Chelsea 0 - 0 West Brom
FA Premier League
1256_salomon_kalou.jpg

West Brom were delighted, but very fortunate to escape Stamford Bridge with a point, after they were totally hammered by Chelsea. A mixture of poor finishing, and great goalkeeping led to a very frustrating result for the Chelse manager.

Buoyed by the return of Alex and Cech, Chelsea went for the diamond formation which normally works so well at home with Anelka and Sturridge up front, and they created plenty of trouble for the West Brom defence, turning them inside and out, and after 20 minutes, the Blues looked to have taken the lead when Daniel Sturridge found space to slam home past the keeper, only to have another goal disallowed this season.

In the second half, the game continued in the same vein, Kalou replaced Sturridge as Chelsea pushed for that vital breakthrough. Alex hit the bar with a thunderous free-kick and Anelka saw his tame effort parried by Carson.

But it wasn't to be, and although West Brom didn't have a single shot on target, they left with a solitary point, one with which manager Roberto di Matteo will be delighted with, after setting his team out brilliantly to frustrate the Blues.

The statistics tell the story of the whole game. Chelsea shots 22 to West Brom's 5, Possession 60:40. Definitely a case of 2 points dropped.

Chelsea Squad: Cech, Cole, Terry, Alex, Ivanovic, Essien, Ramires (Benayoun 77), Lampard, Malouda (Kakuta 55), Sturridge (Kalou 64), Anelka
Unused subs: Hilario, Ferreira, Mikel, Gökhan Töre

DIDIER DROGBA RETURNS TO FULL TRAINING FOR CHELSEA
Chelsea+Training+Press+Conference+JuBErlQ1tvrl.jpg

Following his injury whilst on Ivory Coast duty, Drogba was out injured for 3 weeks, and it's fair to say that Chelsea have missed his cutting edge up front. He returns to training today, and should be available for next weekends game against Blackpool.

Just like to thank everone who's commented :) Hope you're enjoying it as much as I am

Frank has had a brilliant month, not least his hat-trick in the Charity Shield and he has rightfully earned the first monthly award for the Blues. Hopefully he can continue this good form into September.t

Blackpool 0 - 3 Chelsea
FA Premier League

Chelsea grabbed their second victory of the season in a relatively straight-forward game at Bloomfield Road. A brace from Anelka and an Essien cracker won the day.

Chelsea dominated from the off, as many expected, although early on they were caught on the counter-attack, with Gary Taylor-Fletcher going close.

But Anelka was in one of those moods and he grabbed two goals in the space of 5 minutes. Drogba, back from injury after his lay-off, flicked the ball on to Anelka who passed beneath Kingson, before he doubled his tally with a close range header, following Zhirkov's cross.

After half-time, a number of youngster's were introduced. Kakuta came on for Ashley Cole, and ran riot in the middle of the park. His shot was deflected into Essien's path and he lashed it high into the near top corner for his first goal of the season.

Borini came on for his first appearance of the season and had a good chance to make it 4, but substitute Matt Gilks made a superb reaction stop.

Altogether, Blackpool were no match for the Champions, who eased to victory at Bloomfield Road.

Chelsea Squad: Cech, Cole (Kakuta 58), Alex, Terry, Ferreira, Mikel, Essien, Lampard, Zhirkov, Anelka (Sturridge 77), Drogba (Borini 65)
Unused subs: Turnbull, Ivanovic, Benayoun, Kalou

Bursaspor 1 - 2 Chelsea
UEFA Champions League Group Stage

Chelsea knew coming into this game that there was no such thing as an easy Champions League tie, and that proved the case at Bursaspor this afternoon. Despite a plucky resistance, a late Michael Essien goal gave Chelsea their first Champions League victory of the season.

Chelsea lined up almost the same as against Blackpool, except Kalou came in for the suspended Drogba, leading the line. And it proved effective at first, Chelsea got a hold of the game, and played the ball around nicely. They found goalkeeper Ivankov in good form however, as he pulled off a couple of magnificent saves, most notably to deny an Alex header and a Zhirkov one-on-one.

But just after half an hour, Zhirkov broke the deadlock for Chelsea, latching on to a clearance from Ferreira to outpace the defence, before rounding the keeper and tapping into the open net for his first Chelsea goal.

Just before half time though, Bursaspor answered back, Sercan Yildirim, the youngest member of the Turkish national side, hit an absolute belter from just outside the box to level things, and give Chelsea a tough second half.

It proved that way. Malouda replaced Zhirkov with twenty minutes to go and should have made it 2-1 when he raced clear, only to be denied by the fantastic Ivankov.

