3/12/11 Spalding 1-2 Colne FA Cup
The united Counties premier team were fighting Colne for a place in what you Could call the FA Cup Proper. Whoever won this tie had the chance at a plum tie with a league 1 or 2 team. Both team fought tooth and nail, David Lee drew first blood on 18 mins. Spalding wouldn't let the chance go easily and pulled back with a strike from Chris Connelly. A penalty won it for Colne just before half time david lee putting it away after having his legs taken out from under him. The cb pairing of rafter and Dougan proved to solid for spalding to breach again. Colne march on looking expectantly to the next drawing...
FA Cup Draw
With the numbered balls being drawn reds fan waited impatiently for their team to turn up..Team like Sheffield utd and Preston had already been drawn. Bradford at home to Chelmsford was the latest fixture, when it came Colne at home....The reds were to host Gillingham. Gillingham were under underacheiving in league 2 this year laying in 17th place, which could make this a tough fixture with them looking to boost their confidence against a non-league team. They were not the biggest league team in the draw but the reds fans had every right to feel happy with the draw their team had got.
7/12/11 Silsden 1-2 Colne
A tame performance by the reds usual standards saw them still somehow manage to take all 3 points from 3rd place Silsden. Silsden lead going into the first half 1 nil with Ross Foster scoring. David Lee brought Colne level just after the break on 49 mins. The a nightmare own goal from CB James Webb handed over all 3 points.
10/12/11 Colne 4-1 Alsager
A better showing against fellow promotion chasers Alsager. In a dominant performance David Lee, Ross Gardner and Ger Rafter all scored. Alsager fought back and got a goal for their troubles from Garry Banks but it was too little too late. Over stretching themselves they were then caught on the break and Danny Stokes was pushed into conceding an own goal.
14/12/11 AFC Liverpool 0-3 Colne
They say bad luck comes in threes and AFC Liverpool were the third team in a row to concede an own goal against the reds!. David lee enjoyed his day in merseyside scoring on either side of the own goal to put the game beyond all doubt.
17/12/11 Maine Road 0-4 Colne
Next was a trip to manchester who Colne have enjoyed playing at before. Today was no different with the team of David Lee and Leeroy Chinthengah ripping Maine Roads defence to shreds. Lee started things off on 9 mins, Cm John Seaton followed on 14 mins. Chinthengah put the game to bed with sweet strikes on 18 and 59 mins. The only downer was Excellant Lb Lewis Thomas picking in an injury.
21/12/11 Colne 5-1 Holker OB FA Vase 1st Rd
Colne showed they meant buisness in the FA vase demolishing underdogs Holker.Strikers Lee and Goodall paired up and each bagged a goal. Ger Rafter outdid both getting a wonderful brace, With CM Barrett rounding up the scoring. On 80 mins Holker did make a parting shot with Gareth Driscoll scoring. Lozano-Calderon also limped off in added time to take some shine off the win.
28/12/11 Colne ?-? Gillingham FA Cup
Colne prepared for their late christmas present a plum home tie with Gillingham. And Holt House was packed to capacity as the 1800 crowd waited for kick off. But would this be a late present to savour..or would it leave a worse taste in the mouth than a marmite selection box??...
Well the first ten minutes were tense for the reds fans Gillingham looked to finish colne off quick. Young Keeper Ritchie had to pull off a good save and keep hold of it, after a Luke Rooney shot to keep it level on 8 mins. The defense was pushed when veteren full back rutter gave away a free kick, but held firm clearing the ball. Colne then with some time on the ball pushed forward themselves. Winger Harwood bombed down the winger passing the ball froward to David Lee. Gills Cb King slid in well to take the ball away from Lee, But Harwood had been following and pounched on the ball. He curved a ball to the far side of the area. There waiting was Eric Farro with nobody picking him up just inside the area. He took the ball down, set it and GOAL!!! Eric Farro slotted the ball into the near Corner of the net. The Reds fans erupted Colne were actually leading against a league team!. On a high Colne went for it with Goodall just putting a strike wide to further the lead. The gills didn't lay down though and desperately pushed for a leveller. Cb dougan and Rafter were in the form of their life heading and sliding in to stop repeated attacks. Cm Barret pick up a yellow after a miss-timed tackle on Luke Rooney on 21 mins the game was hotting up..
On the ropes Colne launched into a counter attack Harwood playing it up to Lee who lost Gills CB Hampton completely but could only find the side netting with his strike. Colne sensing blood pushed on still further. Harwood again bombing down the wing he put in a cross to the near corner and a waiting Lee., But gills Cm Payne heading it away just in time. Harwood on fire then won a free kick as gillingham resorted to hacking him down. Farro took the kick, aimed straight at Harwood Who flicked it on to CB Rafter who blasted a shot at goal....But Gills striker Ford Cleared it off the Line for a corner. Farro Whipped the Corner into the box where it sailed into the centre of the area and was met by an explosive header from CM Ross Gardner.....GOAL!!!!!!. The Colne faithfull were in dreamland 2-0 the small counties league club in the FA cup proper for the first time in their history!. Gillingham lost all their fight and only their keeper stopped Shaun Goodall making it 3 tipping a thunderbolt over the bar HT.
Colne then ran Gillingham ragged passing th ball round with some neat passing . Gillingham fustrations boiled over coming to a head with Fuller heading for an early bath red carded for a dangerous challenge from behind on Eric faro. Down to ten men it was a step too much to come back from, and Colne finished of the game in great style with some exhibition football.
A sensational game all round for the Colne side against a shell shocked Gillingham side who thought they only had to turn up today.The champagne went to Farro for his goal and tireless work on the left wing although Harwood could just as easily taken the man of the match gong, both were outstanding. FINAL SCORE COLNE 2-0 GILLINGHAM.
31/12/11 Bacup 1-4 Colne
Back down to earth with a cold New years eve at Bacup. Shaun Goodall had a great end to the new year getting a Hat-trick.David Lee finished the scoring with his 50th goal in all competitons in 31 games!.
Huge Home Fixture for the Reds!!
The FA Cup draw was once again here. Colne were the Lowest level Non-league Club Left in the competition. And if they managed to get through this round they could well find themselves drawn with the likes of man united, chelsea or liverpool!. Colne didn't have long to wait this time being the 2nd fixure drawn. Barnet were drawn at home to Port Vale. The Colne were pulled out of the bowl another home fixture this time against.......Charlton!!. Colne had drawn League 1 Promotion hopefulls Charlton 4th place in the league. A massive task for Monaghan and his lads to overcome.
Monaghan was keeping his feet on the ground but excited at the prospect of hosting former premier league Charlton. "It's a fantastic draw one of if not THE hardest team of the draw. We know it will be a very hard game, but we're taking this one game at a time. We will be major major underdogs for sure but you never know people wrote us off against Gillingham."
Colne will also have to this time contend with being under the gaze of the nation, as ITV have chosen to take their cameras to Holt House for the FA cup fixture against Charlton. So lads no pressure eh?!...
