24th March 2012
AS Nancy Lorraine 0 - 0 Girondins Bordeaux (Nancy win 4-3 on penalties)
20:00: We're half an hour from the first cup final of the season, and can Illyroy's side really claim their first trophy of the season. 6 points clear at the top of Ligue 1 would seem to suggest they can against strugglers Nancy but having been knocked out of the Coupe de France in mid-week would suggest otherwise. Any way we're in for an interesting match nonetheless.
20:09: Well it was a dissapointing showing from Bordeaux on Wednesday but they'll look to overturn that with victory here tonight. It's a late kick off as you might have guessed and I'm here in the stands at the Stade de France amidst an expectant crowd. Should be a cracker.
20:12: AS Nancy-Lorraine vs. Girondins Bordeaux team lists
AS Nancy-Lorraine: Bracigliano, Marange, Dielna, Kuznetsov, Kone, N'Diaye, Berenguer, Hadji, Sodinha, Brison, Bakar Bordeaux: Carrasso, Tremoulinas, Zuiverloon, Kryvtsov, Kompany, Javi Garcia, Defour, Faubert, Henry, Gourcuff, Chamakh
20:17: We're just under half an hour from kick off in the French capital. It's a wonderful evening. Not many surprises with the line-ups. The rested Kompany, Javi Garcia, Defour and Gourcuff return to the starting line-up after that defeat in mid-week and Nancy replace N'Guemo with N'Diaye in their bid to win the trophy.
20:30: The teams are out and we've got some classical music playing. The Bordeaux players certainly look confident. One thing to remember however as I'm reminded by optajoe is that Marouane Chamakh is on a goal drought having failed to score in over 400 minutes of football. Will their profligacy up front cost them tonight? We'll see.
20:45:
We're underway at a rocking Stade de France. Bourdeaux will be kicking from left to right in this first half.
20:47: Bordeaux are the quickest out of the traps as expected and they put together some nice passes for Defour to get the first shot on goal, but unfortunately it goes high and wide.
20:50:
Our first yellow card of the game goes to Gianni Zuiverloon for a late challenge on N'Diaye just outside the box. It's a good position for Nancy to have a shot, but the free-kick is wasted by Sodinha.
20:54: It's a very wide pitch here and Bordeaux are starting to make the most of it, as Faubert breaks out wide before coming inside and forcing the keeper into a very good save. They had a lot of pressure on Wednesday but failed to turn it into goals - they're going to have too in this half or they'll be punished again.
20:59: Faubert is having some luck on this right hand side and he wins a corner for les Girondins, but it's not converted this time as Kompany's header is saved. Optajoe - "Bordeaux have scored 17 of their goals this season from set pieces".
21:03: They look up for it today, and Chamakh does brilliantly on this occassion. Tremoulinas lofts a wonderful ball down that left flank and Chamakh runs onto it, holding it up before lofting a ball into the 6 yard box where Gourcuff charges in, only to see his pwoerful header saved by Bracigliano. Might have done better with that, too. Chamakh heads the resultant corner over.
21:08: Gourcuff breaks through the middle again but his shot goes way, way over.
21:11: Nancy starting to edge into this game and Brison comes forward this time and wins a corner off of Kryvtsov, but it is similarly cleared away.
21:14: Ooohhhh that was close. N'Diaye breaks into space on that left wing and he is brought down cynically by Gianni Zuiverloon. The referee calls him over but ticks him off. He's lucky to still be on the pitch really.
21:17:
A lot of passion being showed in this game, but a bit too much there from Nancy's Pascal Berenguer, as he sees his name go into the book after a poor challenge on Gourcuff.
21:19: That was a chance and no doubt about it. Bourdeaux are playing keep ball in the Nancy half, but without really getting anywhere. Defour plays it across to Gourcuff but he is tackled and the ball is smashed up field to Bakar. He is in loads of space, and well onside but he smashes his shot well wide when 1v1. Poor, poor miss.
21:23: Well we talked about Bordeaux missing a number of chances recently but Berenguer has just missed an absolutely sitter and doesn't he just know it. Nancy are passing it around beautifully and a superb little touch from Bakar plays Berenguer in 1v1 but he absolutely skies his shot. Real waste.
21:28:
Well that's another in the book for Nancy-Lorraine and there's no doubt about that one as Lamine Kone drags back Chamakh, just as he's about to race clear behind the defence. Arguably lucky not to receive a red...
21:32:
Half-time AS Nancy-Lorraine 0-0 Girondins Bordeaux Not a great half of football - looked promising at kick-off as both teams went for each others throats and there were a couple of early shouts but died down after that. A couple of big chances though for Nancy and they will be annoyed that they weren't able to take them. How will both teams react in the second half?
