Guthrie = Football + Passion
Since the start of June West Brom have been run by a new man, a man that no one seems to know anything about. The passionate Scot was born and raised in Scotlands North East, a small town called Peterhead. He started his fortune with several small business's in the local area but it is his manufacturing company based in Aberdeen that supply goods to the Oil and Gas Industry, that has made him the billionaire he is today.
Today he sits in a nice cushy office at The Hawthorns with Richard Gordon of BBC Scotland discussing West Brom and the way forward.
Gordon: "New manager, new players, new chairman anything else up your sleeve?"
Guthrie: "No, nothing as yet. Quite content with the changes made so far"
Gordon: "So no new signings in January?"
Guthrie: "I wouldn't rule anything out at this moment but we certainly have no plans yet."
Gordon: "There are a lot of ex-players and famous folk involved in this league these days, do you feel a little out of your depth?"
Guthrie: "Quite the contrary actually, this is great down here. The atmosphere is good and having a drink with Arnie is tremendous fun. He wants to use one of our rigs up north to make a movie. Dennis Bergkamp is a great guy, possibly my all time favourite footballer and it is always an honour to spend time with him when we are in Swansea."
Gordon: "So you spend time with other Chairmen?"
Guthrie: "Yes indeed. Not all of them, some i would avoid if possible but it isn't always possible. Got a lot of time for the Hull chairman."
Gordon: "What did you make of all the bickering a couple of months back?"
Guthrie: "To be honest, couldnt give a monkeys!! It was amusing to me and completely childish when you read it back. But saying that, i can understand where it comes from, its a passionate game and some times it spills over."
Gordon: "Are you happy with how the season has been going so far?"
Guthrie: "Yes and No. We have been playing really well but can't seem to get results. Andrea is a top coach and that is why he is here. He wasn't my first choice but couldn't get my first guy. But things are going well enough, we are 15th at the moment and i think we can certainly build and move forward.
Gordon: "Who was your first choice manager?"
Guthrie: "Ah that would be telling now, i don't think there is any need to discuss that just now. Andrea is the manager and will remain so for the forseeable."
Gordon: "Thanks for your time today. Look forward to seeing you back up the road soon."
Guthrie: "Pleasure was all mine Richard, looking forward to coming home.
The Scot seemed in good spirits despite some on field difficulties. How long will the young Italian be in charge and how long can West Brom stay in the league? Only time will tell............
