Birmingham 1 - 1 Chelsea
FA Premier League
1282412436_spt_ai_wigan_chelsea_25.jpg

Chelsea were shut out by Birmingham in a completely one-sided game at St. Andrews. Nicolas Anelka gave the Champions an early lead, but they were immediately pegged back by Vedad Ibisevic and try as they might, they were unable to find a winning goal.

Drogba was fantastic up front by himself again, helping lay on chance after chance, but so many were squandered that it became quite embarrasing. Both Bosingwa and Essien missed glaring chances, heading straight at the keeper, when it was far easier to score.

Anelka gave Chelsea the lead early on, racing on to an Essien flick to slam past Foster. Chelsea looked calm and by far the better side, most would imagine they would go on to shut the game out.

But minutes later, Zigic's height caused the Chelsea defence problems as he rose above Ivanovic to head at Cech, who could only parry it into the path of Ibisevic, to level.

It was a cruel blow for Chelsea, and Birmingham then shut up shop. Chelsea had 27 shots to Birminghams 8, and an incredible 61% possession, but it was meaningless as they once again showed profligacy in the final third. This is a blow for their title ambitions.

Chelsea Squad: Cech, Cole (Ferreira 82), Ivanovic, Alex, Bosingwa, Mikel (Ramires 66), Essien, Lampard, Zhirkov (Malouda 60), Anelka, Drogba
Unused subs: Turnbull, Benayoun, Kakuta, Borini

Blackburn 1 - 1 Chelsea
FA Premier League
Blackburn+Rovers+v+Chelsea+Carling+Cup+Quarter+yTmrXLtFPFJl.jpg

Blackburn will consider themselves highly fortunate to have escaped this match with the point. Chelsea dominated but were unable to find a finishing touch. Drogba gave them the lead, only for Samba to peg them back 5 minutes later. It could prove a costly draw for Chelsea in the Championship race.

Chelsea started strongly as they generally do, and had an incredible amount of possession (64%), but as in the previous game were unable to find a way through their opponents. But with 23 minutes on the clock, Chelsea were given the chance to take the lead when Ramires was bodychecked in the box. Up stepped Lampard for his 4th penalty of the season, but Robinson did fantastically well to push the ball wide.

And Robinson continued in that vain for much of the game, Chelsea knocked and knocked on the door, but could not find a way in. Essien tried a screamer from range but Robinson dived fantastically to tip it wide, before Anelka used excellent skill to evade his defender, only to find his path to goal blocked by the former-England number 1.

Chelsea did take the lead in the second half when Didier Drogba found the net for just the 2nd time this season. Substitute Sturridge was causing Blackburn problems, and he dodged past a defender before playing the ball square to Drogba who hit it first time into the bottom corner.

But a Samba header from a poorly marked corner cost Chelsea who now go back to Stamford Bridge with just a point to show from a game which they truly dominated.

Chelsea Team: Cech, Bosingwa, Cole, Terry, Alex (Bruma 85), Mikel, Essien, Ramires, Lampard (Kakuta 68), Drogba, Anelka (Sturridge 52)
Unused subs: Hilario, Ivanovic, Zhirkov, Töre

Meh, unlucky mate. This is a great story. Keen follower of Chelsea, so I like to see what people do with the side. Yours has been my favourite thus far.

Tiny dip in form, but my  of Chelsea (Even though my supports doesn't say that ;)) keeps me believing :) Especially with you as manager ;)

thanks man :D well I'm an avid supporter of the blues and have been since I was a kid, so I like to think I know the club quite well, and also I followed our youth team last year when we won the youth cup for the first time in 52 years and we have a great youth team, so I just wanted to do a game where I bring that through :)
cheers for followin man (y)

Alex+Wigan+Athletic+v+Chelsea+Premier+League+Aq7SAJeHD_nl.jpg

On this occassion it was Chelsea who were fortunate to leave the Veltins-Arena with a point. Without Drogba in Europe, they have looked blunt up front to say the least, and it was the same on this occassion too. Spanish veteran Raul gave the Royal Blues the lead in the first half, but a last minute Alex header saved Chelsea.

Schalke were on top for most of the game, and looked dangerous in the final third with Huntelaar and Raul. Especially impressive however were midfielders Kluge and Rakitic, who worked their socks off in the middle of the park to deny Chelsea possession, and it worked to great effect.

Huntelaar and Raul played a one-two 5 minutes before half-time and Raul was in too good a position too miss, as he struck home past Cech. "Ein Leben Lang, Blau und Weiß ein Leben lang!" rang out through the home crowd as Chelsea trailed.

