Overview/Aims

Celta was founded in 1923. After lingering in Spain's top 2 divisions, they pushed on and achieved 4th in the Liga BBVA in 2003, qualifying for the UEFA Champions League for the first time. Whilst they reached the Round of 16 getting eventually being knocked out by Arsenal - 'The Invincibles', they finished 19th in La Liga, and were therefore relegated to Liga Adelante. In the 08-09 season Celta finished 17th in Liga Adelante, almost being relegated to Spain's 3rd tier. Since then Celta have steadied their sinking ship, In 11-12 they were promoted back to La Liga, and finished 9th in 13-14. Can the Surging Spaniards continue their progress, and challenge with the best in Spain and Europe once again?

Facilities/Finances

We have a stadium which is almost 100 years old, but holds 32000 which is plenty for our club currently. Our facilities our fairly good, but I feel they need upgrading if we are to challenge with the best. We have 19 million euros in the bank, and the club is estimated to be worth 65 million. I'm wasn't expecting to be given much of a budget, and I was given 1 million euros to spend with little wage budget. This means I want to keep most of the squad we have intact.

Key Players

Nolito

View attachment 288169

Nolito is a very technically gifted player, who could be vital to us.

Andreu Fountas

View attachment 288164

A strong defensive player, could be our rock at the back.

Fabio Orellana

View attachment 288160

The tricky Chiliean seems an out an out winger. A different player to Nolito, but I'm hoping they will be big for us on the wings

Jonny

View attachment 288158

Only 20 but Jonny should be key for us, I'm hoping he can develop into a world-class fullback.

Prospects

Santi Mina

View attachment 288157

Can play anyway in the final third, at 18 Santi Mina looks very promising.

Ruben Blanco

View attachment 288156

Hopefully will be our keeper for the future, only 2nd choice right now though.

One thing to note, 3/4 of the players mentioned are wanted by other big clubs, the likes of Atletico, Valencia and Porto. I'm really hoping we can keep the core of the squad together, and they don't get distracted by bigger teams' interest.

August Review

Transfers

I was given little budget, so therefore looked to players I could bring in on loan rather than permanently. I was beaten to a few big loan signings, Jose Gimenez went to Everton on loan, and Hector Bellerin went to AC Milan.

Rafinha, Sergi Samper & Sandro

View attachment 288004 View attachment 288003 View attachment 288002

We managed to bring in 3 youngsters from Barca. I was surprised to see Rafinha on the loan list, so I snapped him up as soon as possible. He will be our starting CAM, I am hoping he can be big for us this year. I expect Sergi Samper and Sandro will act as rotation players.

Mehdi Abeid

View attachment 288000

A fairly versatile player, we bring Abeid on for the season from Newcastle.

A few youngsters went out on loan, but that was it on the outs. I looked to move on a few ageing rotation players, but no offers came in that met my evaluation of the players.

Tactics

View attachment 287994 View attachment 287993

We will look to play a discplined game defensively, but break forward quickly in numbers. Against bigger teams we will bring the CAM back to DM.

Results

24/08/14 - Celta v Getafe

View attachment 287044

We dominated here and should've won, we let them back into the game and they punished us with a late equaliser.

31/08/14 - Cordoba v Celta

View attachment 287985

We went 1-0 up and they eqaulised straight away. Again we were the better team but failed to punish them.

Liga BBVA

View attachment 287984

We have 2 points after 2 games, we should've had 6 points really. We will see if we can turn good performances into points.

Fixtures

View attachment 287980

Our biggest test over the next few months is Atletico away, some good opportunites to push on in the league table.

Cheers boys. Yeah I know, high hopes for him! Couldn't believe it when he accepted the offer. Yeah I had a look at him, I wanted a CB but couldn't afford one.

September-October Review

Results

14/09/14 - Celta v Real Sociedad

View attachment 287584

We were the better team and deserved at least a point, if not the win. David Moyes' side get away with a lucky win meaning we have a disappointing start to the season with 2 points from 3 games.

20/09/14 - Atletico v Celta

View attachment 287583

This was always going to be a tough game, but we gave the champions a good game which was pleasing. We were 1-0 up however they showed their quality, including a screamer from Mario Suarez.

