In an interview with Russian sports paper, Sovetsky Sport, Rubin manager Dan Lake said that he expected his team challenge for the top honours this season. “The fans have every right to expect the best from us and it’s up to the players to deliver. I think that this team is capable of winning the league, I’m willing to stake my reputation on it!”

Won 1-0 v Kuban
Rubin Kazan showed their superiority in a 1 - 0 victory over Kuban Krasnodar in the Russian Premier Division, but they could and should have scored more. Midfielder Alan Kasaev scored the game’s only goal with a curler from the edge of the area.

Drew 2-2 v Dinamo Moscow
Rubin Kazan were held to a draw by Dinamo Moscow in a close-fought Premier Division match played at Dinamo. On the hour mark Dinamo appeared to be coasting to victory, having taken a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Andrija Kaludjerovic and Sergey Terekhov. But Rubin staged a comeback when Argentinean youngster made it 2-1 on 77 minutes and Lacina Traore snatched an unlikely equaliser in injury time. Better late than never for Rubin and the fans were clearly delighted with Traoré's impact.

Show me the way to go home...
Rubin Kazan fan’s have been shocked by Mario Acosta’s admission that he is not enjoying life in Russia and has found it difficult to settle in at his new club. Manager Dan Lake has agreed to allow Acosta to return to Argentina for one month. “Mario took a big step moving to Russia and we want to do everything in our power to help him settle. This break will allow him to visit his family and I am sure he will return hungry for the challenge!” Some sections of the media have questioned Lake’s wisdom as there is a risk that the player won’t return at the end of the month. Argentinean Acosta moved to Rubin from Atletico Mineiro of Brazil in January for a fee of €14.5m

Won 2-0 v Sibir
Rubin Kazan enjoyed near total domination over a distinctly average Sibir Novosibirsk side at Central this afternoon. The match was certainly not one for the purists with neither side able to keep the errors out of their game. Things did not get off to a good start for Sibir as they failed to clear from a corner and striker Mario Acosta pounced on teh loose ball to score from close range. Then, when Sibir’s Mineev gave away a penalty, Anton Putsilo confidently stepped up to score from the spot. Rubin could have won be a far bigger margin but saw efforts from Acosta and Traore ruled out for offside.

Won 1-0 v Amkar
Rubin Kazan did just enough to see off Amkar Perm's challenge in the Russian Premier Division match at Zvezda. Rubin took the lead when midfielder Alan Kasaev scored with a fine header from Vladimir Shubin’s corner on 65 minutes. Midfielder Shubin's red card for persistent fouling on 80 minutes put Rubin's position under question but they held on to record another win.

Drew 2-2 v Krylja Sovetov
Rubin Kazan were held to a draw by their biggest rivals, Krylja Sovetov, in a hard-fought encounter at Metallurg. On 22 minutes Alan Kasaev split the defence with an accurate pass to Anton Putsilo who bent his shot around the keeper. Krylja Sovetov captain Michael Eneramo then equalised for Krylja Sovetov in the 34th minute after the Rubin defenders failed to deal with a corner. Krylja then took the lead a minute into the second half, Enaramo was sent clean through and he beat the keeper to score his second goal of the game. Ivorian forward Lacina Traoré then equalised for Rubin after 66 minutes when the Krylja goalkeeper palmed the ball into his path.

Drew 0-0 v Locomotiv Moscow
Rubin fans will have been frustrated by their side's 0 - 0 draw with Lokomotiv Moscow today. They saw their side dominate for large passages of play but lack a killer instinct in front of goal. It could have been different if Anton Putsilo had taken a chance to score from the spot for Rubin on the 38 minute mark, but he struck a weak penalty straight at the keeper.

Won 2-1 v Alania
Rubin Kazan produced a good display this afternoon to see off the challenge of Alania Vladikavkaz at Republican stadium Spartak. Alan Kasaev got Rubin off to a flyer by scoring after just 4 minutes, and then Anton Putsilo was presented with the chance to double their lead from the penalty spot. Putsilo missed a spotkick in Rubin’s last game against Locomotiv but today he kept his nerve to put it in the bottom right corner. Midfielder Valentin Negru's 50th minute strike proved the only consolation for Alania as they gave a poor performance in front of their own fans.

I’ll be back...
Mario Acosta has arrived back to training after his leave of absence. He assured concerned supporters that his home-sickness has now gone.

