The Lineups: View attachment 206373
Two teams with disappointing seasons behind them face off. Both teams play unconventional formations, as both defences look rather weak. Fullbacks playing centrebacks for both teams.
The game got off to a lively start, with both teams creating chances. Vadala and Firmino looked lively for their teams, and made a lot of driving runs. But both keepers were having solid games.
16 minutes in, Liverpool were on the break. Vadala made a long driving run with the ball, and fed it to Carlos Fierro, who just made it out from an offside position before the ball was played. He turned, completely unmarked, and fired an absolute bullet into the net behind Hugo Lloris. 1-0 Liverpool!
However, all was not lost for Spurs, who went straight up the other end to equalize. Firmino played in Adama Traore, who had cut in from the right wing. He easily went past Alberto Moreno with his first touch, and smashed it into the bottom corner with his left foot. Antoher great goal and 1-1! Only 1 minute after the opening strike!
The game slowed down after the hectic start, and both teams seemed happy to go into the break with a draw.
In the second half, there weren't many chances. However, both teams were forced to make subs, as Fierro and Lamela picked up injuries. Noone dared enough to get the breakthrough, and we headed into extra time.
An injury to Memphis Depay after all subs were used meant that Spurs had to play the second half of extra time with 10 men, but it looked like the game would be decided by penalties when Liverpool got a throw in, 1 minute from time.
Coleman threw it into George Williams, who was mowed down by the substitute, Will Hughes. Penalty Liverpool!