21:35: Pundit Didier Deschamps: "We didn't see a lot there from the aspiring Ligue 1 Champions and their manager will quite rightly be annoyed with the dissapointing performance they put out there. Chamakh hasn't really seen enough of the ball up front and thus hasn't been able to bring the ball down for Gourcuff, so there needs to be a change in how their tactics are played in the second half"
21:39: With Bordeaux being out of the Coupe de France now, their fans are all expectant for them to bring this trophy home, especially against the side that knocked them out of that tournament. Second half soon to get underway.
21:45:
Back underway then and there's no changes from either side. 45 more minutes to go at the Stade de France and just to remind you of course that if it reminds this way then it will go to extra-time and then to penalties.
21:46:
Sodinha is replaced by Miguel Riffo.
21:53: Mundane start to the second half, but Defour does give a bit of energy to the game, escaping through the middle before playing a one two with Gourcuff, but he'***** his shot just over the top of the crossbar. Good energy from the Belgian.
21:54:
Henri Saivet is coming on then for the veteran, Thierry Henry. How will that change the game?
21:56: Oh great effort. Berenguer picks up the ball on the outside of the Bordeaux box and hits a brilliant shot towards the far corner, plenty of power and accuracy. Carrasso does brilliantly to jump and punch it over the bar.
21:59: He has to score. They've wasted so many good opportunities, Nancy. Although they'll be glad they're making them, they'll be dissapointed with that miss. Hadji is given time to make 3 touches in the box but still can't compose himself and smashes miles over Carrasso's bar. Let off for Bordeaux.
22:00:
The clock strikes 10, and Dielna is coming off for Nancy-Lorraine to be replaced by Bakaye Traore.
22:04:
Bordeaux replace Chamakh with Vagner Love. Is that a turning point in this game? I surely hope so, it's a dull affair so far.
22:11: Well somethings changed for Bordeaux here, be that because of Vagner Love or simply they have the greater engine. Gourcuff drives his team forward, twice earning a corner before setting up Saivet with a good opportunity but the goalkeeper makes a good save, low to his right.
22:16: Cracking effort. Vagner Love receives the ball high up the pitch, and turns his man easily before letting rip with a brilliant shot, but the keeper does well to turn it wide. More than Chamakh did all game.
22:21: Extra-time and penalties are looking much more likely at the moment. Javi Garcia receives the ball after some nice build up play from Bordeaux but he completely wastes the opportunity to pass, instead opting to shoot and he skies it over.
22:28: 3 Bordeaux were just starting to dominate there, but Nancy counter-attack quickly and N'Diaye wins a corner, just as the linesman announces 3 minutes injury time.
22:30: World class challenge, and that may just have kept Nancy in this game. Saivet receives the ball in the box and drops it bakc excellently to Vagner Love who is just about to pull the trigger, but doesn't see 20 year old Kuznetsov slide in and block him. One for the future, him.
22:31:
Full time AS Nancy Lorraine 0-0 Girondins Bordeaux It's over here then in Paris. We go into extra-time. Can't bear much more of this, it's poor stuff on show tonight and I highly doubt the players want much more of it either.
22:35:
Back underway, and Valera has replaced Zuiverloon for Bordeaux.
22:36: To be fair, this game has had it's chances and there is another one there. Vagner Love does well, pulling wide right before sweeping a wonderful ball across to Faubert. He chips it back in and Javi Garcia takes it on his chest before smashing it goalwards, but Bracigliano, who's had a great game, is on hand to push wide.
22:37:
Javi Garcia is the second Bordeaux man in the book after pulling the shirt of Kuznetsov.
22:42: Ohhh great effort from the youngster. Bordeaux again making chances, and this time it falls to Henri Saivet who has a cracking shot from 25 yards but it just whizzes past that far post. Surely there's a goal in this game...
22:50:
Half time in Extra time AS Nancy Lorraine 0 - 0 Girondins Bordeaux Well not yet anyway, neither team has made their chances count so far, but Bordeaux have been the better team. Can someone make it count in the second half of extra time?
22:55:
Fifteen more minutes for something to happen here.
23:00: The perfect, perfect opportunity for Henri Saivet to make himself a Bordeaux legend, but he's missed it. Defour plays a wonderfully weighted ball in behind the defence but Saivet hits it poorly and weakly at the goalkeeper. On we go then..
23:07:
Seen reds for that. Tremoulinas comes in really heavily on Kone, two footed I think as well. He escapes with just a yellow. 2 more minutes at the Stade de France. Surely not another penalty shootout for Bordeaux?
