won 2-1 v Krylja Sovetov
Not a classic performance from FC Moscow today, but one that saw them collect all three points anyway. The first noteworthy incident of the match proved to be a controversial one as Krylja Sovetov had a goal disallowed. Then, in the 54th minute, an error from Dmitry Belorukov allowed Krylja Sovetov to score with a deflected effort. With just over 10 minutes of the game left, the in-form Hector Bracamonte equalised for Moscow and then Vartan Mazalov sealed the win with a well executed finish.

won 2-1 v Spartak Nalchik
Winger Maxim Fedorov got Moscow off to a great start with an unstoppable shot on 6 minutes. Moscow captain Vartan Mazalov doubled Moscow's lead with his seventh goal of the season after 31 minutes.
With FC Moscow dominating much of the game, Makhach Gadjiev's 60th minute strike proved the only consolation for Spartak Nalchik.

won 2-1 v Baltika
Goals from Vitaly Kaleshin (his first for his new team) and Maxim Federov ensured FC Moscow won their fifth consecutive league match as they remain unbeaten so far this season.

won 1-0 v Spartak Moscow (SF of the Russian Cup)
Dan Lake will lead his team out in a domestic cup final for the second time during his short career thanks to Roman Shirokov's 72nd minute goal. Shirokov's first ever goal for FC Moscow was a memorable one that gave Stipe Pletikosa little chance in the Spartak goal. In 2011 Lake led U Cluj to the final of the Romanian Cup but saw his team beaten 3-0, he will be hoping to fair better against CSKA Moscow this time around.

After 10 months in the job, Dan Lake is finally starting to see his FC Moscow team turn in the kind of performances that he demands. There are in second place in the league on goal difference and have made their way to the final of the Russian Cup. However, few pundits believe they will be able to last the pace with many suggesting that Lake's men should enjoy the spotlight while they can.

As I have been unable to attach a poll to this thread to canvas a bit of opinion, I have had to make an executive decision! This is likely to be my final season posting for this story, I've enjoyed doing it and do aim to continue with my game but the thread's following seems to be dwindling and it does take up quite a bit of my time!

I would like to thank everyone who has followed the thread so far and hope you enjoy the next few posts, I'd especially like to thank Jack Fulham, Tomorok, Chris, Div_Muzza, James_Art46 and Nick134 who have been constant and supportive posters on the thread. (Sorry if I've missed anyone out!;))

Cheers guys.

no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! real shame. what's the next thread

Just catching up on this now. Good read so far

Keep up the good work comrad

lost 0-2 v CSKA Moscow
First in the league versus second, both teams undefeated so far this season this much anticipated match ended with CSKA Moscow coming out on top. The home side dominated for much of the game but only took the lead in the 48th minute thanks to a bizarre error. FC Moscow fullback Vitaly Kaleshin was left red-faced as he attempted a 25 yard pass back but succeeded in chipping the ball over the head of his keeper. As FC Moscow pushed higher in an effort to find the equaliser Vagner Love took advantage o the space and made it 2-0 with a powerful effort that bounced off the inside of the post before hitting the back of the net.

Russia boss Leonid Slutskiy was spotted at the CSKA-Peschanoye stadium today, it is believed that he was casting an eye over the progress of several Russian players for his next squad, including FC Moscow’s Dmitry Belorukov, Alexandr Belozerov, Roman Shirokov and Maxim Fedorov. Although they have both appeared for the national U21 team, Belorukov and Fedorov are uncapped at full international level.

drew 1-1 v Ural
FC Moscow fans would have come away from Eduard Streltsov pleased with their team’s performance against Ural Yekaterinburg, but disappointed by the result. Moscow had a goal controversially disallowed just before half time, the home fans were convinced that Jan Blazek was onside when the ball was played and that the goal should have stood. After the game Moscow boss Dan Lake refused to openly criticise the referee, claiming that he was “not prepared to risk being fined by some suit who hasn’t even seen the incident!” Ural had little to offer and spent large parts of the game camped in their own half.

