West Ham United - August Review

West Ham 1-2 Man City

Meyer (3); Aguero (28), Silva (75)

A disappointing first game of the season saw us lose 2-1 to Man City at home. Meyer got us off the mark for the new season early, but we were turned over by goals from Aguero and Silva to start the season with a loss, albeit an expected one.

Sunderland 0-0 West Ham

The only other game of the month was a trip to Sunderland which ended as a scoreless draw. A solid result while many new members of the squad adjust to life here.

Transfer News

Aside from earlier deals Chieck Tiote and Graham Dorrans have joined to add extra depth in midfield, while young left-back Stephen Hendrie and Will Keane both leave the club.

In other news, rather frustratingly new £10M striker Alan Kardec has been told he can't play for the club until January due to not being allowed to play for 3 clubs in a year...

Lukaku returns after one year in London while Calum Chambers joins a tougher defensive group as he waits to break into a top 4 team. Not quite sure what this cost me in the end. Was going to involve Alex Chamberlain swapping for Julian Brandt as well but we decided we were happy with what we had so that move was called off at the 11th hour. Arsenal did get James Ward Prowse as part of the deal after a solid year at Hull.

Raphael Varane DC - £39m

Studying potential and current Class Raphael Varane was the only player that ticked all the boxes to become Mats Hummels long term partner at center back and at a very reasonable £39m

Domenico Berardi AT - £66m

This will always be know as the signing that wasnt Lionel Messi! Still another 10 years at this level and can improve while Messi at 30 is in his prime now but how long does he have left at the top.

Josh Murphy ML - £17m

A huge price for someone that will probably never be more than a back up. Will need to find a team to go out on loan too just now

Fede Cartabia MR £4.9m

A snip of a signing. Might not play much but good work by Simeone.

Out
The one major player from last seasons squad that left was Jonathan Calleri who we lost £10m on in one season after PSG picked him up for a bargain £16.5m Another £10m was misplaced on Paulo Dybala We made about a £10m profit by selling him to his home for the past 2 seasons QPR but they sold him on just as fast for a further £10m. James Ward Prowse went to Arsenal as part of the Lukaku deal after finding himself out of favor with us. After that it was still a busy old window with 9 kids heading out on loan for first team experience while Callum Adeyemi & John Forte we among the youth players who were out of time.

Community Shield
Man Utd 1-1 Chelsea - Man Utd win 5-4 on pens

4th different winner in 4 seasons. The two teams in this game have NEVER won the league in this save!

Man Utd 2-3 Cardiff

2 goals up in the first quarter and we totally stopped playing. Cardiff had 3 goals before the hour and even survived the last 10 minutes with 10 men.

Tottenham 3-1 Man Utd
Falcao

BOTTOM! How the **** does that happen. Oh right we have been abysmal since scoring the 2nd against Cardiff.

Bayern are not the force of 2015 since the Premier League has striped them of there top talent but will be a huge threat. Valencia are no push overs either. Like Bayern they have been loosing star players but over a much longer term. Will this latest batch of replacements live up to the stars that finished just 7 points behind Barcelona last season

So guys! Lets get the next month done and lets get out of relegation trouble please! September starts with a possible season defining game with Chelsea. Anything but a win and we'll be miles off the top and had a negative result against a title rival. Once were past that bogie town Newcastle away before two expected wins against Watford and Wolves will be required to put a positive slant on this mess.

This Messi fella looks a waste of money, not in any of the top stats...

Could someone post a image of Cardiffs transfers? Im not able to get on the file until probably the weekend and ive seen goalscorers that I didnt have before the summer.

I will post an update on the weekend when I can get onto the file properly. Also what a comeback against Man Utd. Hopefully that gives us momentum for the rest of the season

Decent month, 7 points from 4 is Ok. We didn't play any big teams though, and losing to Palace at home is disappointing.

Arsenal in post-Wenger Wonderland
About a year ago, this summer, Gunners fans worldwide were shaken by the retirement of long-serving Arsene Wenger. Prince Harry attempted to fill the gap with Russian Leonid Slutskiy, but his adventure was shortlived. At this point, in January, the fear was that Arsenal would forever be a team fighting to win a top 4 spot, but never living up to their title credentials. But in came Vincenzo Montella.

6 months later, Jack Wilshere lifted the trophy that declared Arsenal champions of Europe, the first English team to win it since 2012.

Arsenal fans everywhere were extatic. And on that high, Prince Harry decided to go for broke.

