Bringing back the Dynamo days! A Colne FC story...

December Report

3/12/11 Spalding 1-2 Colne FA Cup
The united Counties premier team were fighting Colne for a place in what you Could call the FA Cup Proper. Whoever won this tie had the chance at a plum tie with a league 1 or 2 team. Both team fought tooth and nail, David Lee drew first blood on 18 mins. Spalding wouldn't let the chance go easily and pulled back with a strike from Chris Connelly. A penalty won it for Colne just before half time david lee putting it away after having his legs taken out from under him. The cb pairing of rafter and Dougan proved to solid for spalding to breach again. Colne march on looking expectantly to the next drawing...

FA Cup Draw
With the numbered balls being drawn reds fan waited impatiently for their team to turn up..Team like Sheffield utd and Preston had already been drawn. Bradford at home to Chelmsford was the latest fixture, when it came Colne at home....The reds were to host Gillingham. Gillingham were under underacheiving in league 2 this year laying in 17th place, which could make this a tough fixture with them looking to boost their confidence against a non-league team. They were not the biggest league team in the draw but the reds fans had every right to feel happy with the draw their team had got.

7/12/11 Silsden 1-2 Colne
A tame performance by the reds usual standards saw them still somehow manage to take all 3 points from 3rd place Silsden. Silsden lead going into the first half 1 nil with Ross Foster scoring. David Lee brought Colne level just after the break on 49 mins. The a nightmare own goal from CB James Webb handed over all 3 points.

10/12/11 Colne 4-1 Alsager
A better showing against fellow promotion chasers Alsager. In a dominant performance David Lee, Ross Gardner and Ger Rafter all scored. Alsager fought back and got a goal for their troubles from Garry Banks but it was too little too late. Over stretching themselves they were then caught on the break and Danny Stokes was pushed into conceding an own goal.

14/12/11 AFC Liverpool 0-3 Colne
They say bad luck comes in threes and AFC Liverpool were the third team in a row to concede an own goal against the reds!. David lee enjoyed his day in merseyside scoring on either side of the own goal to put the game beyond all doubt.

17/12/11 Maine Road 0-4 Colne
Next was a trip to manchester who Colne have enjoyed playing at before. Today was no different with the team of David Lee and Leeroy Chinthengah ripping Maine Roads defence to shreds. Lee started things off on 9 mins, Cm John Seaton followed on 14 mins. Chinthengah put the game to bed with sweet strikes on 18 and 59 mins. The only downer was Excellant Lb Lewis Thomas picking in an injury.

21/12/11 Colne 5-1 Holker OB FA Vase 1st Rd
Colne showed they meant buisness in the FA vase demolishing underdogs Holker.Strikers Lee and Goodall paired up and each bagged a goal. Ger Rafter outdid both getting a wonderful brace, With CM Barrett rounding up the scoring. On 80 mins Holker did make a parting shot with Gareth Driscoll scoring. Lozano-Calderon also limped off in added time to take some shine off the win.

28/12/11 Colne ?-? Gillingham FA Cup
Colne prepared for their late christmas present a plum home tie with Gillingham. And Holt House was packed to capacity as the 1800 crowd waited for kick off. But would this be a late present to savour..or would it leave a worse taste in the mouth than a marmite selection box??...