24/09/14 - Celta v Deportivo

View attachment 287582

Finally get our first win after a late winner from Orellana, who has started the season fantastically. I was starting to worry that we would start the season with 3 points from 5 games after being the better team in most of the games, but Orellana sent the fans wild with a very late goal.

27/09/14 - Elche v Celta

View attachment 287572

We outclassed them and deserved the win. Young Santi Mina scored the winner, and became the youngster goalscorer ever for the club.

05/10/14 - Celta v Villarreal

View attachment 287573

Great performance and result at home to a decent Villarreal side, Rafinha was incredible continuing his brilliant form, he scored a beauty as well.

18/10/14 - Athletic Club v Celta

View attachment 287574

We were outclassed, maybe my fault as we set up to win the 3 points, ends our 3 game winning streak.

24/10/14 - Celta v Levante

View attachment 287575

Back to winning ways at home to Levante. We were in control of the game from start to finish and box-to-box midfielder Medina got the headed winner from a late free kick, just as I was thinking it was one of those days. This meant we had won 4 out of our last 5.

Transfer News

3 players have been sold and will leave in January.

Andreu Fontas / Sporting CP - 8.5 million euros

View attachment 287577

He kept complaining as he wanted to play in Europe, he has been fairly awful so far so I had no problem with him leaving. A number of clubs were interested but Sporting will sign him for a fee of 8.5 million euros. This means we will be short at the back once he leaves, so I will be looking to bring someone in in January.

Augusto Fernandez / Celtic - 6.5 million euros

View attachment 287578

He wasn't to happy and a lot of teams were interested including Everton and Celtic. He is only a back up so I gladly agreed to sell him for a good price.

Pablo Hernandez / Krasnador - 2.9 million euros

View attachment 287586

Similar case to Fernandez, wasn't up to scratch and clubs were interested so we secured a deal with Russian side Krasnador.

Liga BBVA

View attachment 287579

Sitting nicely in 7th after a good run of games in October after a slow start. The performances have always been there, and it is very pleasing that we are finally turning dominant performances into points. Barca and Real Madrid looking very strong and already streaking away.

Fixtures

View attachment 287581

Tough test away at Barcelona, however some easier games including Eibar, Granada and Almeria all at home.

Also other news, the board have agreed to upgrade both junior coaching and youth facilities.

November-December Review

Results

01/11/14 - Barcelona v Celta

View attachment 287473

Was always going to be hard going to the Nou Camp. We had the first real chance though, Orellana hit the bar from 25 yards out. However they were 4-0 up at half time and the game was over.

08/11/14 - Celta v Granada

View attachment 287472

I singled this game out last month as a home game we need to be winning. We dominated and got the goal. As I was walking back to the dressing room thinking the game was over we concede in the 94th minute, and come away with only a point. This is the game we will look back on at the end of the season and know we should've won.

23/11/14 - Rayo v Celta

View attachment 287470

We bounce back in some style. We destroyed Rayo from start to finish in their arena. Our striker Larrivey scored his first 2 goals of the season, until now neither him or Charles, our other ST had scored 1 goal. A promising game on which we need to build on.

29/11/14 - Celta v Eibar

View attachment 287469

A dominant win, but nothing less than I expected against minnows Eibar. Young GK Ruben Blanco started his 3rd game of the season, keeping his 2nd clean sheet. He is quickly becoming our first choice keeper. Charles also grabbed his first goals of the season.

6/12/14 - Lugo v Celta

View attachment 287468

Lugo sit 11th in Liga Adelante. We started a weakened team, but made it difficult for ourselves as we were 2-1 down at half time. Jonny and Nolito came on changed the game. The tie should be over with a 2 goal advantage coming back to Balaidos.

14/12/14 - Malaga v Celta

View attachment 287467

We threw 3 points away here. 2-1 up we pushed for the dagger, but Malaga game back and won the game, we fell to pieces in the end. Again we were the better team with more shots and possession, but we couldn't turn a good performance into points.

17/12/14 - Celta v Lugo

View attachment 287466

After a poor result vs Malaga, I started a strong team as I wanted to rebuild confidence amongst the squad before the Almeria game. Orellana has been off-form recently. A solid performance though, we are through and will face Granada in the next round.