But the Blues didn't really show much fight even in the second, instead playing on the counter-attack as Schalke dominated possession. But Chelsea are dangerous on the counter, and a Sturridge breakaway won the Blues a corner, which Alex dutifully smashed home with injury time beckoning.

A cruel blow for Schalke, but Chelsea fans will argue that they have deserved some luck after the past 2 games.

Chelsea Squad: Cech, Ivanovic, Cole (Kakuta 90), Alex, Terry, Essien, Benayoun (Mikel 83), Malouda (Zhirkov 45), Lampard, Sturridge, Anelka
Unused subs: Sebek, Bosingwa, Töre, Borini

LIVE TEXT COMMENTARY
12:10:
Welcome to Stamford Bridge, and we've got a great game in store for you. Chelsea, who have been struggling in the past couple of matches, are up against league leaders Liverpool, who also have two games in hand. It's vital for Chelsea that they don't slip up here, whereas for Liverpool, it would be a massive three points.

12:15: One boost for Chelsea is that Drogba found the net against Blackburn in the last match. They'll be hoping he gets back to his old goalscoring ways as soon as possible!

12:17: BBC PUNDIT MARK LAWRENSON: "I think Liverpool are in a good position here. With 2 games in hand, there's a lot less pressure on them, and if they can frustrate Chelsea early, the fans will be on their back and it'll make it much easier for them. Chelsea have to be clever today."

12:19: As for team news, we're getting closer to kick off now so expect them to start coming through. Players we know will be unavailable however are for Chelsea, Salomon Kalou and for Liverpool Daniel Agger and Brad Jones.

12:24: And here we go, the Chelsea line-up today: Cech, Bosingwa, Cole, Terry, Alex, Mikel, Lampard, Essien, Zhirkov, Anelka, Drogba. Quite a predictable one, but strong nonetheless.

Don't be afraid to get involved, message us on the 606 Board about anything, including Alex's incredible form this season, and what chance you think Chelsea have of winning the league this season under such an inexperienced manager.!

12:30: And here's Liverpool's lineup. Roy Hodgson's gone for the trusted 4-4-2 again: Reina, Beck, Skrtel, Carragher, Johnson, Cole, Gerrard, Meireles, Rodriguez, Kuyt, Torres. Tough side for Chelsea to beat.

12:39: They're coming out now at Stamford Bridge to a huge roar from the Chelsea faithful. They're going to need them behind them in this match, be sure of that! Today's referee is Keith Stroud.

12:44: Chelsea to kick-off and we're underway here!

12:48: Well, Liverpool started trying to play a possession game but they're being harried here by Chelsea. A number of crunching challenges later, and Chelsea are in possession and winning a corner thanks to Zhirkov, but it comes to nothing. Definitely heated, this game.

12:53: Alex steps up to take one of his trademark free kicks, and it's powerful but smashes straight off the wall. Anelka's there for the rebound but he smashes it at Reina and wins a corner.

12:58: Chelsea definitely the ones dominating the midfield in this game, but Liverpool are pacy on the counter, and Bosingwa gets himself in the book after letting Torres get the wrong side of him.

13:02: Incredible! Where was Liverpool's defence! Cech smashes up a long goal-kick and Drogba can't believe his luck when he realises he's alone with Reina, only for the Spaniard to pull off a quite amazing save.

13:04: Mikel has been the hub of all things good about Chelsea so far, and he plays a wonderful lofted through ball over to Anelka, but Reina makes another save. A lot of keepers seem to find form against Chelsea..

13:08: Joe Cole has been Liverpool's biggest threat really today, and he finds space down the left channel again, with Bosingwa on a yellow card, and wins himself a corner.

13:15: And Gerrard joins Bosingwa in the book, after a clumsy slide on Essien.

13:18: Joe Cole, who is still getting a lot of space down that left channel, is in the book now as well, tugging Bosingwa's shirt as he tries to get away. This game needs a goal!

13:21: Drogba does brilliantly to turn Skrtel before chasing down on goal. He has Essien free to his right but instead goes for goal and wins a corner. Probably should have passed instead there.

13:23:
_46253405_goal_post_v2_44.jpg
Yes, I get to use a graphic! Great free-kick from Alex, and it smashes right off Reina's crossbar. Unlucky from the Brazilian!

13:29: And there will be two minutes of added time.

_46175652_ht_44x.jpg
HALF TIME Chelsea 0 - 0 Liverpool

13:34:
Not a lot to talk about in that first half. Chelsea probably just on top, and had the best chances, but as usual have failed to take them. We need a goal early in the next half to kick things off.