23:10:
Full time AS Nancy Lorraine 0 - 0 Girondins Bordeaux The game will go down to the drama of penalties then. Bordeaux have already played in two penalty shoot-outs this season, and won both. Is that a sign of what will happen today? We will see.
23:12: The stadiums rocking, and the players look nervous as they all line up, arm in arm on the centre-line. It's the Bordeaux captain Steven Defour up first.
23:13:
GOAL Defour stares the goalkeeper in the eyes before smashing it calmly into the bottom left corner.
23:14:
GOAL It's a goal a-piece as N'Diaye slams home Nancy's first penalty. Carrasso complained the ball wasn't on the spot but the referee wasn't having it. 23:15:
GOAL Calm as you like from the Frenchman, Gourcuff stepping up to send the keeper the wrong way. 2-1.
23:16:
GOAL He might have missed a sitter earlier, but Bakar does well with that penalty, slotting it past the wrongfooted Carrasso.
23:17:
GOAL Calm and composed from the Brazilian striker Vagner Love as he slides the ball into the left corner.
23:19:
GOAL We couldn't seperate them in normal time, extra time or penalties now. Hadji scores but Carrasso didn't even move. Belter.
23:20:
MISS No sooner did I say that than the normally reliable Javi Garcia sees his penalty saved brilliantly by Bracigliano. Advantage Nancy.
23:21:
GOAL Well, well, well. Nancy move within touching distance of winning the Coupe de la Ligue as Traore belts his penalty into the roof of the net. Saivet must score.
23:22:
MISS It's all over! AS Nancy-Lorraine have defeated Girondins de Bordeaux to lift the Coupe de la Ligue and Bordeaux have paid for their profligacy again today.
23:30: Well done to Nancy-Lorraine. They were underdogs today but they gave Bordeaux a real go, and despite Bordeaux dominating the most of the game, they restricted them to flash-chances and they were unable to take them. The Coupe de la Ligue goes to Nancy this year!
Chamakh starts over Vagner Love despite failing to score in his past 6 appearances.
Gourcuff has the first real chance of the game, but he heads it straight at the goalkeeper, Bracigliano.
Djamel Bakar missed an absolutely sitter, which would have put Nancy-Lorraine ahead before the break
Bordeaux's Henri Saivet missed the penalty that saw them lose the Coupe de la Ligue.
Nancy fans celebrate winning the Coupe de la Ligue
grrrrrrrrrrrr ****** off. knew that was going to happen. we're so **** in front of goal at the moment, gourcuff's a complete ****.
we'll have to press on and win Ligue 1 now.
shame about the loss in the cup final. With Real having the lead from the 1st leg it´ll be tough to progress in that cup as well, good luck for the 2nd leg nonetheless. Atleast the league is looking good
yeahh i know, well I've played that now you'll have to see what happened
update tommorow evening, got a football game tommorow xD
but yeah ligue 1 does look good.
thanks for following, did you get match updates okay?
Easily the worst month of the season for us, as we struggled to keep up the good form of the previous two months and exited both the cups to Nancy-Lorraine, something for which I have publicly criticised the team for, as we had a chance to show that the tournament meant something to us, and we failed to exhibit that.

Girondins Bordeaux 0:0 LOSC Lille Metropole Ligue 1, Matchday 27
Bordeaux created plenty of chances but failed to take them.
After the victory against Lyon the week previous, Girondins were expected to go all out and knock out the other title hopefuls Bordeaux but they were unable to get anything from this game.
They knocked on the door for most of the match, creating several good opportunities but were unable to turn the screw.
Without Hazard, Lille are nowhere near as good on the counter attack but they still showed why their defensive superiority has kept them in the title race this season with some cracking defending.
The draw sees Bordeaux remain 4 points clear, as amazingly Lyon drew to Grenoble Foot, the bottom side, although they still have a game in hand.
Saturday 10th March 2012
FC Metz 0:2 Girondins Bordeaux Ligue 1, Matchday 28
Vukcevic bagged his second goal for les Girondins since arriving on loan from Chelsea.
Bordeaux looked set for a stroll in the park when Simon Vukcevic scored a brilliant finish to put les Girondins ahead.
But things were made more interesting when Javi Garcia earned himself a second yellow after just 30 minutes.
You might have expected Metz to go on from there and push forward but they didn't and they were punished by Kryvtsov, the powerful Ukrainian outjumping the Metz defence to head home a Wendel corner.
Another 3 points, and it's one they needed with Lyon getting back to winning ways again.
Wednesday 14th March 2012
Real Madrid 1:0 Girondins Bordeaux UEFA Champions League 1st Knockout Round, 2nd Leg
Kaka scored his second of the tie with a close range header to send Real Madrid through.