20/12/14 - Celta v Almeria

View attachment 287465

A good solid win, exactly what we needed, a return to winning ways in the league. Although I expected a win, Almeria are struggling in 19th. Sergi Gomez and Krohn-Dehli had good games.

Transfer News

Our top players continue to attract attention from some of Europe's biggest sides.

Jonny

View attachment 287522

Our young full back has been top class for us so far this season, he currently averages 7.34 per game. Chelsea have been rumoured to be interested, and he is certain he wants to go as soon as possible. I couldn't even get him to stay until the end of the season. I would love Jonny to stay as he has so much potential and genuinely could be one of the best full backs in world football, but if an offer comes in, sadly we will struggle to keep him.

Michael Krohn-Dehli

View attachment 287518

Our DLP wants to leave to play for Everton. I convinced him to stay until the end of the season. Everton came in with an offer of around 2.5 millions euros which i rejected. I have no problems with him leaving as he is ageing and hasn't been that great so far.

January Targets

We need a defender to replace Fountas. I have been looking at a few players, Nikola Maksimovic from Torino, and Eric Sviatchenko from FC Midtjylland and my main targets. Maksimovic is very versatile and could be a replacement for Jonny should we be forced into selling him.

View attachment 287478 View attachment 287477

We are also in need of a back up keeper, however I am yet to find a suitable target. We also may have to deal with departures if top clubs continue to pursue our players. This would of course mean we have to find replacements.

Injury News

Sergio Alverez

View attachment 287511

As i mentioned, 19 year old Ruben Blanco has become our first choice GK. However it is never nice to see a player injured for such a long time. We will need to bring in a back up in January, or look to our B squad for a replacement.

Liga BBVA

View attachment 287475

We are sitting nicely in 6th position. Would love a top 6 finish at the end of the year, although it will be hard to catch anyone above us and I expect Sevilla to climb the table sooner rather than later. Rafinha (7.46), Orellana (7.35) and Jonny (7.32) all sit in the top 20 for average rating in the league. Barca have some work to catch Real at the top, although Messi has already scored 19!

Fixtures

January Transfer Window

Out

Andreu Fontas
/ Sporting CP - 8.5 million euros.

View attachment 287153

Fontas has joined Sporting CP for 8.5 million euros as previously agreed. Not much to say apart from he was moaning as he wanted to play in Europe, and in my eyes he isn't worth that type of money, so I was happy to sell him.

Augusto Fernandez / Celtic - 6.5 million euros

View attachment 287151

When clubs were interested and I saw how much we could get for him, there was no way I was going to pass up this chance.

Pablo Hernandez / Krasnador - 2.9 million euros

View attachment 287150

Wasn't happy with lack of football and was only ever a back up player, so I sold him.

Theo Bogonda / Ponfredinia - Loan

View attachment 287149

Has been absent from training a couple times, can tell he isn't going to progress. Trying to get rid of him but couldn't get him permanently.

Players In

Nikola Maksimovic / Torino - 8 million euros

View attachment 287146

Very excited by this signing. He is a defensive player who is very versitile, still with lots of time to grow. He had an excellent start to the season for struggling Torino, so I see this as a better replacement for Fountas.

Eric Sviatchenko
/ FC Midtjylland - 2 million euros

View attachment 287145

We triggered his release clause, and we have got an absolute bargain. Similarly to Maksimovic he has had an outstanding start to the year, hopefully both players can continue their great form.

Paulo Gazinniga / Southampton - Loan

View attachment 287144

We have brought him in on loan until the end of the season as back up to Ruben Blanco. Only did this as Sergio Alvarez out for the season.

Jonny

View attachment 287165

He's staying!

View attachment 287156 View attachment 287155

Bruno from Villarreal to Real Madrid is the biggest transfer, he is having a great season averaging 7.74 so its no surprise they snapped him up.

Tactic

View attachment 287143 View attachment 287142

Just an update on the tactic we have been playing, and our First XI after the transfer window.

04/01/15 - Sevilla v Celta

View attachment 287111

A poor 2nd half performance. We started the better team and looked more likely to score, but once they got 1 the game was seemingly over.

07/01/15 - Granada v Celta

View attachment 287113

A poor result away at Granada. Maksmimovic scored on his debut perhaps the only positive, as well as the fact we are still in the tie coming home.