He asked Ginger Spice herself, Geri Halliwell for her hand in marriage, and after a short engagement, married her in Las Vegas!

As their honeymoon was over, Harry declared that he would buy the most fabulous present ever for her, and thus, enter Lionel Messi!

In the jawdropping deal of the decade, Prince Harry emptied the crowns coffers, to give Messi a whopping £800K/week wage to wear the red Arsenal strip. Harry had decided that this time, Arsenal would go for quality over quantity, and shipped out a massive 16 players that were sold or sent on loan. This covered more than Messi's transfer fee, but the coffers were opened again to bring in another new Arsenal star in Bayern wing-back / midfielder David Alaba!

Despite selling powerhouse striker Romelu Lukaku, as well as talented centreback Callum Chambers to title rivals Man Utd, Arsenal fans were overjoyed to finally see the club really splash the cash.

But in the end, all that matters are the results, and it remains to be seen whether Montella can create a squad from these individual stars. So far, however, it does look very promising for the Arsenal faithful.

August:

Arsenal 3 - 2 Wolfsburg (European Super Cup)
First game of the season, first trophy! A fantastic Sanchez display, where he netted a hat-trick, was enough to win us the first title this year.

Arsenal 3 - 1 Watford (BPL)
A solid start to the season. Sanchez scoring again, and joined by Aboubakar and Oxlade-Chamberlain on the scoresheet.

QPR 0 - 1 Arsenal (BPL)
A tough away game to our London rivals that have become a team fighting for Europe. Aboubakar saved the day with a late goal, after a terrific MoM performance from young german Niklas Sule in central defence. A strong start, but still no sign of Messi!

September:

Arsenal 3 - 0 Man City (BPL)
Ah, there he is! Scoring 2 and assisting a third, Messi introduces himself properly to the Arsenal fans. We utterly dominated City, and restricted them to 2 attempts in total. A very good sign in what has normally been our weakest point, the big games.

Arsenal 1 - 1 West Brom (BPL)
Now, how do we go from crushing City, to drawing at home to WBA. No disrespect to the Baggies, who played an excellent game. Our old soldier Cazorla made us regret trading him to Liverpool back in the day, as he secured a strong away point.

Arsenal 5 - 0 Ajax (Champions League)
We kick off our title defence in style at the Emirates. Braces from Sterling and Aboubakar as well as a Messi goal made this a total demolishion of the former Champions League winners. Perfect 10's for both Messi and Sterling are a rare sight, hopefully a sign of things to come!

Sunderland 0 - 2 Arsenal (BPL)
We keep another clean sheet as we grab 3 poins from a difficult away game. Messi and Ramsey scored the goals, but Özil ran the show and was by far the best player on the pitch.

Arsenal 2 - 0 Southampton (Capitol One Cup)
Another solid display, and another goalscoring performance from Aboubakar. He netted a brace, but it was the young German Rudolph who was the player of the game. He is a very promising young player at only 18, and may well have his breakthrough this season.

Everton 1 - 3 Arsenal (BPL)
3 brilliant points away at Goodison. Even if Everton have had a bit of a rollercoster ride in recent years, it is never easy to go to Goodison Park and bring home all 3 poins. We produced a disciplined display as Ramsey, Sterling and Marquinhos scored the goals.

Conclusion:
Unbeaten in all games, including pre-season fixtures, and a classy start to the Champions League. So far, so good for the Arsenal, but there is still a long way to go before we can start dreaming of challenging for the title. Next month sees us travel to White Hart Lane for the first derby of the season. This will be the first of many challenges ahead, hopefully we can stand tall also at the end of October.

19th in the league at the moment but we have faced Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea in our opening 6 games, at least we ended the month with a comfortable win over Newcastle

Stoke and Deschamps turn it around in September by beating 3 potential Europa League rivals Swansea, Cardiff & Crystal Palace with Jordan Rhodes finding his shooting boots in our charge to 8th place. Our only League defeat case with our last League trip to the old White Heart Lane and even that came from a late goal from Saul. Our only disapointment of the month was in the League Cup where a very strong Stoke side were beaten 3-2 by Portsmouth. October may be a different story with Chelsea and Man Utd back to back before a trip to Wolves looking like our most likley source of points

Sunderland August and September update

With pre season out of the way Slutskiy started his task of keeping Sunderland in the Premier League.