Bordeaux were unlucky to not come away from this game with anything after they created the better opportunities, but their shyness in front of goal was punished by a more incisive Real Madrid side.
After dominating the first half an hour, Javi Garcia saw a brilliant effort saved by Cassilas and from there Real Madrdid counter-attacked and the magnificent Kaka scored his second of the tie, heading in from close range past the unfortunate Carrasso.
They still pushed forward but to no avail as Real Madrid showed their defensive solidity.
Saturday 17th March 2012
Girondins Bordeaux 1:0 Le Mans UC 72 Ligue 1, Matchday 29
Le Mans provided stern opposition today, and Bordeaux looked like they would be suffering another frustrating draw thanks to their poor showing in front of goal again today.
But they were rescued after an hour, when Kompany's cross-field pass found Tremoulinas who took a touch before hammering the ball in from 25 yards.
He has popped up at some real crucial times for les Girondins this season and it was clear from the manager's reaction that that was an absolutely crucial goal for Bordeaux. Goalscorers: Tremoulinas (55)

AS Nancy-Lorraine 1:0 Girondins Bordeaux Coupe de France, Quarter-Final
Gavanon sends Nancy-Lorraine into the final 4 of the Coupe de France.
Bordeaux were dissapointingly knocked out of the Coupe de France this afternoon, as they were stunned by their more incisive visitors.
The two sides meet again at the weekend at the Stade de France in the Coupe de la Ligue and it was a brilliant game for the home side.
Bordeaux did create the better chances, but their past profligacy haunted them again as they were punished on half time whe Benjamin Gavanon slammed home a superb through ball to set up an interesting second half.
But Bordeaux failed to show any real fight in the second half, with Chamakh and Faubert both skying brilliant chances well wide.
It was a dissapointing evening for Bordeaux but they will hope they can avenge this loss against Nancy in the Coupe de la Ligue final.
Saturday 24th March 2012
AS Nancy Lorraine 0:0 Girondins Bordeaux (4:3 on penalties) Coupe de la Ligue Final, Stade de France
AS Nancy-Lorraine supporters celebrate their cup final win.
The Stade de France was buzzing this afternoon at kick off, but they weren't in for a special game.
Gourcuff missed the first real chance of the game, heading straight at the goalkeeper as Bordeaux looked to get hold of the game.
But they were almost hit on the break when Bakar gets free but he hits his shot dissapointingly wide of Carrasso.
Sam has visited the Stade de France twice in his career and already won 2 trophies but it wasn't to be today as his side were unable to finish again, something that is becoming a hurtful trend for the Championship hopefuls.
Saivet missed two glorious opportunities as the game neared penalties.
And it was him who missed the final penalty to hand the trophy to AS Nancy-Lorraine in the most dissapointing fashion.
With both Cups now out of the frame and out of the Champions League this month, they will have to hope they can focus on the league instead from hereon in.
Bordeaux were left stunned by Montpellier today as they went down 3-0 at the Stade de la Mosson.
For those who expected this Bordeaux to show their character in this game, they were woefully dissapointed as, from the first minute onwards Bordeaux were punished for horrendous finishing.
Emil Lyng gave the hosts a brilliant start, burying home from close range after just a minute to give them a kickstart.
And after 32 minutes, Belhanda latched on to a good through ball from Reindau to pass past Carrasso.
They looked completely in control and by half time it was 3:0 as Zargo Toure picked up the ball outside the box before hitting an absolute screamer into the roof to top off a great game for the home side.
Bordeaux were shook and came out second half and dominated but again failed to take chances.
The manager left through the tunnel ten minutes before the end of the game, looking absolutely furious with his players.
With just 8 games left in the title race, Bordeaux can take solice in the fact that Lyon lost their last game, but it's a crushing blow to their hopes as they look for momentum going into the last games.
I tell you what, I was so ****** off after that last game. I was mostly dissapointed that my players could not react to getting knocked out of all the other three tournaments we were in with a good performance.
Instead they gave the worst performance I have witnessed so far in this game and I was bitterly dissapointed.
Fortunately we are still 4 points clear at the top of the league which gives us hope going into April, the penultimate month.
I haven't got a player of the month I was bitterly dissapointed with every single one of my players. I could maybe give it to Tremoulinas for his goal against Nice but that was his only contribution for the whole month.
Absolutely gutted and it makes April all the more interesting.
Ah, so unlucky in the Final. The return on the live games like in the Chelsea story always great to see . By the looks of it you had some chances but the finishing was poor, and then to lose 3-0 to Montpellier after must of been fustrating. I hate when my teams play fantastic stuff for some games and then totally collapse.