10/01/15 - Celta v Valencia

View attachment 287110

A great result against a good Valencia side! Exactly what we needed before another big game at home to Granada in the cup. Our home form has been brilliant, we need to improve away from home though. Another good performance from Rafinha, and Krohn-Dehli is becoming more important and keeps on improving.

14/01/15 - Celta v Granada

View attachment 287112

A win would see us through to the Spanish Cup quarter finals, which is where the board expects us to get to. But a 2-1 win means we lose on aggregate 4-3. The two teams were fairly equal so I'm not too disappointed that Granada went through over us. It would've been nice to challenge for some silverware but it does mean we can concentrate on the league.

18/01/15 - Espanyol v Celta

View attachment 287109

This game was a must win as it was a proper 6 pointer, and we pulled it off! A brilliant performance, we dominated them the whole game, and desevedly won. Finally we get a win on the road If we had taken all our chances it could've been 5 or 6. Rafinho POTM with 2 assists.

24/01/15 - Getafe v Celta

View attachment 287108

Another big away game away at Getafe. We looked like we would lose, but a last minute penalty tucked away by Nolito settled the game, with both teams going away with a point. Our away form is turning.

01/02/15 - Celta v Cordoba

View attachment 287107

Dominant win against the struggling Cordoba who are last in the table. Nothing less than I would've expected, meaning we continue out fantastic home form. Orellana and Nolito had a great game, great to see Orellana back on form. - (This game is only in this update because i forgot to screenshot the table before).

Liga BBVA

View attachment 287119

Cant believe how well we are doing! We are still in 6th place, but we are only 2 points behind champions Atletico who are in a Champions League spot. Would love to challenge for a UCL spot this season, even though I wasn't expecting to this year. We have opened up a decent gap to the mid-table. Real Madrid looking unstoppable, would take something special from Barca to beat them from here. Valencia have won every game since loosing to us.

Fixtures

View attachment 287118

Some huge games including Atletico and Athletic both at home, as well as a huge test at the Bernabeu. If we could continue our good run we could put in a genuine challenge for a Champions League spot, although I would be more than happy settling for a top 6 position.

08/02/15 - Real Sociedad v Celta

View attachment 287083

View attachment 287063

A poor game decided by a penalty, we didn't deserve a win but we definitely deserved to come away with at least a point. This means we have lost both games to struggling Sociedad.

14/02/15 - Celta v Atletico

View attachment 287062

View attachment 287061

What a result! We beat the champions Atletico 2-1, in a top quality performance. Sviatchenko scores his first goal for the club and Charles put away a tidy finish in the 80th minute. Raul Garcia's wonder strike proved to be only a consolation. This proves we can really mix it with the big boys! Huge result puts us only 2 points behind Atletico with a game in hand!

21/02/15 - Deportivo v Celta

View attachment 287055

View attachment 287054

Disappointing that we couldn't hang on for the 3 points against our rivals, but I guess a draw is a fair result. This means we haven't lost to them this season.

Transfer News

View attachment 287047

Sandro came to me asking me to terminate his loan, he has been very poor and isn't really needed so I agreed.

Liga BBVA

View attachment 287046

Still in 6th after another month, however we have games in hand over teams above. We are still in with a right chance of qualifying for the Champions League, which would be a sensational achievement! Rafinha and Orellana who were our best players for the first few months have dropped off, we need them back on form! However Nolito is constantly improving.

Fixtures

View attachment 287045

A tough run of games coming up. My personal aim is 9 points from the next 5 games, and not lose to Athletic which is a huge game.

Note - All updates will be monthly until the end of the season, also I added match stats which I hope you enjoy!

Youth Intake

Really excited by some of the prospects that have been produced by our youth system. Looks like investing in our youth system has paid off!

View attachment 286988

Here are the three prospects I am most excited about.

Manu Aguilera

View attachment 286987

One of the most exciting players produced, and rated as having the most potential by my assistant.

Kevin Tello

View attachment 286986

Already has some great technical attributes, hopefully can become something big one day! Although some poor mental attributes are concerning.

Juan Jose Navarro

View attachment 286985

The player I am looking forward to the most. Looks great already, I believe this guy could also be big for us some time. He is fast, has great technique and is determined, some great starting attributes.