Well the first ten minutes were tense for the reds fans Gillingham looked to finish colne off quick. Young Keeper Ritchie had to pull off a good save and keep hold of it, after a Luke Rooney shot to keep it level on 8 mins. The defense was pushed when veteren full back rutter gave away a free kick, but held firm clearing the ball. Colne then with some time on the ball pushed forward themselves. Winger Harwood bombed down the winger passing the ball froward to David Lee. Gills Cb King slid in well to take the ball away from Lee, But Harwood had been following and pounched on the ball. He curved a ball to the far side of the area. There waiting was Eric Farro with nobody picking him up just inside the area. He took the ball down, set it and GOAL!!! Eric Farro slotted the ball into the near Corner of the net. The Reds fans erupted Colne were actually leading against a league team!. On a high Colne went for it with Goodall just putting a strike wide to further the lead. The gills didn't lay down though and desperately pushed for a leveller. Cb dougan and Rafter were in the form of their life heading and sliding in to stop repeated attacks. Cm Barret pick up a yellow after a miss-timed tackle on Luke Rooney on 21 mins the game was hotting up..
On the ropes Colne launched into a counter attack Harwood playing it up to Lee who lost Gills CB Hampton completely but could only find the side netting with his strike. Colne sensing blood pushed on still further. Harwood again bombing down the wing he put in a cross to the near corner and a waiting Lee., But gills Cm Payne heading it away just in time. Harwood on fire then won a free kick as gillingham resorted to hacking him down. Farro took the kick, aimed straight at Harwood Who flicked it on to CB Rafter who blasted a shot at goal....But Gills striker Ford Cleared it off the Line for a corner. Farro Whipped the Corner into the box where it sailed into the centre of the area and was met by an explosive header from CM Ross Gardner.....GOAL!!!!!!. The Colne faithfull were in dreamland 2-0 the small counties league club in the FA cup proper for the first time in their history!. Gillingham lost all their fight and only their keeper stopped Shaun Goodall making it 3 tipping a thunderbolt over the bar HT.
Colne then ran Gillingham ragged passing th ball round with some neat passing . Gillingham fustrations boiled over coming to a head with Fuller heading for an early bath red carded for a dangerous challenge from behind on Eric faro. Down to ten men it was a step too much to come back from, and Colne finished of the game in great style with some exhibition football.

A sensational game all round for the Colne side against a shell shocked Gillingham side who thought they only had to turn up today. The champagne went to Farro for his goal and tireless work on the left wing although Harwood could just as easily taken the man of the match gong, both were outstanding. FINAL SCORE COLNE 2-0 GILLINGHAM.

31/12/11 Bacup 1-4 Colne
Back down to earth with a cold New years eve at Bacup. Shaun Goodall had a great end to the new year getting a Hat-trick.David Lee finished the scoring with his 50th goal in all competitons in 31 games!.

Huge Home Fixture for the Reds!!

The FA Cup draw was once again here. Colne were the Lowest level Non-league Club Left in the competition. And if they managed to get through this round they could well find themselves drawn with the likes of man united, chelsea or liverpool!. Colne didn't have long to wait this time being the 2nd fixure drawn. Barnet were drawn at home to Port Vale. The Colne were pulled out of the bowl another home fixture this time against.......Charlton!!. Colne had drawn League 1 Promotion hopefulls Charlton 4th place in the league. A massive task for Monaghan and his lads to overcome.

Monaghan was keeping his feet on the ground but excited at the prospect of hosting former premier league Charlton. "It's a fantastic draw one of if not THE hardest team of the draw. We know it will be a very hard game, but we're taking this one game at a time. We will be major major underdogs for sure but you never know people wrote us off against Gillingham."

Colne will also have to this time contend with being under the gaze of the nation, as ITV have chosen to take their cameras to Holt House for the FA cup fixture against Charlton. So lads no pressure eh?!...

ITV FA Cup HighLights Colne v Charlton

w this is the furthest you or Colne have ever got to in the FA Cup. Think you've got a chance to go further still?. "Well after last rounds performance i'm not ruling anything out for my lads. Again we're going to be underdogs but being at home with another full house I don't think we'll be too over awed. They'll know they've been in a game put it that way!"

There are whispers that your star striker David Lee is being eyed but Ireland premier teams, have you been approached by any club? " I've had no approach for david, and would not entertain any. Dave is happy here and has settled in well, nothing else I can tell you on that one"

I know your keen to talk to your lad again so i'll just ask one more. What approach are your team taking to this one? Like I said I don't think the l;ads will be too star struck today. We'll just go about our buisness as usual. We won't be laying down for any team so Charlton will have to work that's for sure.

I'll let you go and prepare, Thanks for your time and good luck. "Thank you.