Rubin Kazan face a big test in the next round of games as they face Zenit St. Petersburg, CSKA Moscow and a journey’s to Dan Lake’s old stomping ground, Central, to face FC Moscow.

drew 1-1 v Zenit St Petersburg
Rubin Kazan were held to a draw by Zenit St. Petersburg in a thrilling end-to-end Premier Division match here at Central today. Zenit winger Vladimir Bystrov got his team off to a great start on 5 minutes as he let fly with a rocket from the edge. The equaliser came after 34 minutes when Anton Putsilo found himself with space in the area and made the most of his chance. Both sides had plenty of chances and the match could have gone either way.

drew 0-0 v FC Moscow
Rubin Kazan manager Dan Lake returned to old club FC Moscow today but, despite dominating play, his team came away with only a point. It may have been different if Lacina Traore’s goal for Rubin had been allowed to stand.

Let me go...
Rubin Kazan’s want away midfielder Alan Kasaev had his transfer request accepted today. Manager Dan Lake said “I don’t want to keep a player against his will, but that doesn’t mean Alan can leave on the cheap. If they want to sign him they can meet our evaluation of the player.” It is thought that Rubin want €18m for the player who has interested both Ajax and Bayer Leverkusen.

drew 1-1 v CSKA Moscow
Rubin fought hard and took the lead in the 22nd minute when Mario Acosta arrived in the box late and stuck the ball in the net from close range. It was backs to the wall stuff for Rubin over the remainder of the game although they did threaten to break on the court attack, and just as it looked like they might nick an unlikely win CSKA Moscow equalised with 7 minutes to go. Striker Ganiyu Oseni‘s deflected shot levelled the scores.

won 2-0 v Ural
An efficient performance from the Rubin Kazan players saw them confidently overcome a lacklustre Ural Yekaterinburg 2-0 at Central. Rubin capitalised from a defensive error when Anton Putsilo scored in the 45th minute, and captain Nikola Drincic completed the scoring for Rubin with a 25 yard freekick on 58 minutes.

Pick me, pick me...
Rubin Kazan's Alexandr Bukharov was apparantly delighted when told of his manager's recent decision to grant him a more active role in the first-team in the coming weeks. The striker had demanded a chance to impress in the first-team and commented “I’m prepared to knuckle down and work hard to show the gaffer what I’m capable of. At the end of the day all I ask is for the chance to prove myself.”

won 3-1 v Spartak Nalchik
An determined performance by Rubin Kazan's players saw them put a struggling Spartak Nalchik side to the sword this evening. Nalchik looked lively in the opening 10 minutes and took the lead through a poacher’s goal from Fedor Smolov, but when Vladimir Shubin equalised for Rubin 4 minutes later Nalchik heads dropped. Rubin then took command of the game and further goals from Alexander Bukharov and Dmitry Belorukov underlined their dominance.
Bukharov would have been especially pleased with his goal as he started for the first time this season having demanded a more prominent role in the team.

In other news Rubin Kazan’s Vladimir Yurchenko and Wederson agreed moves to Galatasaray and Castellon respectively. Both players had been on loan with a view to permanent moves, although it’s understood that Rubin will pay half of Wederson’s wages until the end of 2013.

I know how you feel, mines just losing and not drawing though ;)

You'll turn it around mate - enjoying your thread btw.

Don't know if it'll help you, but this is the tactic I'm using (rather like the Goals Galore with the changes I mentioned in your thread), I use it for home and away with "narrow play" and "look for the overlap..." if the opposition's forwards are quick then I consider "drop deeper" too.

The deepest midfielder is deep playmaker in my team, but suggest defensive midfielder if not so creative.

The other one (FC Moscow tactic), didn't work for me ... 8-|

Will be checking out your Steaua Bucharest thread shortly. The romanian logo and badges I used when I was in charge of U Cluj I actually made myself but I'm happy to share! I previously attached them to this thread... they can be found on page 2, post #60. :)

Just came across this story and loving it!! Such a nice change to read a story about some unusual teams instead of british ones all the time. Good luck and keep her going!

Hey man, glad you kept the story going, by far the best 1 going, and aye sick of all the british ones with everyone going the same teams, man city (yawn!), and i'll be back with my moscow version 2 shortly!!