won 2-1 v Shinnik
In what was a largely even contest, FC Moscow recorded a win over Shinnik Yaroslavl away at Shinnik. Moscow’s captain Vartan Mazalov opened the scoring after minutes as he got ahead of his marker to nod home Fedorov’s cross. On 73 minutes Serb winger Dusan Tadic timed his run perfectly to beat the offside trap and double Moscow's lead with a shot from 10 yards out. Shinnik’s 89th minute goal was little more than a consolation for the Black-Blues.

lost 0-1 v Locomotiv Moscow
A man of the match performance from Yury Zhevnov was not enough to secure a win during Moscow's 0 - 1 Russian Premier Division defeat against Lokomotiv Moscow this evening. Zhevnov produced an outstanding display to limit Lokomotiv Moscow to just one goal and the Moscow goalkeeper should take heart from this performance. Unfortunately, his team were wasteful in front of goal and despite having 67% of the possession they could not take anything from this match.

Zhevnov is reportedly far from happy at Eduard Streltsov and, although still considered an important member of the Moscow squad, the goalkeeper is said to be considering the options available to him.

Ever have one of those days? Yury Zhevnov can’t stop his team from losing

Despite losing to CSKA and Locomotiv recently, FC Moscow still find themselves in third place after 11 games, an impressive start for Dan Lake’s team. But few of the players would be thinking of little else other than the game in four days time when FC Moscow will face CSKA Moscow at the Khimki Arena for the final of the Russian Cup.

It's back :D I've been giving this a read but don't comment much, keep it up mate :)

Sunday 27th May 2012: Cup final day here in Russia!

We are here at the Khimki Arena in Khimki just north of Moscow, for the final of the Russian Cup. The weather promises to be dry today with the temperature a cool 20’ Celsius, as FC Moscow and CSKA Moscow battle it out for the right to lift the trophy.

This competition is relatively young with the first final being played in 1993 between Torpedo Moscow and CSKA. Although they lost on penalties that day, CSKA Moscow have won the trophy on the greatest number of occasions (7). CSKA have actually appeared in six of the previous eight finals winning each of them!
FC Moscow, meanwhile, have made only one appearance in the Russian Cup final in 2007 when they lost 1-0aet to Locomotiv.

The path to glory

To reach the final CSKA were called on to beat Anzhi Makhachkala (3-0), Sibir Novosibirsk (3-0), Rubin Kazan (2-0) and Krylja Sovetov (5-0).

Meanwhile FC Moscow dispensed with Kuban (1-1 pens), Khimki (3-0), Tom Tomsk (1-0), Locomotiv Moscow (1-0) and Spartak Moscow (1-0).

The Bookmakers have placed CSKA as favourites to win today at 1-2, whilst FC Moscow are considered long shots to lift the trophy at 9-2.

Players to watch

Today’s television pundits have picked out the following players as potential match winners:
Vagner Love (CSKA, striker)
Yury Zhevnov (FC Moscow, goalkeeper)

Missing from CSKA’s line today through injury is Guilherme; many neutrals believe that the Brazilian is instrumental to his team’s attacking play.

Kick off!

3mins
With the game barely started FC Moscow won a free kick on the left flank 40 yards from goal. Mihai Roman took the free kick and found Alexander Belorukov on the edge of the area, his pass caught out the defence and left Vartan Mazalov one-on-one with the keeper. Mazalov left CSKA ‘keeper Andrea Consigli on his backside and stuck the ball in the back of the net. What a start for Moscow, they are 1-0 up!

6mins
Mihai Roman skips past his marker on the left wing and drills in a cross that causes panic in the CSKA penalty area. The ball ricochet’s off Loic Nestor and falls at the feet of FC Moscow’s Czech striker Jan Blazek, he puts it away and FC Moscow lead 2-0.

15mins
Vagner Love releases Zezinho on CSKA’s left wing and his cross finds Gabriel Obertan who miskicks in front of goal but still manages to score. CSKA have pulled one back and will now go looking for the equaliser.

18mins
Gabriel Obertan receives the ball on the edge of FC Moscow’s area and sidesteps his marker, he then lets fly with a fierce shot and Yury Zhevnov does well to get a hand to it. From the resulting corner Vagner Love heads straight at the goalkeeper.

25mins
CSKA Moscow are on top and applying pressure on the FC Moscow defence. Zezinho’s cross finds Gabriel Obertan unmarked 6 yards out but his weak header is easily collected by goalkeeper Zhevnov.

