Quarter Final 1st Leg VS Balestier Khalsa FC

Started with my strongest squad possible, barring Pejic and Ivancic due to injuries.

Go behind early.

And again.

Prakash finally breaks his goal drought and hits the net. About time buddy!

Disappointing loss with Balestier being the better team with the ball. But we still have a chance in the 2nd leg.​

Decided with a three man midfield to wrestle for possession.

Early goal conceded, this is now becoming a habit.

Finally some luck, deflected strike from a corner bounce off Nizam in the goal. Bennett takes the assist.

Decided to go for broke and brought Prakash on for Sulaiman and go with two strikers up front.

My tactic change payed off as Nawaz was in position, receiving a cross from Prakash out wide and beat the keeper easily. (3-3)

Icing on the cake as Nawaz pops up again and finally puts us in front.

Still dominated by Balestier but we had the better goal scoring chances. Go into Semi Final against DPMM.

But first up, Home FC league game

**** of a game with Prakash carrying on from the last game, nabbing two goals. Unfortunately Casmir had other ideas and stole the show with a hat-trick.

League Cup Group Stages

All the action occurred in the first half, with penalties at either end and Shi Jiayl hitting a long range shot to put us in commanding position.

Disappointing loss, outclassed and utterly clueless in breaking down the opponent. Nonetheless we go through to the next round as we topped the group on goal difference as Tampines lost against Niigata Unicorn.

League Cup Knockout Stages

We ended up drawing DPMM for the Quarter Final

Luck was on our side as we were leading going into 80 mins when DPMM equalised from a corner. Irwan Shah rescued us from extra time, shooting the ball through the crowd in front of the goal.

Semi Final draw pitted us against our old group foe, Niigata Unicorn

Having beaten them in the group stages I knew we should be able to beat them again. And we did after we went down early due to a defensive mistake. Eventually started pilling pressure on them and gained a penalty which Nawaz slotted home easily. We might have less shots yet we made sure our second good chance went in with Prakash getting on the score sheet.

We progress into the Final with Young Lions our opponents.

Final

Scale of our task is not made easy as we are yet to beat Young Lions, having not won once in the last 5 games we have played each other.

I take a aggressive attacking strategy going into this game, putting Prakash up front, shifting Rahim to the center and Nawaz on the right wing.

Scoring from a corner, Bennett puts us in the lead, which we held on till the end!

Champions!

Utterly brilliant, might have been an attacking game as both defenses held firm but we cracked theirs open with a set-piece goal!

We carry on with the S-League, hoping to continue on with our title charge. Also Singapore Cup resumes again, two games away from the final! Hopefully at the end of the season we have 3 trophies to lift!

Relatively balanced but we had better chances, Nawaz being the game changer as usual. Take a narrow one goal lead into the second leg.

Singapore Cup Semi Final Leg 2 VS DPMM

Still opted for an attacking formation, attack is the best form of defense for the team at the moment.

DPMM find a gap and exploit it.

Vidosevic scoring a rare goal to draw the game and put us through to the final!

A draw is enough for us to play in the final against Tampines Rovers FC at the end of the season.

Seven more league games to go and other teams are starting to catch up on us. Young Lions match will be the decider for the title.

Champions!

Woo hoo!

Our season long assault on the title is finally over, with a five point gap separating us from Young Lions. The Young Lions game was the most crucial in keeping them at bay as we did stumble at the end but the title was wrapped up after Geylang Int. game.

There is still one more competition to go and its a chance to get the treble before I leave the club!

Singapore Cup Final vs Tampines

Depleted squad with only four out of seven subs named on the bench. Hassan making a rare start up front, Johns shifted from his usual center mid position to left wing and Ahmad making his first start of the season. Ong fills in the defence as the last center back. The fixture timing at end of season is a joke with most of my best players are called up for internationals and still have a injury roster. Tampines only have one player away on international call up and also have a full bench. Anyway still sticking with my attacking philosophy.

Tampines strike first early with a set piece header. Jiayl puts us on back level terms with a long range shot.

Roskam evades my defenders again after the break. Ivancic breaks through the tough defence and strikes home.

After adjusting tactics, shifting Nawaz up front alongside Hassan, he goes and destroys Tampines with his two goals in extra time, allowing us to avoid penalties. 4-2 Victory!

We had the upper hand but did not make most of it till extra time after I moved Nawaz up front where his clinical edge killed the game off. I was suprised we were able to do so due to the fact I kept all players on the pitch(no subs) and they were more exhausted than the other team.

3 out of 3 trophies gained this year despite missing some of my best players to long term injuries. Not a bad effort eh?

By the way this was my last game with the club as I feel I have hit my limit with the squad and small pool of players to choose with. Yes, I will miss out of Asian Champions League but with the team I have are not going pull up any trees or beat the likes of Chinese or South Korean teams any time soon.

At least I go out as a winner and Manager of the Year!

Applied for Chinese National First Division team Harbin Yiteng and got an interview with them.

New Club!

After the interview, Yiteng were impressed and offered me a 1 year contract. You might also notice that they put in a agreed promise which is I must refrain from applying for jobs, which I did at near the end of my Warriors reign.

I also had a few other Chinese First Division clubs giving me interviews, even a relegated Super League club but I choose Yiteng over all of them for one thing, financial stability and the fact they had money to spend which I will need to strengthen the squad in the future along with wage budget room.

I will be taking over a mid table club, their last manager got sacked for poor league position.

Not a glamorous club with a history, only played one season in the more glamorous Chinese Super League. Also I was born in the same year the club was founded!

Time to fly over to Northern China!

