A New Beginning

10th June 2011
Yes,it was over.Another season was done. The players were on holiday.I lay in my bed wondering about nothing in particular, just when my phone rang.

Me: Hello

Grlic: This is Ivica Grlic

Me: Ivica who?

Grlic: Ivica Grlic.The Bosnian

Me: Yeah,speak.

Grlic: Don't you read the news??

Me: Uh, no. I'm too busy with my team
.
Grlic: Well,I have to tell you this. You better come here to Sarajevo right now.

Me: But? Wh..

*he hung up*

I thought to myself, what now ? About 6 hours later I was sleeping comfortably in a flight headed to the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. There I was with Grlic offering me a warm welcome, hugging me and saying "Come David,we have to talk."

I went into his room where about 20 people were looking at me and smiling.I recognized one of them.Yes! He was Edin Dzeko. The man who scored a hat-trick against my Dinamo Kiev team when we faced Wolfsburg in the Europa League."Sit down David",said Grlic.I took the seat and I was given a newspaper article to read.It said,

35bz7no.jpg

Looking dazzled, I exclaimed "Whoa,I'm linked with the job?Is this the reason why I am called here?"

Nodding his head with a grin on his face,Grlic handed me a piece of paper. It was a contract. They were offering me the coach job. With a look of bewilderment on my face,I asked, "But what about my Dinamo Kiev job?"

Ivica sighed and said "You really don't pay much attention to reading. The job has been mentioned as PART TIME.You manage our team as well as Dinamo Kiev."

Delighted with the answer I signed! It was official,I was the new head coach of Bosnia and Herzegovina!

I was waiting at the Olimpijski stadion Kosevo where I was going to be unveiled and questioned by the media.Well-known media like The Sun, BBC Sport and also the local Bosnian media were present for the press conference.

I sat beside a very excited Ivica Grlic. And boy wasn't I excited as well!!

Question: You sit here as the new head coach of the Bosnian National Team.Your thoughts on this?
Answer: I am very pleased to be here as the manager of this team.

Question: What would you intend to do as manager of the team?
Answer: Well, my first aim would be to take the team to Poland-Ukraine 2012.My long term aim would be to make this team a European Superpower.

Question: Even though you are manager here, you cant speak Bosnian.Do you think there will be communication gaps between you and the players?
Answer: Not really, football is a universal language.

digging it buddy :D good season and good luck with Bosnia, i hope you get some good regens coming through because I managed them once before and they pretty much only have a good first 11, and maybe 2 subs, its a hard job, good luck!

Luca Wehrli - Grasshoppers (3.8 m)

The first player to leave the club was right back Betao who was signed up by Juve for a handsome fee of 3.6 million

Roman Eremenko - Hannover 96 (2.5 m)
View attachment 104173

Pre-Season Press Conference
Interviewer: Your new signings weren't showing the best of form during the pre-season and fans may be disappointed.Your thoughts on this?
David Seaman: I think this is too early to judge the players' form and I am confident they will shine during the season.

Interviewer: You lifted the Valeriy Lobanovs'kyi Cup yet again. What would you like to say about this?
David Seaman: Honestly,we were favorites to win and Im pleased we did.I would like to thank all the clubs who participated in the tournament.

Interviewer: What do you have to say about the win against Man Utd?
David Seaman: Well,I'm sure it has sent a message to all European clubs that we are a force to reckon with and we have it to win the Champions League.

Interviewer: Your rivals Shakhtar Donetsk have made arguably the best signings in Ukraine Premier League history by signing Brazilian wonderkid Neymar and Argentinian winger Angel Di Maria. Will these new signings hamper your progress this season?
David Seaman: I will prove to them that money isn't everything and I see the "Man City of Ukraine" go down this season.

They really signed Neymar and Di Maria? Wow, they must have good scouts and deep pockets. I had to shell out $25M or so to get Neymar.

Nice update, but you have a few injuries very early, no?