But no-one was to deny Essien as he drove through the heart of the Bursaspor midfield before lashing it into the far corner. A great hard-fought victory from Chelsea in Turkey, and the manager was clearly delighted with the outcome.

Chelsea Squad: Cech, Cole, Ivanovic, Terry, Ferreira, Mikel, Essien, Lampard (Woods 85), Zhirkov (Malouda 64), Kalou, Anelka (Sturridge 86)
Unused subs: Turnbull, Benayoun, Alex, Mellis

Chelsea 2 - 0 Wigan
FA Premier League
2essien-ai_1713409c.jpg

Chelsea were rarely troubled as they cruised to a 2-0 victory, courtesy of goals from Frank Lampard and, once again, Michael Essien. Didier Drogba won man of the match, as he demonstrated what Chelsea were missing without him, leading the line brilliantly and holding up play with expert technique.

Wigan were tenacious at first, and were making a couple of half-chances, but Chelsea stood strong in defence, as ever, and they finally made the breakthrough after half-an-hour. The ball was played long to Drogba who held the ball up superbly before laying a pass through the defence for Michael Essien who blasted home first time, advantage Chelsea.

And straight after half-time, Drogba was at it again, this time playing in a through ball for Zhirkov, who was about to pull the trigger from 5 yards but was brought down rashly by a Liam Rosenior challenge. Up stepped Frank Lampard to slam home his 3rd penalty of the campaign and give Chelsea a nice 2 goal cushion.

Kalou made an appearance second half, but another lacklustre display from him led to the manager announcing that he would be having a week's break from first-team duties, and will instead be playing for the reserves to find some form. His display was topped off with a gaping miss, slamming high and wide from 3 yards when Sturridge cross the ball along the box.

When Drogba was replaced by Benayoun, he was given a standing ovation by the Chelsea fans. His role is critical, and that was proven in the last 15 minutes as Chelsea failed to hold onto the ball in the final third, a problem the manager will need to address when they are forced to play without him.

Chelsea Squad: Cech, Cole, Alex, Terry, Ferreira, Mikel, Essien, Lampard, Zhirkov (Kalou 65), Anelka (Sturridge 69), Drogba (Benayoun 82)
Unused subs: Walker, Ivanovic, Phillip, Borini

Everton 1 - 1 Chelsea
(Chelsea win 5-3 on penalties)
Carling Cup 3rd Round
109359hp2.jpg

Chelsea will be delighted with this result, having played 6 reserve players in their team against a full-strength Everton, and the result wasn't undeserved. Chelsea took the lead through Daniel Sturridge before Yakubu pegged them back. Paulo Ferreira took the winning penalty after Phil Neville's was saved by Hilario.

Chelsea lined up in their diamond formation, with Anelka and Sturridge spearheading it. The two strike up a potent partnership, and they were constantly searching for and finding each other in a first half which Chelsea dominated. Early on, Sturridge broke free thanks to an Anelka pass only to skew his shot wide.

But after half an hour, they finally broke the deadlock, Anelka playing the most delightful of through balls and Sturridge took a touch before sidefooting it past a shell-shocked Howard.

Considering the clear lack of strength in Chelsea's starting XI, it was understandable that Moyes cut an angry figure on the sideline, as he tried to urge his side back into the game.

In the second half, Chelsea were forced into two changes, John Terry picked up a knock and was replaced by Branislav Ivanovic and more importantly Daniel Sturridge was forced off just after half-time to be replaced by 17 year old Adam Phillip. The youngster stood his own up front, and gave Anelka a good chance to double the lead, but he was unable too.

And Chelsea were punished when a nice Saha flick on was met by substitute Yakubu to level the tie. The game remained pulsating and end-to-end, with both teams searching for that elusive winner, and Everton appeared to be on top. They were unable to capitalise however, and the game went in to penalties.

Hilario was hthe hero on the day as he parried Phil Neville's weak penalty and won the game for the Blues.

Chelsea Team: Hilario, Zhirkov, Bruma, Terry (Ivanovic 45), Ferreira, Mikel, Benayoun, Woods (Essien 58), Kakuta, Sturridge (Phillip 48), Anelka
Unused subs: Cech, Malouda, Lampard, Drogba

DANIEL STURRIDGE AND JOHN TERRY TO FACE UP TO 3 WEEKS ON THE SIDELINES
-John-Terry-reacts-to-the-002.jpg

Chelsea suffered a blow today as they learned the extent of the injuries suffered by John Terry and Sturridge against Everton. The duo will definitely miss the trip to Birmingham and the home games against Olympiakos and Newcastle.

Great story mate, shall be stealing your idea for fm2011(H) tehe! Keep it up!

