Chelsea 7 - 0 Sunderland
Saturday 24th September 2011
John Terry's brace was an inspiration to his side.
Chelsea dominated from start to finish this afternoon as they brushed Sunderland aside. Captain John Terry scored a brace, as did John Obi Mikel in between an own goal. Juan Mata and Fernando Torres scored late on to cap a blistering performance.
Juan Mata was in inspired form as he caused problems from start to finish. His corner after 4 minutes was headed home by Terry to give Chelsea the lead. Mikel then added a second with a tidy finish inside the box, before Bramble turned in a Juan Mata cross to make it 3-0.
One might have thought Chelsea would have been happy with that at the break but they pushed forward and were rewarded, first with a Terry volley from Mata's corner, and secondly with Mikel's second of the game as he pounced on Mignolet's spill to slam home.
After half time, things went from bad to worse for Sunderland as Lee Cattermole saw red for a rather awful foul on John Obi Mikel. Chelsea continued pushing to punish Sunderland and late on Juan Mata wrapped up a wonderful display with his first Chelsea goal, volleying home Anelka's cross. Fernando Torres then raced clear to score a 7th and seal a superb victory.

Illyroy said:"We didn't expect quite such a win but we were well prepared today and the lads performed fantastically. We dominated from start to finish and finally we see the final product of the magnificent Juan Mata.
"If we can get Juan playing like this every game then I have full confidence in our championship credentials. This is a good performance today but there is more in the tank."