13:43: Chelsea look to make a substitution and it's Bosingwa being replaced by Paulo Ferreira. Apparently he picked up a knock as well in that first half.

13:45: Back underway then.

13:46: Ohhh that should have been it! Essien plays it in to Drogba who holds up the ball expertly before laying in a wonderful pass for Anelka but Reina just gets an outstretched leg onto it, and it's a Chelsea corner.

13:49: Another quite incredible save! Essien receives a short corner and blasts it towards the roof of the net but Reina somehow gets a strong palm to it and it goes over.

_47021695_red_card_44.jpg
RED CARD (Steven Gerrard)

13:52:
Stupid challenge from the Liverpool skipper and he goes for an early bath. Already in the book, he lunges in at Mikel from behind and off he goes. Could have possibly been a straight red. Now, it's a good range for Alex this..

13:54: But it's straight at the wall. Lucas comes on to replace Raul Meireles.

13:57: Konchesky comes on and immediately wins a corner for 10 man Liverpool. Good fight from the Reds. Daniel Sturridge replaces a dissapointing Zhirkov.

14: 08: Chelsea not really putting too much pressure on Liverpool at the moment. Sturridge is causing some problems though, and he escapes down the left before lashing in a powerful shot, but Reina is equal to it.

14:18: This second half is going quickly, and Chelsea are running out of time to find a winner. A dissapointing Lampard is replaced by Kakuta.

14:24: Unbelievable save! How many goalkeepers are going to play Chelsea and get the man of the match award, it's quite incredible. Essien is played in and he should score but Reina pulls off a quite superb stop. Liverpool's match-winner today, Reina.

14:29: Rash challenge from Lucas on Essien and it's a Chelsea free-kick. 5 minutes of added time to be played at Stamford Bridge.

GOAL Chelsea 1 - 0 Liverpool (Alex)

14:30:
Well, that's football for you isn't it! We're into added time at the bridge and up steps Alex to take the free-kick and he absolutely lashes it past Reina in the Liverpool goal who is finally beaten, but what an incredible strike from Alex. Fairytale end for Chelsea!

14:34:

FULL TIME Chelsea 1 - 0 Liverpool

14:37:
Well no Liverpool fan can deny that Chelsea deserved that victory, but there could be no better way of winning it than with an absolute thunderbolt of a free-kick in the dying moments. Chelsea's saviour is the incredible Alex! Stick around, as we bring you post-match interviews with the players and manager.

14:49:
Sam Illyroy said:
Wow! I can't say much more than that, I'm stunned. I told the lads to play a patient game and get down the channels and we did that but we just couldn't find a way past Reina, who was brilliant. But what an incredible strike from Alex. He's done it before this season, but at such a crucial time in the match, it's just, I can't describe how amazing that is for us. We need to keep our feet on the ground, we knew that we had to win this match and we'll need to build on it to be successful.

14:54:
Man of the Match said:
Yes, it was a very good goal, but I am mostly happy that the team won because I think we have been unlucky recently and the way we performed today, we really deserved the three points so I'm very happy.

14:59: That's it from us on an incredible afternoon at Stamford Bridge. Join us next time for more live commentary updates.

Chelsea 0 - 0 Manchester United
(Chelsea win 5-3 on penalties)
Carling Cup 4th Round
crop_450x500_GYI0058729796.jpg

Chelsea got one over Manchester United after their early season defeat in the Carling Cup this afternoon, even if it took penalties. Both teams played out an even match with a number of chances at either end, but in the end it came down to spot kicks, Gary Neville missing the crucial penalty.

Chelsea started with Drogba and Sturridge up front, and Sturridge with his pace caused a number of problems, but early on van der Sar was in fantastic form, denying Drogba on a couple of occassions, and keeping control of his box expertly.

Berbatov hit a nice curling shot just before half-time and was unlucky to see it crash off the crossbar and the game continued in this vein, both teams pushing forward but trying to stay solid at the back.

Chelsea played Kakuta at the tip of their diamond, and he was a pain for Untied, constantly slipping through balls in to the forwards. With powerful players like Ramires and Essien behind him, he was given the ball often and was able to dictate the play, and he did exceptionally well for an 18 year old to do that, against the experience of United.

The game went in to extra-time, and Chelsea were forced to play with 10 men when Essien was dismissed for a second yellow, a lazy tackle on Dimitar Berbatov.