Chelsea 2 - 0 Newcastle
FA Premier League
article-1257682-08B3F468000005DC-435_468x373.jpg

Didier Drogba's first goal of the season and Alex's wonderful last minute free-kick contributed to a solid home win this afternoon, although it wasn't all plain sailing as Newcastle put up a tough fight. The match also saw the return from injury for Jose Bosingwa, previously out for 6 months.

Chelsea struggled once more to break a team down, with Kalou and Malouda particularly dissapointing as the Blues looked to be short of ideas in the final third. Newcastle offered very little going forward, as Mikel kept tabs on a normally lively Hatem Ben Arfa.

It took until the second half for their resistance to be overcome, Didier Drogba lashing home substitute Yury Zhirkov's through ball for his first goal of the season and he will look to push on from here.

The big man is relishing the role up front by himself and he was constantly making chances for those around him, in form Essien missing a glorious opportunity soon after, blasting over when he should really have scored.

But the victory was made certain in the 4th minute of injury time. Substitute Gökhan Töre made a nuisance of himself on the right hand side and was brought down by Jose Enrique. Up stepped Alex and he rifled in a fantastic free-kick which Xisco headed into his own net, although it almost took his head off, such was the power.

A deserved victory for the Blues who, if they can continue to grind out these kinds of results, will be odds on to retain their title this season.

Chelsea Team: Cech, Bosingwa, Alex, Ivanovic, Cole, Essien, Lampard, Anelka (Gökhan Töre 73), Kalou (Mikel 62), Malouda (Zhirkov 65), Drogba
Unused subs: Hilario, Ferreira, Benayoun, Borini

haha seems that newcastle game was simmilar to arsenal on sunday with a Drogba goal and a Alex wonder freekick towards the end :P :)

ha yeah it basically was that game, except they had basically no possession whatsoever, we just couldn't finish :L

Chelsea 4 - 2 Olympiakos
UEFA Champions League Group Stage
lens2006346_1212025110champions_league_logo.jpg

An incredible goalscoring display from Alex led Chelsea to victory against a plucky Olympiakos side. Chelsea were expected to win from the outside, but it was nevertheless a great win, only marred by an injury to Salomon Kalou.

Alex, who was unfortunate not to be given the goal against Newcastle after Xisco deflected it in, did get his first official goal of the season after just quarter of an hour, slamming a powerful header beyond the reach of Nikopolidis thanks to Zhirkov's corner.

And minutes later, Nicolas Anelka doubled the scoreline, sliding home after an excellent Kakuta through ball. The 18 year old French midfielder fitted in perfectly with the diamond formation, and ran riot in between the Olympiakos lines. His movement caused problems for the Greek side, and he was brought down 35 yards from goal after trying to get past Galletti.

Up stepped Alex again and this time there was no contesting that it was his goal. He struck a fantastic free-kick right into the top corner of the net, beyond the reach of the Greek veteran goalkeeper.

Kalou was replaced just before half-time after he landed badly after contesting an aerial ball, the extent of his injury is not yet known. Chelsea let Olympiakos into the game again just after half-time, Mellberg heading home a powerful header from a free-kick.

But Alex completed a wonderful hat-trick on the hour. Kakuta was again causing problems and he was tripped right in the D. Up steps Alex, but this time his free-kick hits the wall, only for him to lash the ball in on the volley right into the back of the net. The Chelsea fans have warmed to him over recent seasons, and there could be no better way of endearing them than with such an extraordinary hat-trick for a defender.

Pantelic headed home a Riera cross 10 minutes later, but it wasn't enough as Chelsea ran out comfortable victors, 6 points from 6 in the Champions League.

Chelsea Squad: Cech, Zhirkov, Ivanovic, Alex, Ferreira, Mikel, Essien, Lampard (Mellis 63), Kakuta (Benayoun 76), Anelka, Kalou (Borini 45)
Unused subs: Hilario, Cole, Gökhan Töre, Malouda

SALOMON KALOU TO FACE UP TO TWO MONTHS OUT
451795.jpg

After picking up an injury against Olympiakos, ChelseaFC have confirmed that Salomon Kalou will be sent to a specialist for treatment, and can be expected to face up to 2 months on the sidelines. A blow for Chelsea, and also for him with the African Nations coming up in January.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH AWARD FOR SEPTEMBER
michael-essien.jpg

Michael Essien (Appearances 6, Goals 3, Assists 1)

Following some brilliant performances and a couple of crucial goals, Essien has been voted the Chelsea player of the month for September. It was close run, with Zhirkov and Alex both being nominated as other contenders, but Essien, who played every game this month, pipped them to the post with his gut-wrenching performances in crucial matches.
