good luck on your last game of the season. glad to see that you've broken the usual top two ^^)

Can't wait for the next league post, it'll be impressive if you do it (especially if you manage a Euro Cup/League double!)

Come on Mike, win them both!

Well well, updates in a few minutes. Writing up a match report.

MATCH REPORT

35000 fans watch from the stands as Espanyol’s Carlos Vela kick-starts the final.

8: A real chance for FC Bayern Munchen – Altintop plays the ball long to Olic, lays it on for Dogan who continues into the penalty area, he hits it low towards the bottom-left corner of the goal, but Begovic does fantastically well to get his fingertips to the ball.

12: Espanyol win a corner from Beckham’s deflected free-kick. The corner wickedly whips towards the back post, JOAN VERDUUUU!!!!!! Rises above Robben to score, 1-0!

23: Bayern still knocking on the door, as Toni Kroos plays a one-two with Philipp Lahm. He continues down the centre of the park and lays it on for Arjen Robben, who wins a corner after Begovic tips the ball over the bar after a back-post cross. Nothing from the resulting corner.

44: A serious chance for Robben does well to intercept a wayward free-kick, but shoots wide of the target.

45: The referee blows his whistle to signal the end of the first half.

Realising his team weren’t doing enough on the pitch, Espanyol manager Wayne Thomas changes things around: Steven Pienaar replaces Luis Garcia at left midfield.

46: Straight after the break, Espanyol’s Chica deserves a second yellow card, sending him in for an early shower, much to the fury of the manager. Bayern change to a 4-2-4 formation.

51: Smiljanic plays the ball forward to Vela, who skips passed the on-coming defender, plays it left to Verdu. Vela’s onside as he receives the ball – GOALLLL! A superb finish by the Mexican; 2-0 to Espanyol!

52: David Beckham comes off for Moises Hurtado.

60: Pressure on Espanyol as Nurullah Dogan wins a corner after a blistering shot. Arjen Robben whips in the corner, and it’s a goal for Bayern! Corner winner Dogan rises high above Nicolas Pareja to nod in a goal. Munich back in the game!

66: Espanyol having to defend deeply now as Bayern pile on the pressure. Altintop the next to text Begovic’s goalkeeping ability.

67: Bayern sub: Klose on for Olic.

78: Another Bayern change, this time Zuniga comes off for Thiago Neves.

80: Badstuber is sent off for a lunging tackle on Espanyol’s Carlos Vela. During the protests, Alaba receives a second yellow and is sent off.

83: Hurtado was tripped by Philipp Lahm, and he also receives a second yellow and is shown a red card. Drama here in the Final!

90: 3 minutes of added time is shown by the 4th official, and both sets of fans roar loudly for their respective team.

90+2: Smiljanic comes forward, through to Verdu. He makes space for himelf, opens his body, shoots and wins a corner. Smiljanic takes the corner, GOALLLLLLL – JOAN VERDU SCORES AGAIN!!! Joan Verdu scores again from the corner and seals the game for Espanyol – the first piece of silverware under the current manager’s belt!

Espanyol win the league after defeating Recreativo! I’ve done the double, but I really didn’t expect this at the start of the season!

Awesome Mike, congrats! I guess there is a space left in your trophy cabinent for the European Cup though, next season perhaps? GL

I'm hoping to push for the Champions League, though I will be pleased with semi finals. More updates tomorrow, going through pre-season now :D

End Of Season Review

What a season! Liga BBVA and EURO Cup double – it wasn’t expected by anyone I don’t think! Espanyol stun Real Madrid and Barcelona and appear to be improving throughout. A truly great season for all associated with Espanyol, and hopefully more to come!

Performace of the Season: Barcelona 1 : 4 ESPANYOL

Yes, I picked this over the EURO Cup Final as this was the most important fixture of the season. Perhaps if Barca had won, they might have clinched the title, so this was really significant.

LIGA BBVA AWARDS

I won Manager of the Year award.
Cristian Mora was selected as Goalkeeper in Liga BBVA Team of the Year. Victor Obinna was once again named among the substitutes.

First of all, I'd like to say I've decided on a new layout ^^) Hopefully it'll be more attractive and easy to read. The layout on the fixtures/results will start when the season does.

JUNE

24th: SEVILLA APPROACH ESPANYOL MANAGER, guaranteeing £15,500,000 to spend on players and a wage budget of £975K p/w. The job offer was rejected.

30th: ESPANYOL OFFER THOMAS NEW CONTRACT, which will see him here for the next four years, pocketing £37,000 per week.

JULY

23rd - Friendly Cup Semi Final: St. Mirren 0 : 6 ESPANYOL – Valdo (6 (six)), R. Soldado (23, 27, 49), A. Guardado (45), V. Obinna (79)

24th - Friendly Cup Final: ESPANYOL 0 : 0 FiorentinaFiorentina win 5-4 on penalties

AUGUST

19th - Spanish Super Cup Leg 1: Getafe 0 : 0 ESPANYOL

26th - Spanish Super Cup Leg 2: ESPANYOL 2 : 1 Getafe – Valdo (10), J. Marquez (21) : J. Gavilan (45+1)

ESPANYOL win another piece of silverware – the Spanish Super Cup – after beating Getafe at the home fixture. Manager Wayne Thomas is said to pleased with Valdo after impressing in the match, and is said to be David Beckham’s replacement as he’s ‘getting on a bit’.

European Champions Cup drawGroup D: Olympique Lyonnais, Juventus, ESPANYOL, Bursaspor

31st - European Super Cup: Barcelona 2 : 1 ESPANYOL – L. Messi (19), Xavi (105+1) : R. Soldado (55)

ESPANYOL go down to a hard-working Barcelona. Barca prove too strong for Espanyol today as tired legs cost them dearly. Not too bothered about about the result, was a brilliant performance by all, but Barcelona were even better. Bring on the league!

All results so far:

Transfers in
Andres GUARDADO (Free), Roberto SOLDADO (£24M – 48 months), GEROMEL (£12.5M), Fernando GAGO (Free), David PRIETO (£3.1M)

Transfers out
ANGEL (£1.4M), Emmanuel CULIO (£4.4M), Xurxio GARCIA (£40K), Loads Released
