I signed a 1 year contract worth £15,000 p/w

I was expected to reach the playoff's, but then I scratched my head when I was told I'd have to achieve this on a meagre budget of £800,000.

The Riverside Stadium has a 34,733 all seater capacity, and was built in 1995. I remember been there on the opening day, a 2-0 home win over Chelsea. What an atmosphere.

Middlesbrough have won only 6 trophies in their history, so it would be nice to be able to add 1 or 2 more to the trophy cabinet in my managerial reign.

My family and I really enjoy life on Teesside so I'm hoping the Boro fans take to me, and I'm not waking up on a morning with placards in my garden telling me to get stuffed.

We had several players loaned to us, and also loaned out to other clubs. I'd have to assess what these players could bring to the team.

I wasn't so impressed with Fredericks, but Kalas and Vossen look like promising loanee's.

My first day in the job was to mull through our squad list and to gather all the information my assistants gave me on who was great, good, ok, who had potential and who was dead wood.

After a few days I decided to add our ageing midfielder Dean Whitehead to the transfer market for £190,000. Within a day I'd received an offer from Brentford which we eventually accepted after negotiating a deal. But to our disappointment the deal collapsed after Brentford couldn't offer him the wages he desired.

I then decided to ship him anywhere I could, so sent out a £150,000 come and get me plea to everywhere I could think of to get Whitehead's signature. Brighton quickly responded and offered the £150,000 we wanted, and on the 20th July 2014 Dean Whitehead became a Brighton & Hove Albion player.

I'm in January first season with middlesbrough (middlesbrough fan)

personally id of kept whitehead he's a decent BWM in defensive midfield

kalas and Ayala are probably the strongest partnership in your defence

dont be fooled by wildschuts stats he's not bad playing on the left wing as a inside forward

Thanks mate. I'm playing a 4-3-1-2 formation and have Forshaw, Leadbitter and Clayton in the 3 central midfield positions. Leadbitter in a defensive role.Ledesma is my AMC. He's amazing, scored 7 for me already and I'm only a few games into the campaign.

We received bad news regarding Loanee Centre Back Kenneth Omeruo, as he'd broken his ankle in a friendly game and we were ultimately forced to terminate his loan spell so he could return to Chelsea to see a specialist. I was disappointed because I was looking forward to using him in the team, it would have been great to see what he was capable of.

With my current formation I couldn't see a starting place for midfielder Lee Tomlin, so placed him on the transfer market for £2.5m. Wolverhampton Wanderers offered a paltry £500,000 plus incentives, so I tried to negotiate with them, but they were been stubborn, so I told them where to go. I thought I'd circulate Tomlin to every club I could think of, in the hope I'd be as successful with this transfer as I was with the Whitehead deal. Wolves then came back to me with a £2.5m up front fee, which was immediately accepted. The deal went through on the 25th July 2014 to my delight. Now we have £2.3m spending money and extra wage space.

Our Pre-season odds to win promotion are at 33/1

I brought 2 players to the club on 2 week trials. Young Danish midfielder Patrick Olsen, and 30 year old former Middlesbrough attacking midfielder/striker Scott McDonald. McDonald had scored 37 goals in 116 games in 4 seasons at The Riverside, so I was hoping he'd impress me.

I was informed that 26 players' contracts were due to expire in the next 12 months, so I'd be assessing who I wanted to keep over the next few weeks.

Just before my first league game in charge, I was reminded by the board of my season expectations.

An excellent win kick start our season, and my first game in charge. What an adrenaline rush, as everyone played superbly. Emmanuel Ledesma getting our first goal of the season, followed by 2 strikes by Jelle Vossen.

Patrick Olsen didn't really impress me in his pre-season trial, however I was pleased with Scott McDonald, so offered him a 2 year contract worth £3,000 p/w.

On the 10th August 2014, Middlesbrough welcomed back midfielder/striker, 30 year old Scott McDonald. He'll initially find himself on the bench, but I'm hoping he can push for a starting place. I've heard the fans are fairly happy he's back for a second spell.

Capital One Cup Round 1

Middlesbrough 1 - 0 York City

I wasn't planning on fielding my best squad to face York City, so I decided to give a few back up players the chance to shine against the League Two side.

Only Patrick Bamford's goal separated the two teams come the final whistle.

I was sat at home with a few beers watching the draw, seeing that we will play Peterborough Utd at home in Round 2.

With Leeds and Middlesbrough having quite a nasty rivalry, it was imperative for us that we came away with at least a point from Elland Road in our next league fixture.

Leeds Utd 3 - 1 Middlesbrough

The score certainly didn't do Middlesbrough justice. Poor finishing, defending and goalkeeping were our faults today. 22 shots at goal and all we get is a Scott McDonald goal.

Bolton Wanderers 1 - 0 Middlesbrough

Another away defeat, and I wasn't happy. We should have picked up at least a point, but very poor finishing has harmed us again. The Middlesbrough fans leave the Macron Stadium disappointed.

On another sour note, striker Jelle Vossen gashed his leg during the game and will be out for up to 2 weeks.

We entered this home game in desperate need of a win, and we certainly sent the Boro fans home in a happy mood.

Emmanuel Ledesma scored an amazing 25 yard free kick. Scott McDonald then came on for Ledesma and scored our second goal. I'm very impressed with both players competing for one place in the starting eleven.

I can go home to my family a happy man. I think I'll grab some takeaway on the way home. We know how to celebrate in our house.

Capital One Cup Round 2

Middlesbrough 2 - 0 Peterborough Utd

This gave me another chance to rest key players. Thankfully my backup team didn't let me down. Albert Adomah and Ben Gibson firing us into Round 3.

We draw Everton at Goodison Park in Round 3.

Middlesbrough 2 - 1 Reading

An excellent win for Middlesbrough, coming from behind to do so. Emmnue Ledesma equalising 2 minutes after Jamie Mackie fired Reading ahead. Then in the 70th minute Kike slotted home his first goal of the season to raptures in the stands.