Chelsea still fought and it remained an even half an hour, Anelka even hitting the woodwork with a low strike, but the game was always destined to go to penalties. Chelsea won on penalties against Everton in the round before and fate would have it that the brother of the penalty taker who missed in that round, Phil Neville, would blast his penalty straight at Petr Cech too. It was a poor take from Gary Neville and it handed Paulo Ferreira the chance to send Chelsea through to the next round, which he did brilliantly.

Chelsea Squad: Cech, Ferreira, Zhirkov, Alex, Terry, Mikel, Essien, Ramires (Malouda 68), Kakuta (Benayoun 74), Drogba, Sturridge (Anelka 94)
Unused subs: Sebek, Ivanovic, Bruma, Borini

Manchester City 1 - 2 Chelsea
FA Premier League
Wigan-v-Chelsea-Nicolas-Anelka-celeb-his-seco_2493041.jpg

Chelsea made their task harder by conceding a sloppy goal late on, allowing City a way back into the game, but overall it was a comfortable victory for the Champions against 10-man City. A brace from the brilliant Nicolas Anelka saw off the Sky Blues.

City started brightly, buoyed by their loud fans at the City of Manchester Stadium, but poacher's instinct from Nicolas Anelka gave Chelsea the lead after 20 minutes. Lampard hit the ball up to Benayoun who flicked it straight on to Ramires. He brilliantly laid it on first time through the city defence, where Anelka ran on to slot under Given, and give Chelsea the lead.

Yaya Toure then picked up his second yellow for a very clumsy challenge on Ramires, and Chelsea's task was made far simpler. In their diamond formation, Chelsea looked inpenitrable, and passed the ball around nicely, with a possession share of 56%. Benayoun was in good form, constantly slotting nice passes behind the City backline.

It took until the second half for Chelsea to double the advantage, though and it was Nicolas Anelka again the man on target. Lampard took a shot from range, but it hit the back of Lescott only to fall to the path of Anelka who caught in his stride with a full volley straight past Given.

The Chelsea fans were buoyant, and the manager proceeded to bring on the youth. Kakuta, Sturridge and Bruma were all sifted into the game for the next quarter of an hour, and Kakuta looked his usual lively self, even hitting the bar from a good 30 yards.

But Chelsea were caught cold when Milner sent a wonderful lofted ball over the backline and Kompany ran through to slide home, and ensure a nervy ending.

Cech looked nervous towards the end, constantly flapping at crosses and Tevez actually had the ball in the back of the net, only for the linesman to flag it for offside. In the end though, Chelsea deserved the victory, and are in good form at the moment.

Chelsea Team: Cech, Bosingwa, Cole, Alex (Bruma 71), Terry, Mikel, Lampard, Ramires, Benayoun (Kakuta 59), Drogba (Sturridge 63), Anelka
Unused subs: Hilario, Ivanovic, Zhirkov, Malouda

CHELSEA PLAYER OF THE MONTH FOR OCTOBER

Alex (Appearances 6, Goals 2, Assists 0)
A rock for Chelsea this month, and was unlucky not to get this award in September after that glorious hat-trick. Two more goals, including an unbelievably vital winner against Liveropol and some brilliant defensive displays have ensured that Alex is the winner for this month.

cheers man :)

Chelsea 2 - 0 FC Schalke 04
UEFA Champions League Group Stages
lens2006346_1212025110champions_league_logo.jpg

429x.jpg

Chelsea all but ensured progression to the knockout stages with an efficient and powerful performance against tough German opponents. Florent Malouda kick-started his season with a fine goal before Alex added to his growing tally with another fine free-kick.

Schalke are a powerful team, but their strike force wasn't able to penetrate the Chelsea back four, Huntelaar and Raul looking surprisingly blunt against Alex and Terry. Chelsea instead passed the ball around nicely, with Malouda at the top of the diamond.

And it was the Frenchman who gave Chelsea the lead with his first goal of the season, collecting a Drogba flick before powering it at the keeper who could only push it into the net. It was a great start for Chelsea as they looked to dominate their opponents.

The Blues continued to battle away and won a free-kick in the second half just outside the Schalke box, in Alex territory. Up he stepped and leathered it right into the bottom corner, far out of the reach of the helpless Manuel Neuer. Another incredible goal for a Chelsea cult hero.

Chelsea and Schalke started this tie both level on points at the top of their group, so now having won this game, they have qualified for the next rounds of this tournament.

Chelsea Team: Cech, Ferreira, Zhirkov, Alex, Terry (Ivanovic 79), Essien, Ramires (Benayoun 64), Lampard, Malouda, Anelka (Sturridge 59), Drogba
Unused subs: Turnbull, Cole, Mikel, Borini
