Not too happy about this month. We seem to be struggling for goals, and seem to be conceding to many. We need to buck up our ideas up front and tighten up at the back. Maybe a change of tactics is required, as I am 4 seasons in, although I did change them up last season to great results so we'll see. Next game is a (should be) easy win in the Champions League, so I'll try out some new tactics in that game.
German champions Wolfsburg have been rocked by news that Wilson Palacios will be out for up to 4 months with a torn calf muscle.
The midfielder, who signed for £20M last January from Tottenham, picked up the injury sprinting for the ball in the game against Schalke and now Wolfsburg will have to replace the Ecuador international up until and more than likely into the new year. It's a massive blow for manager Daniel Feliciano, who's side have been struggling this season to hit the heights they hit last year as they lie in 3rd place 2 points off leaders Schalke, but they are struggling for goals despite the quality they possess up front. Now, they will have to put up with their box to box midfielder Palacios and will have to find someone with the steel in midfield that he has.
Finally! I've found a tactic that has got my side back in the goals, but also to prevent us conceding goals consistently. With the exception of the Gladbach game, we've played very well this month and the results show that. Very happy with this month, and progression to the 4th round of the German Cup was also a nice reward for our fine form.
Special mention has to go to Oscar Cardozo for his fantastic form this month, hitting a fantastic 7 goals in 5 games this month.
All round, a very good month. We conceded only once against Villarreal, and scored a whopping 18 goals in 5 games. Dzeko has been in top form, scoring 7 goals and we look very strong now. We have qualified from our Champions League group as winners with a game to spare, and sit top of the league 3 points clear, with our first game of December being against second placed FC Bayern.
Transfer News..
In transfer news at Wolfsburg, Tomas Kahlenberg has confirmed he is leaving the German champions in January for £1.7M to join up with French side Lille. Daniel Feliciano revealed that the Denmark midfielder wasn't in his first team plans and that he was free to leave if the right offer came in. Feliciano also said "I don't expect to bring anyone in this winter. However, if the opportunity arises that we can strengthen our squad, then I may decide to do so, but as I said, I have no plans to strengthen the squad. My plan is to trim the squad of the players I don't see as being in my plans, but they will only leave if a good deal comes in. Nobody will be leaving on the cheap!"
Excellent month in the league, but disappointed at not winning the Club World Cup because of a last minute goal. If I'm honest, I underestimated Corinthians and played a very weak side compared to the game against Okayama, but in the end we paid the price for it. In the league, we have finally begun to break away from the rest of the pack as we sit 7 points clear at the winter break ahead of FC Bayern and look good for our win.
Quick update with the goalscoring is Edin Dzeko reached his 20th goal of the season in the Club World Cup Semi Final.
A very good mid-season break. The 4 friendlies we played produced 23 goals, with none conceded. Van Der Vaart was in epic form, scoring in every game, and getting a hat-trick aswell. Hopefully he carries this form into the second half of the season, when we take on Hoffenheim in our next game.
This is my last update of the night, more tomorrow!
