of middle-of-the-pitch players to his side, as he looks to bolster the midfield for the upcoming season

Another signing made by Lane is 23-year-old Nathan Redmond from Premier League rivals Norwich City for a fee of 14 million, which could rise to 17.75 million. The English international seems to have been brought in to replace the gap that winger Jack Grealish had left when he moved to AC Milan. ‘Redmond is a very speedy and capable winger who knows where the back of the net is. Hopefully he can have the same impact that Grealish had when he was here.

VILLA BRING IN VAZQUEZ

View attachment 188541

Villa have gone out and brought another player for there side. 28-year-old Franco Vazquez is the newest player to be brought into the side, which has been reported that the fee is 18 million, which could later rise to 24.5 million. The Italian forward can play all across the front of the pitch, and also in attacking positions. Lane needed someone to challenge Jordan Ayew up top, and this might be the man who could challenge Ayew and score more goals then he does

VILLA BRING IN LOVREN AND UNAI ON LOAN

View attachment 188531

2 more players have been added to the Villa side for the upcoming season, and both have been brought in from 2 premier league sides. First is Dejan Lovren who has been brought in from Tottenham on loan. He was unsettled at Tottenham and was transfer listed and loan listed so we brought him in. another player is Enes Unai from Premier League rivals Manchester City on loan. Another good player who has been brought in in the same fashion as Chuba Akpom from last year as someone who can come on and make an impact

PLAYER OF MATCH – James Ward-Prowse 9.0

Brilliant result to start off a first game in European competition with a 4-1 victory over St Johnstone in the first leg. Hopefully we can keep our lead going into the next round and progress through the competition. Our expectation for the Europa League is to try and not get outclassed to much, so hopefully we can go beyond that.

Despite losing 1-0 we qualify for the Europa League Playoff, so we are one step closer to the Group Stages. The 4-1 win in the first leg cemented our place in the next round, and I rotated the squad around due to our first league game being only a few days away

PRE SEASON RESULTS

View attachment 188157

Only picking up 3 wins in Pre Season isn’t the best, but the again we didn’t lose any of the games. Wins against Hartlepool, Alloa and Huracan were nice to see, and creditable draws against Slovan, Fenerbache and especially Juventus created a relatively successful pre season for the lads.

Playing a Europa Game on the Thursday had craped on us with team selection, but I’m proud of the lads being able to win this match without some of the bigger stars in the team, with lads like Vazquez, Veretout, Amavi and Unai missing out through poor fitness. 1st goal for the team for Naby Keita secured us a 1-0 win away at Swansea

A competent victory against recently promoted Cardiff City. Goals from new signing Louis Schaub and James Ward-Prowse give us a 2-1 victory over a tough Cardiff side, who did claw it back to 1-1 before Ward-Prowse struck to back it 2-1 to Villa.

Brilliant first leg victory over an incredibly strong Sevilla side. Another goal from James Ward Prowse takes his total to 3 goals for the season from 5 games. Hopefully we can protect our lead in the second leg and make it through to an unlikely Group Stage

Thoroughly disappointed by how we played in this match, we were outclassed in every aspect of the game. 4-1 loss, 23 shots to 5, much less possession, so we did not deserve to win this game whatsoever.

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. 2 late goals from Veretout and Ayew bringing us the 2 away goals that we needed to go through. Being 3-0 down after 84 minutes I thought that we were done in Europe, but an 85th minute goal from Veretout, and a 87th minute goal from Ayew get us through to the group stages.

Tough game against Chelsea, and a close 3-2 loss against them as well. Slightly disappointed by the fact that we were 2-1 up woth 10 minutes left but we conceded twice late on to loss the match. Another MOTM for Ward-Prowse as well.

AUGUST REVIEW

View attachment 187214

Half and half month really. Started of so well with 2 victories in the league and then a superb win over Sevilla, but then it has dropped off for the final parts of the month with 3 straight losses. Hopefully we can pick it up in September

PLAYER OF THE MONTH – James Ward-Prowse

View attachment 187212

Ward-Prowse has been outstanding since his big money move from Southampton, picking up MOTM in almost every game that we have played so far. Great piece of business done by the club to get Ward-Prowse into the team

TABLE

View attachment 187211

In 9th position at the end of August with some tough but some relatively easy games coming up in September. Lets try and bring ourselves up the table. At the start of the season, despite being in Europe, our prediction/expectation by the board is to avoid relegation, so its nice to have that barrier to play with

TRANSFERS

View attachment 187210

Only 2 real transfer of note on Deadline Day. One was the sale of Jon Gaztanega. Due to an inflated squad, he was unable to be registered, so I thought it best to cash in on him while I could. The other player was 23-year-old Sebastian Haller who was sold to Crystal Palace for 6.25 million. Haller was the 5th choice striker and due to us only really playing 1 striker, his chances were limited.

Brilliant victory for the lads against bottom of the league Burnley. 2 goals from Schaub, and a goal apiece from Gueye and Veretout give us a comfortable victory and brings us out of our poor form