Harbin Yiteng Squads First View

First Team Squad Overview

According to my assistant manager we hold a good squad for a mid table team. The thing I like most about the team is that most of the players can easily slot into another position, thus allowing me ability to change tactics during the match easily. Plus-side no foreigners signed!

Best Player(s)

My best player, yes I am serious despite my assistant managers low opinion of him but I feel he is the most well rounded midfielder I have in the squad, offers attacking and defensive skills.

Liu Yi is my best rated defender, can play on the left side or in center.

Reserves Squad Overview

Great potential in the Reserves but most of them won't make the first team due to poor mental skills. Only Wei Jiawei and Wu Teng would be considered as backups to First Team.

Obliviously I have a bit of work to do on the market, want a reliable experienced goalkeeper, talented attacking players to compliment the existing squad and good center backs. I have 3 Foreigner spots available and goalkeeper has to be a Chinese player according to the rules. Also allowed only 3 domestic under-21 and 5 domestic over-21 transfers in the windows. But I can sign as many on a free.

Harbin Yiteng 2017 January Transfers

Part 1

£188K Spent and £725K made from outgoing transfers. I am using the Chinese Yuan as currency. Lots of reserves were released along with promising youngsters Lin Yue and Feng Xuebin for a profit.
I ended up signing 3 foreign and 4 Chinese players.

Outgoing

Lin Yue leaves after Shanggang made an offer that I could not refuse, was rated highly by my assistant but with poor mental skills meant I could easily let him go for a big profit.


Incoming

29 year old Brazilian, previously played in the Hong Kong Leagues came on a free. I had trouble finding talented attacking players and was lucky to find him before the transfer window closed. Can play up front and attacking mid, is a team player and a hard worker. He will be my main striker for the season.

A good Chinese goalkeeper, getting into his prime goalkeeping years. Possesses great reflexes and concentration. Fans were disappointed in me for signing him from rivals A'erbin but I could not care less as the is a good upgrade on what I had. Cost: £77K

This is a interesting signing as he was originally signed on a free by my predecessor, joining the club in the transfer window. Talented Japanese right attacking midfielder, possesses great teamwork and work rate along with his high determination. I believe he will develop into a very good inside forward and could play in bigger leagues in the future. Right now he needs game time and a chance to develop.

Part 2

South African player, yet to play a first team game came in on a free. An agent offered him and on trail he impressed me enough to sign him. Can play a variety of roles up front from poacher to target man. See him as a back up to Michel Lugo.

Comes in to reinforce my midfield, a well rounded player that also can slot in defensive midfield. Cost: £https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pound_sign67K

Defensive midfielder, came in on free and has excellent natural fitness and is a good teamworker and works hard. Will need work on his marking skills but not a bad backup to first team.

Guo comes in to reinforce left back position. Costs: £44K

Harbin Yiteng 2017 Pre-season

A long Pre-season and I had a focus on getting everyone match fit and ready for the season ahead as I wanted to get off to a good start. Notice the losses in the middle? Those were against South Korean Classic League teams and two Chinese Super League teams. Michel Lugo has hit the net a fair amount in his lone striking role, while providing chances for others. Long as he keeps this up I won't be too worried about our attacking chances for the season. Best game was a draw with one of top South Korean sides Incheon.

Tactics

First tactic on the left will be the main one for the season, provides defensive stability and we will be focusing on counter attacking football as I am sure teams will dominate against us easily and they will have star attacking players with abilities to cut us to shreds. But with tactical versatility with the players I have allows me to easily switch to other formations such as other two which are a bit more attacking minded to break down stubborn opponents.

Passing is mixed and the defense is to pass out from the back with players overlapping on wings and a focus on passing into the box instead of hitting hopeful shots.

First things first, I forgot to post a squad screenshot after the January transfers so here it is

Fixtures

What a start to the league! Wasn't expecting such results! Only one loss and two draws while going on a seven game unbeaten run. Michel Lugo is our top goal scorer with 6 goals in 8 league starts.

Table

Crikey second in the league after one third of the matches gone and in promotion spot?!! Media predicted we were a middle table side and I thought so too but the squad have so far surprised me. Hopefully we can hold on to this spot or surpass Yongchang. Think its time to believe we have the quality to go up into Super League!

Best Win

Brilliant come from behind win with Lugo snatching a late winner for us!

Worst Game

Awful game, could not counter Wuzhou's strong attacking line up early in the match and were ultimately outclassed in everything.

Squad

Michel Lugo(ST) leads the goal scoring charts while Qi Tianyu(MC) and Akinobu Abe(AMR) both have four assists. Overall the squad has performed well and I am slowly rotating the players to insure that the backup players are happy. Can't really say much until we have passed two thirds of the season to properly judge the players and assess who will be staying for next season.

Chinese FA Cup 2nd Round

Media predicting us to win easy so being a home game I decide to play to our attacking strengths.

Tactics

Lugo up front with Abe and Xioxuan on the wings, Qi Tianyu and Han Xu controlling the mid and Liu Xiaodong operating behind Lugo. Li Xudong and Lu Wei anchor the defense with Liu Yi and Liao Junijian defending the flanks. Experienced keeper Cheng Yuelei between the sticks.

Match

Blistering first half sees us 4 goals in front!

Final goal of the game.

Dominant performance with us getting the shots and possession our way. Akinobu Abe and Ji Xiaoxuan grabbed two goals each with Michel Lugo continuing his fine form picking up one.

Player of Match

Newly signed player has been very impressive for us, being a menace on the right wing and having the ability to crack open the defenses and tee up other players while finding the back of the net.

Next Round

We face Qingdao Zhongneng who also are from our league, been lucky so far to avoid the bigger clubs from the Super League.
