After his brilliant season last year, Nolito was wanted by the big clubs all around Europe. He had a release clause of 18 million euros, which was met by Arsenal. Sadly before I arrived at the club, it was agreed that Benfica would recieve 50% of his next transfer fee, meaning we only received 9 million euros. A big loss, but it gave me something to work with in the window. We would need to replace him.

Awful last year, he scored 2 goals in about 20 games last season. He was on 48K a week, so I got rid of him as soon as the window opened. Lokomotiv Moscow were the club to take the plunge on the ageing striker. It looks like he is still struggling so far this season.

I didn't need to sell him, but he was also on a large wage, and I didn't think he was good enough. Almeria picked him up, we will see what happens when we face Almeria and Charles this season.

I didnt need to sell this guy either. But he was unhappy, in his last year of his contract, and he is now 32, so I cashed in on him while I could. Russian champions Rubin will sign him.
These are the key sales, there were also some other sales of back up players who simply were not good enough. Theo Bogonda seems talented but is not disciplined, so I sold him too.
Players In
Obviously we have sold some players who were fairly key for us last year. This meant that we needed to make some big moves in the transfer market, if our ambitions are to be met this year.
Rafinha / Barcalona - 2 Seasons

We have got him back! For 2 more season! So happy that Rafinha is back at the club for another 2 seasons. He was easily one of our best players last year, quickly becoming a key member of the squad. In 34 league games he scored 10 and assisted 7 from centre midffield, averaging 7.22. Hopefully he can be even better over the next 2 seasons for us.
Bruno Zuculini / Manchester City - 3.8 million euros

We would've preferred other players. Allan Marques went to Atletico, Krannevitter was too expensive, so we settled for Zuculini. He wouldn't have been given a chance at City, so we were able to snap him up for cheap. We signed him for 3.7 million euros, he is now worth 7.5 million. He was on loan at Cordoba last year who got relegated, but he was the bright spark in their team, averaging 7.06. Hopefully he can partner Rafinha, in a box to box role in the centre of the park.
Gabriel Barbosa / Santos - 12 million euros

We got our man up top. And boy is he good. I have never had this guy in FM before, but I can already see I have been missing out. I was going to look for an older more developed striker, but his current ability was scouted at 4*, way better than Larrivey's and Charles and he is only 18! He has already improved loads in game, hopefully he can continue his development as well as solve our problem up top! By the way, we signed him for 12 million, he is already with 26 million
Jese / Real Madrid - 3.7 million euros

He was put on the transfer list near the end of the transfer window. I was out of funds, but I spoke to the board, and they provided the extra funds and signed him for me. 3.7 million is an absolute steal, he should fill the void left by Nolito comfortably.
Lucas Piazon / Chelsea - Loan

I signed Piazon before we signed Jese. He was going to be Nolito's replacement for the season. He will compete for a place in the squad with Jese, Orellana and Rafinha. He was poor last season at Frankfurt, hopefully his fortunes can change this year with Celta.
Santi Mina and David Costas

These younger players will play a much bigger role in the first team than they have before. Santi Mina is now essntially our back-up striker. David Costas was superb last year at En Evant Guingamp, he won player of the season there. He will rotate and act as our 3rd centre back.

I wanted to bring in 1 more CM, as we got rid of quite a few. Jonathan De Guzman was available for cheap, but we simply ran out of money. I feel we lack depth in some positions, hopefully we won't get into injury trouble! But I do feel our squad is better overall. I really want to make the top 4 this season, lets go!