Things didn't start start so well with an away trip to top flight returnees Southampton.
View attachment 220806
Despite playing against 10 men for 30 minutes of the game we were still largely outplayed and went down to a 58th minute Jay Rodriguez strike. Sunderland new boys Origi and Cristante appeared to struggle and put in poor performances.

Next up were West Ham at the stadium of light. In a match that ended 0-0 Sunderland gained there first point of the season.
View attachment 220805
We managed to dominate the game throughout but were not able to find a way through, registering only two shots on target. For the second game in a row Origi and Cristante had poor games. Even Sunderland key man Ribeiro appears to be struggling for form.

We ended the month with a routine 3-0 win over Sky Bet championship side Barnsley in the COC.
View attachment 220804
A heavily rotated squad were able to overcome Barnsley with Everton Ribeiro grabbing a man of the match performance and Origi scoring his first goals for the club.

By the time September came we were sitting uncomfortably 17th in the league was this a sign of things to come. We faced a difficult September with games against Premier League high flyers Leicester and QPR and top dogs Arsenal and Man Utd we also had a COC against Spurs thrown into the mix, how would we fair.

First up was an away trip to Leicester. We managed to grab a 2-1 win largely thanks to De Laet's early dismissal and goals from Everton Ribeiro and Nacer Chadli.
View attachment 220803

We faced surprise top four contenders Q.P.R next at the Q.P.R Stadium (such an unoriginal name).
View attachment 220802
We were largely outplayed but were able to take the win 2-1, its wins like this that will keep us in with a fighting chance of survival. Origi scored his first league goal for the club and Ribeiro kept up his good run of form with another strike. Javier Mascherano should the fans what he is all about with a commanding man of the match display.

League leaders Arsenal were next up at the Stadium of Light. Arsenal bossed the midfield with 60% possesion throughout and although we out gunned them, we were firing blanks. In the end we went down 2-0 with goals from Messi and Ramsey just before half time. It was a fairly disappointing result, however Arsenals quality shone through.
View attachment 220801

The Capital One Cup was next on the agenda with a third round home tie against Spurs.
View attachment 220800
It may have taken penalties to beat them, but in truth we smashed them even though Leonid Slutskiy put out a heavily rotated side against quite a strong Spurs team. We were trialling 2-0 however goals from Gauld and top scorer Ribeiro kept us in the tie. We eventually won the tie 4-3 on penalties.

The final game of the month saw Man Citeh come to the stadium of light. Again the bigger team dominated possession and this counted as Man Citeh took the game 2-0.
View attachment 220799

Two wins this month see us rise to 12th position in the league, things remain tight however the squad is full of confidence right now and this should spur them on to fight for survival.

Key Man
View attachment 220798
Javier has put in some impressive performances in the middle of the park and looks a wise investment from Leonid Slutskiy bringing him in from his former team.

A special mention must go to Everton Ribeiro, his goals have been vital to us so far this season and we can only hope his form continues.

OCTOBER UPDATE

The press gathered today as Goodison Park for Chairman Howard Kendall’s press conference fully expecting the club legend to deliver the dreaded vote of confidence to beleaguered manager Paul Hartey. At the end of August the Scot’s stocks were flying high after leading Everton to a draw and a win in their first 2 matches to have Everton sitting pretty in 5th spot.

They say a week is a long time in sports. Well if a week is a long time, then a month is an eternity and how the club’s fortunes have changed in the past 4 weeks. After only picking up a solitary point in the past 4 matches Everton are now sitting in the relegation zone prompting Kendall to express his dismay with the current predicament and rather than providing a vote a confidence instead he took the opportunity to issue an ultimatum.
View attachment 220795

“I know you all came here expecting me to throw my support behind Paul. Well that’s not going to happen. He has one month, 31 days, to turn this ship around. If we aren’t out of the relegation zone by 1 November then Paul will be fired. I’ve given him this chance to perform at this level but and I’ll have no problem taking it away - if he isn’t up to it I won’t hesitate to make a change.”

Away defeats to Southampton and Leicester and followed by a draw at home to West Ham and then the drubbing at Goodison by high-flying Arsenal appear to have made Hartley’s days in charge numbered unless he can engineer a turnaround.
View attachment 220794View attachment 220793View attachment 220792View attachment 220791

It is understood that the balance sheet position at Everton has completely turned around in the past 2 months and the club is now back on firm financial footing so should the club decide to pull the trigger it is expected that the next appointment will be of a significantly higher profile than Hartley.