Starting 11
Colne GK
Ritchie RB Rutter CB Rafter CB Dougan LB Thomas RW Harwood CM Gardner CM Barrett LW Farro ST Lee ST Goodall

Charlton GK Hamer RB Francis CB Cort CB Taylor LB Wiggins RM Wagstaff CM Alonso CM Stephens LM Jackson ST Wright-Phillips ST Kermorgant

The opening the teams seemed to warm up. Charlton probe around the area but we repelled by Colne. Till Jackson crossed a ball to Wright-Phillips who tapped the ball to Stephens who was lurking on the edge of the area. He powered the shot first time...and Ritchie produce an outstanding save to deflect it over the ball!. Charlton were showing there class with wiggins crossing a ball to Cort who right in fron of goal headed it just over. Just 3 mins in and Colne were looking on the ropes a bit. After the goalkick a colne managed to keep the ball for a bit,Gardner passing to harwood on the wing,He pass's back to barrett wainting in the centre. He returns the ball to harwood and Goodall and Lee Start a run..Harwood rolls it ahead of Goodall,He pings it ahead of lee in his stride. Lee way ahead of RB Francis has space to run into in the right side of the area. Advancing into the box Taylor get alongs side him and Hamer runs to narrrow the angle. Lee lets his shot go..and it's gone through Hamers legs and into the bottom left corner GOAL!!!!. And Lee has gone wild!, he runs to the Colne dug out and embraces Boss Monaghan before both get buried under a mound of red shirts. Charlton look shellshocked.Colne 1 Charlton 0 on 4 mins! what a start to the game!. Charlton almost reply from kick of Wagstaff finding himself one on with Ritchie, but again the young keeper somehow gets something to the shot and Thomas clears. Wright-Phillips getting alot of joy on the right wing against veteran rutter. The Colne box is under serious bombardment now. Wonderfull play around Colnes area sees fans on the edge of their seats.Stephens finally gets a sight...but powers the shot wide 9 mins. A long Goalkick from Ritchie Flicked on by Lee Goodall busts a gut to met the ball with Cort..Goodall amazingly gets the ball first but can't control his touch sending it out for a goalkick. Bit of dithering there from Cort.Thomas with a lax pass let Charlton counter! Kermorgant wide with four against 2 colne cbs!. Rafter follows and give away a freekick. Free kick is put way outside the box where Wright phillips prepares a long shot..but blocked by Lee who read the move 12 mins. So far most of Colne when Colne get the ball the lose posession too easilly. Wright-phillips make a good run down the right, but Rutter steals the ball as he pass's, plays the ball to Ritchie. He returns it to Rutter who fires a long ball forward he's spotted Harwood on his own with Charlton out of shape! He bombs toward the right side of the box, Charlton desparately tacking back. Lee and goodall making runs into the box, Farro on the left edge.Harwood rolls it across the box, it gos past Taylor and Lee and to Goodall!. He gets the ball under control must shot! he pass's it left?! To Farro he side foots it first time on an angle...GOAL!!! Its squeezed in that must have took some paint off the post it was that close!. Farro and the Colne fans are in raptures. He celebrates in front of the fans what a game! 14 mins. How has this happened Colne have been battered at times. It's like watching a rocky film they're taking everything Charlton can dish out and coming back hitting big. You couldn't write this, do not adjust your set that is colne in the red. Trading blows Charlton once again having the better of it but the Colne defence keeps getting it out of there. Charlton again get a freekick and put it out to Wright-phillips again he finds Kermorgant in a packed area, but he pass's it out again! the attack fizzles out. Poor play from the striker. Colne counter but can't get through to Charltons area. A cross from wiggins finds Kermorgant who heads it...cms over the crossbar. Colne living a chalmed life at the moment. A long ball finds Lee he egts into ball Cort pressing him all the way. Takes his Shot...but it curves wide. Colne fight back with some cross's into the box but Charlton manage to clear them 27 mins. Charlton loose their teeth in attack everything is easily clear or poorly passed to far ahead of players. Alonso atke a punt at a long shot..it almost graces the crossbar, it just won't go in for Charlton. A cross from Jackson finds Wright-phillips in the box but rafter makes a brilliant last ditch challenge beofre he can shoot.Charlton are all over Colne but the home team break when they have a chance to give them a scare. Farro and Gardner pass it back and forth and then mark space for Lee who Shoots...But Hamer does well to pluck it out of the air and hold it. Wright-Phillips makes a run down the right wing, runs right to the line. Three Charlton shirts in the box, but Wright-Phillips whips it to Alonso on the edge of the box. He hits it on the volly like a missle...GOAL!!! It almost ripped a hole through the net! Ritchie had no chance with that what a strike!. Charlton are well back in this one, Colne were hoping to get to half time with that lead it's going to be a tough time for them now..41 mins. Sensing blood Charlton throw the kitchen sink at Colne, but they managed to recover from that knock to hold out. HT

