Bells wicket was disgraceful. Have India forgot about the spirit of the game. They did not deserve that wicket

what happened? I turned over just before tea and could swear Ian Bell was still in?

What the **** was that? So much for spirit of the game!

The cricketing community is beginning to see India as a bunch of bullying bad losers, and now you can see why.

Wow, have just seen it on replay, absoulte disgrace. So much for Cricket being a game of "gentlemen" tut tut!

Bell hit it for four, Kumar fecks up the stop so it hits the rope. Rauf had handed Sharma back his jumper, everyone assumed it was now the break for tea. Kumar then throws the ball back and they 'run out' Bell even though the over had been called and was now on the way to the pavilion.

THEY'VE RESCINDED IT! Bell will resume his innings! Well played India, that will go quite some way to bolstering their reputation.

I bet all the boo'ers fill rather silly now, I certainly do. Sportmenshiply (if thats even a word) shown by the Indians.

Massive respect for MS Dhoni, fair play to the lad, could have seen it getting ugly if he hadn't withdrawn the appeal.

India had the right to appeal. All credit goes to them for taking the final decision though.

Most captains wouldn't have withdrawn the appeal(kind of like Collingwood vs New Zealand a couple of years ago) but India did. Fair play.

Can't even remember who the batsman was on that occasion but it wasn't even his fault, there was nothing he could do to get out of Sidebottom's way.

On this occasion it was Bell at fault, it was his stupidity that lead to what happened.

Great innings by Bell. Prior and Morgan at the crease now, should be fun. Just looking at Prior, Bresnan, Broad, Swann and Trott all still to come you expect England to push on.

It was Grant Elliot on that occasion I believe. India in trouble now, time is the only thing on our side right now. 300 plus is always a tough task in these conditions and with most of the batting out of sorts its not looking good.

First thing first, is it Cricketing community or only England supporters, players and Media?

So much for so many English players and supporters spouting ****. Did you forget the farce happened when some England fielder obstructed the batsman and who got Run out. Collingwood refused to call him back..

English commentator was telling that Sky broadcasted few clips where England players were mocking the decisions. ******* hypocrites. When the same thing happened to NZ none of them went to talk to Collingwood to make the correct call.

We are not bad losers. Never were and Never will be. We play the game in a way it should be played. After all the farce happened in the Sydney test match we didn't even Utter a word on the field. We just played as if nothing was happened. It was after the game that BCCI gave a written complaint to ICC.

Well done Dhoni for Shutting up hypocites out there. Well done. You made every one proud with your decision. My respect for you has grown ten folds..

And GodCubed, its really Ironic when you lot call anyone bad losers. We have seen a lot of it.. Starts with Media, Pundits, Ex Players and all..

When Bell was given out I heard same number of cheers as Boos.. I can safely assume that we have great support out there.. Well not a surprise..

Superb innings by Bell. Absolutely superb. Nothing we could have done when it is a sunny day at Trent Bridge. Hopefully it will stay like this for 2 more days..

MS Dhoni has withdrawn the appeal and Ian Bell is coming back out! This is sensational, and a triumph for the spirit of the game. Well done to MS Dhoni; that's a wonderful gesture, and a classy one too because it takes balls to go back on the original appeal. India were booed onto the field, and now MS Dhoni is getting a round of applause. Only in cricket.

There are two points to make, I think

A) All bets are off for the series now; it will probably descend just as nastily as the Australia/India series in 2007-08.

B) Let's talk about what the match rather than the Bell run out. If we discuss this it will turn into a risible slanging match. My opinion is that it was air-headed from Bell, and bang out of order from India. If they withdraw the appeal, on the grounds that it was not an honestly earned wicket, we wouldn't be in this sorry mess. I completely understand why someone would take the opposite view, however.

There are a few precedents for this incident: Collingwood/Elliott, Murali/New Zealand, and especially Tony Greig and Alvin Kallicharranl, which is mentioned at the bottom of this article. Rob Bagchi has sent this interesting quote from Greig with regard to that incident.

What about the much-criticised run-out of Alvin Kallicharan on the stroke of the close of play in Trinidad? "Just watch the footage - I was correct, no question. It was the last ball of the day and I was in close, at silly point, to Bernard Julian, who pushed the ball back down the pitch. I turned to pick it up and saw Kalli, who had backed up, just carry on walking to the pavilion. I ran him out with a direct hit, fact. I got a hammering from people like John Woodcock and Henry Blofeld but they had no idea. The game had long graduated beyond 'the done thing', you can't just wander out of your crease."

Hello. I didn't catch the afternoon session. Did I miss much?

TEA: England 254-4 (England lead by 187; , Morgan 18) Great session for England. Stormy end to proceedings. Contact Rob Smyth with your views. Thanks for your company for the two hours' dumbing down of a serious institution.

Wicket!! Ian Bell run out 137 Tin hat time. It took six minutes to decide that the ball wasn't dead and for the umpires to ask whether India wanted to uphold their appeal. MS Dhoni who lobbed the ball to the fielder to dislodge the bails said that it was a genuine appeal and so, Bell was given out. Never assume, is the lesson, and by the letter of the law he was out. That's not going to prevent the bad blood spewing forth this evening.

Think England will try crack on today, if theres an early wicket I can see us declaring and giving ourselves at least a full day at getting ten wickets.

what do you guys reckon is a decent lead to declare at? personally I reckon around the 500 mark just to be 100% safe.

if i was strauss i'd just wait till bresnan gets out / gets 100 then declare. 450 should be more than enough

It is already safe. Very few teams change over 300 in the 4th innings. The only reason they are still out there is as Bressy is approaching his hundred.

I don't understand this at all.

How are they bad losers after that incident? Dhoni and India did everything they should have, it was Bell just being an idiot. What is there not to understand?

Reaction is typical English. It was us that did wrong not India.

All credit to Dhoni, very good of him. More class that Collingwood etc ;)

Bresnan out for 90, great innings.