Thanks again guys for the support. I've been a bit busy recently and so haven't been playing much FM, but the good news is that I intend to pick it up again this week so new updates coming soon! :)

It’s been a good season up to now for Dan Lake’s Rubin Kazan team, they currently lie 4th in the league and remain unbeaten after 12 games. As the second half of the season begins the question being asked are Rubin capable of mounting a serious title challenge or will they drop off the pace over the coming weeks?

won 1-0 v Shinnik
Rubin Kazan left it late to record a victory over Shinnik today in what was a largely dull game. In injury time Shinnik failed to properly clear a Rubin corner and Alexandr Sheshukov profited with a punt from the edge of the 18 yard box.

won 4-1 v Saturn
A thrilling performance from the Rubin players resulted in an emphatic 4-1 win against a sub-standard Saturn side. On 11 minutes Rubin’s Alan Kasaev feed Dmitry Tarasov 30 yards out and he unleashed a wonderful curling shot that whistled into the top corner of the goal. Rubin’s second was another bullet from far out, Kasaev scored from 25 yards with a shot that was still rising as it hit the back of the net. The match had only just restarted when Kasaev scored a carbon copy of his first half
Goal to make it 3-0. Saturn were gifted a glimmer of hope as the ball rebounded into the goal off Rubin ‘keeper Vladimir Perfiljev in the 60th minute, but Anton Putsilo broke away and put the match beyond their reach just five minutes later.

won 2-1 v Spartak Moscow
Both teams put on a display of attacking football in Moscow tonight, but it was Rubin Kazan that came away with all the points. Young Argentine striker Mario Acosta gave Rubin the lead in the 36th minute as he collected Nikola Drincic’s precise pass and rounded the Spartak goalkeeper. Spartak restored parity just three minutes later, Brazilian Hernanes found himself with time and space in the Rubin area and he put his shot beyond Vladimir Perfiljev. On 55 minutes Renat Sabitov felled Alexander Sheshukov in the box and the referee awarded a penalty, Anton Putsilo stepped up and made no mistake with the spot kick. Putsilo could have made it 3-1 when Rubin with given another penalty a minute into injury time, but this time he struck his shot straight at the keeper.

won 2-1 v Anzhi (6th round of the Russian Cup)
This should have been an easy win for Rubin against first division opponents but Anzhi had not read the script. In the end two goals from Dutch loanee Fred Hofstede sealed their passage into the next round.

won 1-0 v Kuban
Rubin’s Alan Kasaev saw red in the 39th minute and for much of the game after his Rubin teammates played with their backs against the wall. A solitary goal scored on 49 minutes by Mario Acosta snatched an unlikely win for Rubin.

won 1-0 v Dinamo Moscow
The 1-0 scoreline does not tell the story of a match that Rubin Kazan dominated from the first minute. Lacina Traore hasn’t scored too many goals since arriving at the club but his 20th minute strike today was a vital one, dummying the keeper before tapping the ball home from close range.

A famous name arrives at Central...
Rubin Kazan made the first major capture of the August transfer window today as they signed Russian international Andrey Arshavin on a free transfer from Arsenal. 32 year old Arshavin had found himself out in the cold at the Emirates and is excited about returning to his home nation. Rubin manager Dan Lake said of the deal “this is a major coup for the club, as soon as we knew that a deal may be possible we pulled out all the stops to make it happen.”

drew 2-2 v HNK Hadjuk (Europa League 3rd round qualifier, 1st Leg)
Rubin’s European adventure started in Croatia against relative domestic cup winners Hadjuk. Rubin cruised into a 2-0 lead thanks to Lacina Traore’s near post header and Anton Putsilo’s penalty kick, but Hadjuk didn’t give up and Ranko Despotovic pulled one back on 72 minutes before Radoslav Vlasic forced Rubin goalkeeper Vladimir Perfiljev to put the ball into his own net.

won 2-0 v Sibir
A 2-0 win over Sibir saw Rubin Kazan reach the heady heights of second place in the Russian Premier League today. An efficient performance by Rubin Kazan's players saw them confidently overcome a lacklustre Sibir team. Argentine youngster Mario Acosta scored from the penalty spot after Roni gave away a penalty on 31 minutes, before repeating the feat in the 50th minute when his team were awarded a second spotkick.

drew 1-1 v HNK Hadjuk (Europa League 3rd round qualifier, 1st Leg)
A draw was enough to see Rubin through to the next qualifying round of the Europa League, where they can look forward to facing the likes of Man Utd, Olympique Lyonnais and At. Madrid. The tie ended 3-3 on aggregate but as Rubin scored two goals in Split they went through on away goals.

drew 0-0 v Amkar Perm
Rubin Kazan could count themselves highly unlucky to only draw in their Russian Premier Division match at Central. Rubin completely dominated a match in which Amkar failed to produce a single shot on goal. Rubin must have wondered what they had to do to break down their opponents, as time and again they were met by a committed defender eager to block a shot. The run up to the game had seen the two opposing managers trade insults and in his post match conference Rubin boss Dan Lake accused the Amkar team of playing for the draw.