Again a fast paced game with Charlton just edging it . A bad challenge from francis means Farro has to come off, the fans give him a rousing send off. Lozano- Claderon comes on to play against his former club. Colne fight back and manage to pen Charlton back in there own half. Lozano-Calderon has some joy on the lef with Thomas forceing a corner. A short coner to harwood who's cross is cleared by Taylor Francis gives away a free kick pushing Harwood over while he re-collected the ball. The free kick is easily blocked out for a throw in but it's all Colne. Colne are all over Charlton but robbing Lozano-Calderon of the ball Charlton played a long ball to put Wright Phillips through he beared down on goal Rafter desperately chasing.....But he fired his shot into the side netting big let off for Colne 60 mins.Corner from charlton cleared by Dougan fall to Wiggins outside the box he fires...and blazes it over. Jackson puts Wright-Phillips on a run Rutter catchs his heel free-kick and it's a yellow he had to do that was only dougan who could have stopped him then. Wiggins puts the free kick beyond everyone and out. A chance for Kermorgant on the edge of the area but Ritchie holds on to that like a baby he's desparate not to get beat again.Lozano-Calderon shows turns his full backk and shows him a clean pair of heels putting in a cross. Charlton clear but give away a foul challenging for the loose ball outside the area.Colne play for posession playing it down the right flank where Rutter holds then wins a corner 70 mins.Dougan totally wastes the corner putting it beyond everyone.Leon Cort and Scott Wagstaff make way for Gary Doherty and Paul Hayes. A Wright-Phillips cross is clear with authority by Rafter, it's played along midfeld to Lozano-Calderon who make a cros to Goodall who does well to stop and set the ball just inside the area..but sub Doherty make an excellant challenge.Tom Rutter Leaves to make way for Jack Metcalf. The 34 year old was looking leggy after putting in a real shift for Colne today. He gets his due applause 74 mins. Its end to end stuff now and both team really go at it. Kermorgant take a long range effort which Ritchie again deals with. Both team match each other blow for blow Gardner putting Lee through who just can't get his shot off properly after being jostled by three Charlton defenders. The defenders of both teams make important tackles time and again but colne no just about edge it with the better chances. David Lee put through burst into the box but instead of trying to shoot past the centre backs pass's the ball to Loazano-Calderon on the wing, who duly cross's it to Harwood in space on the right side of the box but he can't keep his header down. Chris Powell plays his last roll of the dice bringing on Michael Morrison on for Matt Taylor 78 mins. Ten minutes of normal time left and both sets of fans are biting their nails.Lee wins a corner on the right flank. Barrett takes it this time a short one Harwood. It's block for another corner both fans hold ther breath. They let it out for different reasons as Barrett finds Lee who has a pop but hits Doherty and pinballs back of Lee and out for a goalkick.Charlton try to attack the right flank but Metcalf neatly robs Kermorgant. Charlton come back full force after having a free kick from the middle of the ball repelled alonso picks it up and lays it off to wiggins on the right flank. He put a wonderfull cross in Wright philiips and Rafter both jump for it and Wright- Phillips connects.....but is whistles just over the bar Ritchie may have had it covered but you never know 84 mins. Monaghan put on some fresh legs in the centre of midfeild taking Barrett off and sending Seaton on.Ritchie take his time with the goalkick charlton fans turning the air blue with their thoughts on the keeper. Panic setting in Charlton get alittle to rough giving away a couple of free kicks which colne use to the fullest drawing them out. Charlton fans baying for blood as Ritchie sets down the ball for a free kick when inury time is told to be 3 mins. The ball get back to charlton from the free kick and play it to Kermorgant who trys to lay it for Wright-Phillips but Rafter is on hand to snuff out the danger. Kermorgant fouls on trying to win the ball back on the wing 90 mins. This is it injury time and Ritchie is in no mood to hurry with this kick.the ball pinballs around as each side gain and lose the ball. Thomas finally thunps the ball down the pitch for a throw in.The throw is a bad one and Loazano-Calderon and Thomas gain work the ball up the left flank.Alonso and thomas fight fotr the ball and Thomas give away the foul.92.38 mins if Charlton do something this could be there last chance. This would be a big embarassment for Charlton, and a HUGE scalp for Colne. Hamer rushs up and pumps the ball upto Wright-Phillips,He heads it to Stephens,up to Jackson, along left to wiggins. He pumps the ball forwards................and the whistle has blown!! Colne have done it!. Monaghan runs onto the pitch to join his dubilant players. The Colne fans are loving this they never thopught they'd see this!. Even the Charlton fan give a polite clap back to teh Colne players who show their respect. Monaghan does a lap with his players to applaud the fans who turned up today. This is what the FA cup is all about but how many time do you actually see it.