Dear Fans

We all know that the Premier League is arguably the best league in the world in terms of quality and competitiveness. With this in mind it was always going to be tough establishing ourselves in the league and this last month has shown just how tough it can be. It is at this point of the season that we urge fans not to get too downhearted and to put their full support behind both Kenny Jackett and the players.

Results

(Correa, Sako) Wolves 2 - 3 Cardiff (Austin x2, Werner)

Cardiff and Charlie Austin were always going to be a tough nut to crack and it proved to be the case. We gave it our absolute all and despite goals from Correa and Sako, our defence wasn't strong enough to hold out and the game was gone.

(Sako) Wolves 1 - 3 Chelsea (Pratto x2, Hazard)

Next up we hosted high flying Chelsea to the north and they completely thumped us. After Lucas Pratto gave Chelsea an early lead, there was a ray of hope as Bakary Sako equalised but it really didn't last long as Pratto got his 2nd just a few minutes later. Eden Hazard finished off the performance to make it three and Chelsea saw the game out comfortably.

(Kane) Tottenham 1 - 1 Wolves (Aneke)

A great result against Tottenham as we pick up what is almost a bonus point in a game where we were expecting nothing. Chuks Aneke got us off to the perfect start as he scored in the opening minute of the game. Tottenham absolutely dominated the play and eventually got the equaliser in the 61st minute when Harry Kane got their goal.

FA CUP
(Afobe) Wolves 1 - 2 Cardiff (Murru, Bamford)

and with this result in the cup, Cardiff are well on their way to being my bogey team. We found ourselves two goals down within 16 minutes and despite Benik Afobe attempting to start a comeback with a goal in the 63rd minute it just wasnt to be and we are out of the cup.

(Lukaku x 2, Di Maria) Man Utd 3 - 2 Wolves (Aneke, Afobe)

I am so proud of the team after that game. We went up to Old Trafford and gave them absolutely everything we had and so almost came back with something. In an absolutely storming match the momentum swung backwards and forwards but in the end United were just too good, leaving us with just the one point from the three tough matches against Chelsea, Tottenham and United.

The results this month leave us just 15th in the table with 5 points from our opening 6 matches. Having said that we have gotten some tough games out of the way and can now look forward and hope for bigger and better things with our fixtures over the next couple of months.

Wolf of the Month

View attachment 220711
Chuks Aneke is in superb form! two goals and three assists this month add on to the three assists he already had to leave him with two goals and six assists in just six games. Already proving to be worth the money as he leads the Premier League assist table. Keep it up Chuks!!

A quick word on finances before we sign off for the month. Despite being almsot £18 million in the red at the start of the season, we are already back in the black after just two months and scheduled to make a massive profit. This is partly due to having the 2nd lowest wage expenditure in the league and partly due to the massive money the Premier League has to offer.

We thank you for your continued support as always.
Come on you Wolves!

Palace impress in September!

Matt Smith: "I'm sure all Crystal palace fans are over the moon at how well the team are playing so far this season!

We currently sit in 7th at the moment thanks to a great all round performance from the guys in the month of Septmeber in which we managed 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss; 7 points out of 10.

YPOTM

Kennedy picks up the young player of the month award for his 2 goals against against Stoke and Leicester. I must mention Vil Henna also, as he too scored 2 goals from midfield to help us pick up the 2 wins this month.

Clean Sheets
Rulli is finally showing his quality, after taking a year to settle in the premier league, with 3 clean sheets in 6 games which puts him joint top with Ter Stegen of bitter rivals Arsenal.

Improvements?
Although I am happy with our current position in the Premier League, I am still a little disappointed with the performances from Benteke. He set us back £10 million last year and has yet to deliver!

I will be expecting him to pick up the pace and start contributing to the team with a few goals between now and January, if not then it may be the end of his Crystal Palace career as I have no intention of paying him his wages if he cant find the back of the net!!

That's it from myself, I hope to report on similar results next month!

Onwards and upwards!!

Smith"

Dear Fans

It is with great regret that I am writing to inform of you of the mutual termination of Kenny Jackett's contract. Following a lengthy meeting yesterday at the Sir Jack Hayward Training Complex, it was decided by the board and by Kenny himself that our working relationship had come to a close. Both parties had significantly different views on where the club was going and the level of ambition that the club had to be striving for.

We would all like to place on record our sincere thanks to Kenny for rebuilding this great club and for getting us to where we are today. A compensation figure has been agreed between the parties has been agreed and we are already working on drawing up a short-list of names to fill the position of first team manager.

We thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Come on you Wolves!!

Scarlett