32mins
Maxim Federov lines a free kick for FC Moscow on the right side of CSKA’s penalty area but his shot strikes the wall. Roman Shirokov reacts quickest to the loose ball and takes a pot shot which ‘keeper Consigli can only push wide.

35mins
Mihai Roman is ahead of the fullback and racing toward the touchline, he gets a dangerous low cross in and Jan Blazek meets it with a diving header. Consigli has no chance and FC Moscow take a 3-1 lead.

45+1mins
FC Moscow hit CSKA on the break and Federov nods the ball to Blazek. As the CSKA defender bears down on him he drags the ball back and switches feet before burying the ball for his hat-trick! It’s 4-1 to FC Moscow, nobody expected this!

Half-time: FC Moscow lead CSKA 4-1

46mins
FC Moscow start the second half brightly but it’s CSKA who get the first shot away. Vagner Love pushes high up and catches the Moscow defence cold, one-on-one with the ‘keeper he pulls his hot narrowly wide.

48mins
Cristophe Berra’s headed clearance falls to Moscow’s Manuel Iturra, he finds Jan Blazek free in the area who finishes coolly for goal number five!

53mins
Striker Vartan Mazalov collides with goalkeeper Andrea Consigli as they fight for a high ball, the loose ball rolls towards the goal but hits the post and is dealt with by the CSKA defenders.

57mins
There is a moment of panic in the Moscow penalty area as Belozerov collides with his keeper and the ball rolls loose. Belorukov manages to keep it together and scrambles the ball away for a corner.

68mins
Vagner Love has a shot saved by Yury Zhevnov and the ball rolls across the face of goal. Gia Grigalava gets there first and clears the ball to safety.

77mins
Blazek plays in Mazalov and he dribbles past centre-half Berra. With the goal at his mercy he slams the ball past Consigli and, unbelievably, it’s 6-1 to Moscow!

83mins
Substitute Dusan Tadic fires a cross into the CSKA area and Mazalov steals a march on Berra to flick the ball past the keeper. It is 7-1 to FC Moscow and... wait, there’s a flag and it appears Mazalov was offside when the ball was played. The score remains 6-1 and Mazalov is denied an historic hat-trick.

Full-time: FC Moscow lift the trophy after hitting CSKA for six!

The FC Moscow fan’s are in dreamland as captain Vartan Mazalov kisses the Russian Cup and lifts it high above his head! Not only have their team upset the odds to beat a classy CSKA side, but they did it in style, breaking records on the way. Having scored four of Moscow’s six goals Jan Blazek walks away with the man-of-the-match award.

Amazing performance from your boys, you certainly turned the team around, just lucky CSKA don't have Akinfeev in goal anymore ;)

Blazek had an amazing game, does he have good stats?

Cheers Jack, tbh I was gobsmacked!

Blazek doesn't normally start for me, but Bracamonte was injured. I had him as a poacher because he is fast and has good finishing, I then told the players to target him by playing the ball for him to run onto... and it really did paid off!

He isn't a great all rounder, a screenie is below...

Second time lucky with the cup! Congrats dude :-)

And it's a shame that you'll be stopping this thread but I understand; they were similar reasons for me not starting a thread. Wish you the best of luck with FC Moscow, and whoever else you have the pleasure of managing :-)

Thanks Tomrok, I still can't believe the result! I've enjoyed doing the thread and I may yet keep it up, but I just can't afford to spend as much time on it as I have. Thanks for following mate.

Amazing matey ... Can u post your tactic ??

No problem James, it should be attached to this post. I'm not sure how effective it would be for others as I've designed it around the players I have at my disposal. It's an attacking 4-2-4 with the midfielders set as box-to-box and ball winning, forwards as targetman and poacher. For the cup final I didn't have my usual targetman available and so set up with one poacher (Blazek) and one advanced forward, on team instructions I then made Blazek the primary targetman with the supply to him as "run onto ball"

@ James_Art46, since posting I have had to cope with a loss of form and injury to my targetman and so I have Mazalov as a "complete striker" and Blazek as a "poacher", with primary targetman set as Blazek, supply as "run onto ball" and I'm seeing some improvements in our attacking play. (I'll be posting results tomorrow).