What a win for you there how do you feel "Knackered I kicked every ball with them tonight I really did. To play like they just did it's what I came into this buisness for. We really played for each other out there, I couldn't have asked for more from them that it was top notch. I hope you have plenty of champagne cos they all deserve man of the match!.

Ha Ha what do you think of prehaps coming up against the like of premier league champions man united next round?
" Bring them on! haha, No we'll enjoy this win for today we've earned it. Tomorrow's another day and we'll get who we get, whoever it is we'll put 100% into and have no regrets.

So what are your plans now? Get some new pants cos I think I chewed a hole through these ones!. The lads get the day off from training tomorrow and they'll get a nice meal out tonight. Can't do much more than that at the moment cos we've a game coming up the 14th. But come the end of the season I think of something for the lads"

Thank you it's been a pleasure, now go and enjoy yourself. "Thank you"

Here man of the match David Lee how does it feel to win a match like this?. I can't explain it, we all just worked so hard for it think a few lads could have got this. The gaffer put his belief in us and it's great to go out there and get the results for him and the club.

A few Irish clubs have been noticing you. Would a move back home tempt you?. No i'm settled here now and scoring, I like the lads and we have a good crack. The manager is a top lad and really easy to get on with. As long as I'm scoring goals and playing I'm happy here. I'm keen to get them up into the next league if I ca do more great as long as the gaffer wants me here for I'll stay.

Congratulations on your man of the match here you champagne. Cheers

York also had gained a scalp today beating league two wycombe . But I can bet more than a few people willl have a little look to see who giant killers Colne will be drawn with in the next round....

Fa Cup Draw

A proud day for Colne as they sit among the top teams in the country in this FA Cup. Pretty much anybody would be a good draw for the Reds making it this far. A premier team would bring a great cash injection to the team and give the fans something to remember for a long time to come. The drawing getting under way a great tie for BSP Fleetwood as they drew a trip to Stamford Bridge and Chelsea. Holders Man city drew fellow Prem team Stoke. Colne yet again get a home draw this time they will face..............Birmingham!. A great time for the reds relagated Birmingham have had a tough season so far lying in mid table. The Birmingham team have just beat peterborough 4-1 after 3 straight defeats. They will see this as a chance to have a good FA Cup run after losing to rivals Wolves in the league cup quarter finals. Tickets are set to be snapped up after the last 2 rounds sold out at Holt house.

My laptop that has this game save has gone down trying to repair it now without losing my save. Will post soon to let you know if i'll be carrying on the story.

Had to restore the laptop to factory settings. So I've lost my save...gutted as I was really getting into the game. I had the league more or less sewn up amazing cup runs... I had just gone 3-0 up in the quarter final of the north west counties league cup when this problem hit. Gutted but will either start over with Colne or will start without a job and see where I end up. Thanks to anybody who took the time to read this story. At least this gives me a chance to make a better story right from the start this time, hopefully you will follow when I get the next story underway. P.S Any feedback would be very welcome
